Bernard was one of Jeff’s mentors, whom he loved dearly and absolutely respected. David, Garfield and friends tribute to Jeff is a fantastic work of art. I have had two copies of the original CD one was signed and one copy of the remix every single one has been stolen. I’ll eventually get it again. As this is one of my favorite productions. David Garfield always puts on a great show. He works with a number of who is who and mentors those starting in the business and in time you find that they are one of the Who’s Who’s in the business.
We all know why Bernard is as legendary as he is as a drummer. He is also one of the nicest people you'll ever meet. Just can't get enough of that guy. Loved Jeff and Joe dearly, as well. They were originally from my neck o' the woods (CT). Hope everyone has a great time at the clubhouse. Will be traveling to NYC (again!).
Porcaro was only 20 years old when he recorded Katy Lied with Steely Dan. A testament of how great the kid was on the drum kit. Gone but never forgotten. Thanks for all the music.
Cool music today..WHO doesn't know Bernard Purdie...and Jeff Porcaro...great groove..love the horn section.Thank you for this post today, greatly appreciated Leland Sklar 🙏peace ☮ ✌, stay safe be safe.
This is so good!! Mr. Bernard Purdue signed a pair of hi hats for me in Winston Salem, NC at a club called Ziggy's. His drumming along with the great Mr. Chuck Rainey's bass parts made those early Steely Dan songs MOVE!! I've loved your contributions to music for many years Mr. Sklar. Now to hear you share your adventures and thoughts on various topics is true inspiration. Thank you so much for sharing!
Agree with you lee just be kind to one another.......I have decided the phrase AGREE TO DISAGREE should be in the forefront of our minds!!!! Then move on! But continue to be nice to one another!!!!!!
I've been listening to David's Babylon Sisters on my shuffle mix since about the time of your Book signing at Village Recorders when I met David for the first time and never knew it was you on the Bass! Epic!
It doesn’t seem like it’s been 31 years since Mr Porcaro passed. I lived in Calabasas at the time and was working a lot at the time gigging and recording all over LA, Jeff lived just across the 101 from us in Hidden Hills. This still hurts. Thank you for another great video and I wasn’t aware of this tribute to Jeff I will be buying it as soon as I get off RUclips. One last thing Bernard Purdie simply Amazing ,a true legend. Kinda like yourself Mr Sklar.
Thank you, Leland, for the remembrances of a distinguished career and the mentioned of Bernard Purdie today. Where modernity will take music and recording will be hard to match the heart and soul of the past still alive in memory.
that Tribute to Jeff Porcaro album is criminally underrated! Love every track; and an amazing bunch of LA's greatest musicians on it - the modern day "Wrecking Crew"
One of my good friends had the absolute pleasure of recording Bernard Purdie, Michael Allemana and George Freeman's performance live at the Green Mill in Chicago in April of 2017 for George's then 90th birthday.
Wanted to warn those in the US to make sure their Covid vaccinations are up to date before May 11 when the Covid emergency ends. Over 65 can boost 4 months after the last shot and immune compromised 2 months after. It's hard to get clear info on what the end of the "emergency" will mean for vaccine availability/$. 1,000 people a week are still dying of Covid in the US though (CBS news last weekend).
Love how you show respect to as many involved in the production as possible, Lee. Indicative of the type of guy you are - and of why so so many artists have insisted on having you laying down your grooves (alongside a pretty decent set of playing skills 😊).
Covering Steely Dan and making it sound as cool or cooler than the original seems to be a musical impossibility, but I stand corrected. Amazing cover of a great track. That rhythm section pocket is just making everything above it float. Too good!❤😊
Copper pipes? Very expensive. I did a complete repipe of my house with Pex piping. I had that 1970's galvanized piping that started to give way. I got it before it got me.
@@SoundsFair--M-and-J I cut and pasted the info for you. Most new homes are plumbed with PEX. I disagree with the article where it said the PEX can be as expensive as copper. I had my house repiped 3,000 sq ft for $6,000.00 and it took them only 2 days. What is a PEX pipe? This is a plastic pipe type produced when polyethylene is melted under high density and extruded in tube form. Although PEX piping was made available in the US market more than four decades ago, the material gained rapid popularity in recent years. Also known as cross-linked polyethylene, PEX pipes are becoming popular as they are affordable plastic tubings that can be conveniently used as part of a water supply line installation. PEX is also similar to PVCs in many ways because like the latter, a PEX pipe can prevent corrosion or rust from mixing with your water, making it safe to use. Because they can be woven through walls, ceilings and crawl spaces, it’s not surprising that PEX plumbing has become the preferred process of many professional plumbers. They are strong enough to withstand strong water pressure and exhibit great flexibility. allowing for quick and easy installation. In terms of expenses, however, PEX materials are more costly when compared to PVCs. This can be a source of concern among homeowners who are running on a tight budget while trying to complete their water piping works. PEX vs PVC: What are the Differences? It has become apparent that PVC and PEX are two of the preferred pipes nowadays when it comes to plumbing projects. Some people even believe that switching from PVC to PEX is worth considering if only to meet current plumbing needs. Although these two plastic pipes do share several similarities, differences also exist between them. These are discussed in three distinct areas below: Longevity PEX pipes can last almost as long as copper, with its shell life running anywhere from 40 to 50 years. PVCs meanwhile, have a longer life expectancy at about 70 years for as long as they are maintained well. Accessibility PVCs are practically available in every single hardware store and are quite affordable which is one reason they remain popular among homeowners On the other hand, many PEX-based pipes can be quite expensive, with some models costing nearly as much as copper pipes. Sustainability Many of the components of a PVC pipe have recyclable parts so when its life comes to an end, some of these parts can still be put to good use. This is not exactly the case with PEX pipes. Nevertheless, PEXs are known for being flexible. Plumbers can easily adjust these pipes in terms of shape and size which is sometimes needed when there are sudden changes in piping directions. This plastic pipe model is also highly compatible when matched with other pipe types. Good examples are copper pipes which work well alongside PEXs partly because of their corrosion-resistant crosslinked polyethylene element.
Chuck Rainey play the bass in that album. Were you reading the chart, studied and make it your own before playing it, or what was the process. There are a lot of changes and moods all over that piece.
An excellent rendition, definitely worth the encore. Nobody shuffles quite like BP and the bass part is juicier than Chuck Rainey’s original part. (Maybe I’m becoming LS biased)

Yeah, it didn't end well for the course and the gopher persevered dancing to "I'm alright ".
