Only musician that brought a tear to my eye when I heard the news. He was a great gift to humanity.
Jeff was really one of a kind, he did breathtaking things on the drums in songs.
Jeff left so early - one of the best drummer of all time with style and technique. Very kind and friendly person in his personal life. And I admire all the very very good musicians that he played and hang out. They loved him very much - they were happy each moment they were together playing or talking in his presence. Thank you David for this short video talking about Jeff.
Jeff's birthday was April 1st. Hope his heavenly birthday was wonderful. We miss him so much.
Excellent David. I also worked with Jeff back in the early 80's at Cherokee. Jeff was one the most down to earth artist I have ever worked with. I use to joke with him that he did not need a click track and the click track needed him. I was shocked at his passing. It took me sometime to get pass the grief. I'll never forget the day I walked into studio one and Jeff was playing Mozart on the grand. OMG, you play piano too!? Anyway, thanks for the flashback, Peace.

To me there are two major Tributes to artists : Freddie Mercury's and Jeff Porcaro's. David, this tribute album has raised the bar so high in terms of musicianship, chemistry and genuineness. This tribute has left and will keep on leaving a mark on every musician who's worth the name. This album saved me in some of my darkest hours. I am so thankful for this. 🙏🏻

Toto is one of my favorite band. First heard of Toto back in the '80's. I heard Africa and Rosanna on the radio. I'm not a musician nor singer but I tell when those songs come on the radio I can sing it and dance through the groove. You know, it makes you move. I never pay any attention to the musicians in the band until the early '90's. And that's when I knew about Jeff, he was a cool cat the groove and feel. Because if the song's got no groove or feel, what's the use listening to it, but Jeff delivered that for the fans and the world. He cares about his craft and profession in a humble way. When you hear on the radio Africa or Rosanna you know it's Jeff and Toto. So, R.I.P. Jeff. You done your duty and service to the world. Thanks Jeff 🙏🙏❤
Thank you David, there are many great drummers who have contributed to many great songs. Jeff had something unique, was always smiling and seems to have been loved by everyone. A tragic loss but remembered forever thanks to people like you sharing your archives.
Thanks for the memories. I think I can speak for many of us old farts that we are starved for something/anything video with Jeff. Finding "lost tapes" or gems such as you just posted for a few seconds are precious. More please. RIP JP, MP, and Pop P.

My introduction to Jeff was via his Star Licks instructional video…You, Jeff, and Mike Porcaro. Those tunes and grooves you guys played set me on a certain path and I’m thankful! I wore that tape out! Thank you for the music, sir!
Thank you for sharing your memories of Jeff, my musical hero. I managed to get a copy of the tribute CD on its release in the UK via a special import. Still spin it up on a regular basis. I think Mike McDonald's vocal on LST is amazing and arguably one of his all time great recordings. Of course, everyone else is amazing too but that track just stands out for me. They'll never be another Jeff. Sorely missed by the music industry and me. RIP

David, thanks, I'm far away from Van Nuys now but I have very fond memories of my years at Grant HS, hanging with the Pocaros. I graduated with Mike in 1973. Saw Jeff play with Steely Dan in Glendale for 2 nights practicing for their 1974 tour, and again at the Santa Monica Civic , their last gig of the tour. Those were some heady days. I tell people that Toto is really a High School band, the 3 Porcaros, Lukather and Paich and our friend Dana Latham engineered the first few Toto albums. I really feel blessed to have been a witness to greatness, what a time and place.
I graduated from Grant High School as well during those times. Thank you for their memories!

David thank you so much for your great work as a young man learning to play the drums I would sit and do my best to transcribe Jeff’s drum parts 40 years later I still find myself using his fills on gigs

I the CD for this great tribute to Jeff when it came out. As soon as I saw it in Tower Records, I grabbed it immediately and enjoyed it so much. Big fan of Toto and the members of that band are such great musicians that most of them would be part of great albums of other artists.
Such a beautiful tribute David…Jeff a truly brilliant and inspirational drummer, who fortunately recorded so much and left a tremendous legacy. I am always thrilled to hear your great music and the fabulous musicians you worth with, like Vinnie 🙏❤️

I still remember reading in the newspaper about Jeff's death. I couldn't believe it and read again and again, hoping the name would change, but it didn't.
After that day still songs have been published with Jeff on drums, for example "Kingdom of Desire" by Toto and "Heal the World" by Michael Jackson, which was the last international top-hit wirh Jeff. Whenever it was played on the radio, it felt like a kind of funeral to me, enjoying his unbelievable feel and knowing, he was no longer with us. ❤💐
I wish, I could have been at The Baked Potato only once, because the record is one of my favorites. Would be great, if you could publish some more recordings.

WAY cool, this post. I STILL have the original Los Lobotomys CD, that I purchased in 1990. Still listen to it, almost daily. Thanks for this clip ( and yes, I STILL have the original CD release of " Tribute To Jeff " too! ).

My first itroduction to Jeff was on the Sonny and Cher show....I then many years later heard Boz Scaggs Low Down and his name came up again....then I heard Steely Dan....moving forward to 1978 I heard Hold the Line and it was its him again...by this time I had love affection for drums and really started to pay attention to the Real Players....fast forwsrd Jeff was playing with everyone and in so many different styles....then I started to see instructional video like Star licks and others...He was always that guy ...I was always impressed and awed by how versatile he was...by this time I was playing drums myself and trying to be as versatile in different styles as my drum hero..then while in a want to be
band I was researching who played on this EWF song after they had reformed after EWF hiatus.....it was Jeff to no surprise
He was just an awesome individual and drummer who always inspired so many.....
Thanks for this, David, and especially for the Tribute to Jeff recording. I've had that CD since its introduction, just about wore it out (!) and it's still one of my "go to" recordings. I'm a drummer who's been around for a lot of years and was heavily influenced by Jeff's playing many years ago.
Me too, except i don't have that cd. Need to buy that.

David, Thank You !!! Jeff is a huge influence on me being a drummer. The first time I became aware of you was on the "Jeff Porcaro Drum Instructional Video " son Creatchy Stomp, a cool tune with Mike on base.
I do no know who you have used for you productions of the "Jazz Outside The Box" and others but it is excellent !! Heck you even got Joe Porcaro to play on Roxanne, to which he kicks ass along with every one else.

I'm a huge fan of Jeff Porcaro and I love everything he did. That's why I came across your work, Mr. David. Coincidentally I was revisiting your work "Giving Back" just yesterday. It's so rare to see a video of Jeff playing with a band other than TOTO, there's no way Mr. provide a little more than you showed at the end of this video? Anyway, thank you very much for everything.
