Miata Time Lapse - Hood Louver Install - 1999 NB

  • Time Lapse install of Singular Motorsports hood louvers being installed on my 99 NB Miata. This was my first time doing something this aggressive to the car and learned a lot throughout the project. It has performed well for me for many years of track abuse, working excellent to keep theoretical engine bay pressures down to provide excellent cooling. The total system combined, and I have never ever overheated or come close.
There are a couple of sections I failed to film, so if you see anything missing in the process that is why.
These louvers are made by Singular Motorsports, a quality vendor.
Any of you who care about the the final look being perfect... I get it that you don't understand, but this isn't a show car folks. Feel free to comment about the aesthetics, but you're energy is misguided.
Disclaimer: You shouldn't do any of this. Seriously.

@@UnsponsoredBuilds thanks man. it's funny how uptight people get with the color of the rivets, like I personally chose them or something. they came with the kit, so that's what I used. if I ever remove the vents for a repaint of the hood, I'll get black rivets if it's all just the same. enjoy your NB.

Looks cool and if the headlights and other components had like a black accent it would go really well with that hood. For example a full body kit change, black fenders with silver rivets, black side mirrors with a silver trim, black spoiler with a silver trim and the base color would stay the same but with a nice end polishing. Pretty good job.

gav240z I do kind of agree they look odd on an on otherwise stock chassis. They seem to mesh much better on stock but dark (black/grey/dark blue) NBs. I've got an NB2 and have been looking at these vents for a long time but mine is silver and stock and I don't want to go nuts with it. I'm thinking lowered just a bit and a Garage Vary chin spoiler *might* fit in well with the vents.
Mainly interested because of the functionality of them though. Not sure how they tested them as far if they used a stock chassis with stock cooling system, intake, and undertray :/

I only wash my car by hand. It's a dedicated track car at this point, so driving in rain and going through a car wash isn't a concern for my personal philosophy of use. Good question. I live in the desert, so moisture and humidity is a non factor. It's also unregistered and never sees street use. So in my scenario, corrosion isn't an issue. IF I were to do a track event in the rain, I'd consider covering the vents, but I haven't looked into it much. I'm sure the manufacturer could share more details on the water resistance or lack thereof.
All of that said, if this were a daily driven car, I wouldn't put louvers on the hood due to water and security purposes.

It occurs to me that intentionally allowing my paint to get messed up with $0.20 worth of tape, differs from spending energy and time on rivets that were already included in the kit and will secure it without issue.
