Lee your comments about the toy collection really touched me. For many years I would join with thousands and thousands of bikers who carried as many toys as possible through the streets of Melbourne and at the end donate everything to The Salvation Army for underprivileged children. Nothing beats a child’s smile at Christmas. Your a true treasure Lee and your bringing those smiles. Love hearing The Section again.👍👍
@ Kathryn l have heard about the one in Central Gippsland and it is supposed to be excellent. Did you host it as l have seen photos years ago? The biggest toy run that I did was estimated at over 25,000 with police escorts all the way and that was amazing. One of the best rides I did was with Make A Wish Foundation Christmas For The Kids and that was special and a bit of a tear jerker. Never seen so many bikers break down and cry but it was rewarding. Never give up making kids smile. They deserve it. 🙏🙏
@steven_scattergood yes we did. There's a Variety Big Bash, last year it started at Jindabyne and took in Southern NSW and Vic...these guys raise the money and stop off in smaller or disadvantaged towns and distribute for kids. Thankyou for doing what you did ...definitely good for the soul !
Love "The Section" and have followed the "core's" journey for some years now! You guys are and have been the musical icing on the cake for so many artist's efforts and finished productions, including your own! I've noted your mention of Tommy Bolin again in your discussion here, a fellow Sioux City, IA. native and someone I knew growing up here, attended grade school together and had local musician friends in common here before he left for Denver, CO. Brings back memories! Thanks for this submission and all you do! You continue to make the world a better place! Carry On!
Wow!! Loved listening to your, The Section, circa 1977! Fantastic! Such a very fine groove!! 🎵 Thank you, Leland! 😊 Your 'Magnetic Lady' vibes with JLP's 'Enigmatic Ocean'. . . 😎 💕 ✨️ and 'We have all been here before', DC 💕 ✨️
It's really great that go out after Christmas to buy toys at discount prices to give to kids in needs. That's wonderful Lee! ❤. Sad to hear of Richard Perry's passing. He was one of the great record producers. R.I.P. Richard Perry.
I was introduced to this by a good friend. We were big fans of the jazz rock- fusion wave...and I believe I have this on cassette. One of my all time favorites. And yes of Billy Cobham Spectrum album. And I was looking at the credits on Spectrum and said there's that name Sklar and again..fast forward here we are..small world. Thank you for the walk through memory lane. Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year to you and your family and friends..and The Backyard boys..love the short of them drinking water..love them ! Stay safe and be safe 🙏 Leland Sklar ✌️ ☮️ 🕊.
For those who tend to get a little tired of jazz fusion, luckily there's rock fusion! You should've carried on, doing a tour every few years. Including Japan. 🗾 Finally got to use that emoji... 😄
Street Pizza went really well with that story about dollies full of stuff and the post office. Got a good kick out of it by imagining dance moves with that thing. 😁 Thank you, Leland. 👍 💜
Happy Holidays to you and the family, Lee! Way to TCOB!! You're an inspiration for sure. Have a great trip to the UK and fantastic 2025!! Sorry to hear of the passing of another legend, your friend Richard. This era of music and pop culture is the best in history and it hurts seeing the people who were a part of it move on... BTW, The Section are killer!!
👍👍. A 2 1/2 meal video! Great tracks!!!!! You guys are more than deserving of being "big in Japan!" I got some planners today (26th) that I had ordered before Christmas and it was just like having a new holiday! I'm sure your book recipients will be equally delighted with a second 🎄 when the 📔📔 arrive.
Richard Perry did tremendous work. I was especially impressed with his touch on Ringo’s and Nillson’s great albums in the ‘70s. I’m so grateful to have grown up through such rich musical times. Thanks, as always, Leland, for ALL your essential contributions. And your good heart. A fan on Long Island, NY 🙂🎶
One thing (there's more than one thing) I like about The Section is that your part will not get lost in the mix. As I was thinking that thought a bass solo popped began. Cracked me up. Read about Mr. Perry and figured you'd be mentioning him. A remarkable career, for sure. Love and Thanks ❤👍❤👍
I'm listening to the first song sitting in my chair grooving... magnetic lady, definitely some fussion. My style, I love these songs Lee, I'm a musican and I can feel what's happening there. What a fun mix of bliss !
4:54 So, Cobham didn't want to use the late Rick Laird, a founding member of Mahavishnu, to play on the Spectrum album. Interesting. How does something like that occur? It must've been cool to hang with Rick and talk music. Looked up your album "Fork It Over" !(great-looking album cover) Some great stuff on that album and on a leading edge of the jazz-fusion genre. Sounded great! I liked "Magnetic Lady and Russ' drumming is workin' too! (I found the album on Discogs) The album came out kinda' around the same time a friend of mine's album came out in the jazz fusion genre: the band "Caldera" with saxman Steve Tavaglione as co-founder and the late drummer, Carlos Vega. 15:12 Wow! You played at Donte's in N. Hollywood! I used to fall by that club to check out some terrific big bands. (b.t.w., the building Donte's was in is seen in Hitchcock's movie "Psycho", it's behind the cop standing by his police car as he's watching the woman buy a different car at a car dealer). Regarding shipping your books, etc., FedEx will pick up your packages from your home (after you've opened an account with them) You just schedule a pick up time online. Saves a lot of driving time going to the post office with hundreds of pounds of stuff...ugh!
Loved hearing all of this for the 1st time! - Wow.. hearing Croz was really cool. Maybe the most progressive I've ever heard Russ play. Very enjoyable - Thanks Lee.
Sorry to hear that you've lost another friend in the music business ! A big thumbs up for your buying toys to donate to kids. Lee the whole nation knows how the postal system works or not lol...
Three of my favorite cuts from Fork it Over! (Suckers on Parade being a forth)! Danny's acoustic and electric work on Hamsters is stunningly good, and Russ's percussion work make this such a tactile cut.
What a great era! Love those early synth sounds, huge drum fills, pentatonic scales galore and even an overdubbed Bass Solo! It seemed to me that every great band had an improvisational element in those days. Very nostalgic!
This was so good. It's Boxing Day in Canada, and in British Commonwealth countries. The malls here are packed. I wish Maureen all the best. Cheers, Leland! 🙏✌️
Leland am I sensing that the Immediate Family is beginning to take a bit of a back seat, I do hope not, but we don’t seem to have heard much about it recently. (And of course my old grouse that the documentary film has still not been seen outside USA)
🤧🤧. 🎶 I got sick for Chriiistmaaas, boy that really bites. I got sick for Chriiistmasss, hope I'm well by New Year's night! 🎶 Love the toy story, but you cannot have my $20-$5coupon Yule Goat 🐐. Condolences on the loss, had heard about it on the radio. Will try to check the Wikipedia.
Was just listening to my copy of original pressing of James Taylor's Flag lp. Believe Asher produced that. I know you and Russ are pictured in the inner gatefold. Tour for that was great too. Especially when concert at Blossom Music Center was taped for s Showtime special that never aired .too bad😢
Lee... you fell for the classic interrogation technique! Everybody talks during a bass solo!!! 😜😂🤣😂🤣 That was a very cool bass solo, in all seriousness. More melodic and less concerned with chops. In other words, not overly flashy, just a very coherent musical statement.
I am 9 or 10 years younger than you but I also started playing very young and by the time I was in high school stage band I had some years under my belt. And during high school especially my senior years the Cobham / Hammer Mahavishnu was king !!!Thank You As Always!
I remember standing in the Purple Prism or Son of Sunloft record shops in Charleston, SC as a teen, scanning credits on album covers. After seeing your name and the usual suspects so often, I was hugely thrilled when I found the first Section album. The full fold-out made it even cooler. I’ve been a fan ever since. Just listened to Fork It Over again last week. It’s still fresh and exciting. Thanks for all of the great music and amazing vibes you’ve put out in the universe!
Just watching Forest Gump while listening to your music 🎶 and the Running on Empty scene came on. Turning sound on for a Moment. Didn't you play on that one? Just funny! Enjoying the Christmas Toy story. Blessings to you and Maureen.
The first guitar solo sounded in tone a lot like the Rockford Files guitar solo. Nice to hear Russ play out on that one tune rather than sit so deep in the pocket playing time, really let it rip.
Are there any live recordings by the Section? I'm sure they'd be great. I remember that the cover of the second album "Forward Motion" featured a photo that looked like it had been taken in concert. And so I thought it might have been a live recording. But alas it was not. It's a great album nonetheless. Separately, did David Lindley ever play with The Section? That would have been cool. Lastly, The Section introduced me to the music of (a young) Michael Brecker. I can't thank you enough for that!! 🙂
If you had a choice Mr Sklar , which Band from your era of 70's Rock would you have loved to have been a member of ? Considering the amount of brilliant musicians you have been associated with over the decades and still to this day , is there any group you thought ,WOW , what an ensemble ... different class . I'd be very interested to know ?

Happy holidays, Steven.
@Mark_Brooks And Happy Holidays to you also Mark.
They still do a toy run down South and Central Gippsland Steven....awesome to see them & host them.

I love that idea of taking advantage of sales this year to donate to a good cause next year.
That was quite a talent pool on these recordings!

Love the music. Thank you. Sorry for your loss.❤❤🙏
I saw The Section open for Jackson, my introduction to the amazing Mr. Sklar. It was an awesome show.
So sorry to hear of your loss of Richard Van Perry 1942-2024
🕯 🌹 please accept my Deepest Sympathies and condolences.
Sad about Richard Perry,,,,,,Too many friends gone in the last 10 years,
I had a copy of the first two Section LP ‘s. Don’t know why I didn’t pick up the third. Good stuff.

This is a remarkable (albeit short) recap of the history of The Section…🙏👍🏻
I appreciate you and thank you for making content.

Magnetic Lady sounds like a Zappa composition......That's my favorite tune you played.....I love to drum on stuff like that.
I received the book and to my sunrise it was signed.
Hi Santa! 🎅🏻

Leland. I have a question to ask you. If you are able to answer it, it would be great. Where can I purchase the Immediate Family CD from? Thanks!

What do you think of GHS balanced nickel bass guitar strings?
