    As a 61 year old man who does a lot of road riding to keep my cancer at bay, I will never own one of these bikes nor will I ever do this type of riding. Before watching this video, I wasn't even aware of this maker. Having said that, I absolutely loved this video as David works his usual magic of honest evaluation in a very open and personable manner which for me is "real world" and bullshit free. The filming of the ride was very good and I had the feeling of being there. Great work once again : lovin' it !!!

    Looks good but like you for local trails (I’m down the road from you in Dursley) the tyres would be a swap straight away. It’ll be interesting to see how you get on with a shorter stem/wider bar combo. I think I’d also want to ditch the grip shift lockout and fit normal grips

    It’s tough to find space for a remote that looks good and lets the rider maintain full control. Enter TwistLoc™. Twist to lock, push the button to unlock - on forks, rear shocksm, or both in tandem. With a consistent grip size and light-touch action, TwistLoc maximizes efficiency while keeping your hand safely on the bar.

    • @davidarthur

      I'd imagine you could replace it with the Fox Suspension Remote CTD Single Cable Lever

    • @louispastore7301
      @louispastore7301 3 года назад +1

      There also seems to be a very cheap lever option available and easily found on Amazon that other Izzo owners have given positive reviews of. I for one, sent the shock back to Fox and had them convert it to a standard 3pos unit, cost me $260 with shipping and I lost all the weight of the cable and housing + the clumsy and heavy twist loc piece itself. In my opinion this bike doesn't need a lock-out and performs better with the 3pos Float DPS. I also extended the fork to 140, went to 180 rotors front and rear, put on a 800mm OneUp bar that I trimmed to 780, a RF Turbine R 40mm stem, installed a AB 32t oval ring and a 10-52 stack in the rear. Finally, a set of Schwalbe Nic 2.35 skinwall tires. The bike sits at exactly 27.8lbs with pedals in the XL size......Best bike I've ever owned.... or ridden.

  • @Barkything
    @Barkything 4 года назад

    looking at the rear travel, front rotor size and no lighter 34 stepcast 120, I would never call this a downcountry bike only because of the lock out. I would rather call this a mid travel trail bike. Parts seems already a bit outdated for a new bike. The fork and drivetrain are both updated for 2021. Hopefully they do mount the most recent DT 1200's wheels.

    • @davidarthur
      @davidarthur  4 года назад +1

      Fair comment. I think the parts reflect the fact this bike was launched earlier this year before those Fox/SRAM upgrades were announced. Not sure if they are actually available yet?

  • @epictraildude
    @epictraildude 4 года назад +1

    Yeah, the TwistLock configuration is really counterintuitive, not to say completely wrong. The remote shows the 'locked' symbol when the shock os open and 'unlocked' when locked. It must be so because the shock is mounted upside down. That is a big usability disappointment because it can become dangerous when you push the lock button during a gnarly descent. YT should have delivered a shock configuration which takes that into account. I have written to them but have not received any answer yet. Its the biggest disappointment on my brand new Izzo Pro Race. Other owners have had issues when the schock suddendly locked out on descents without pushing the button. They have got no answer from YT either. I wonder why no one talks about this issue in their review videos. The after-sales support from YT seems disapointing, too.

    • @epictraildude
      @epictraildude 4 года назад

      @JF Oh, that sounds great! Do you have any official source? And also, do you know if existing Izzo customers are getting a replacement? I have found more issues on my Izzo Pro Race (badly mounted rear brake cable which I have to let shorten and bleed, loose blue lockout lever on the fork, carbon handlebar with aesthetic errors...) I have the Izzo since 1,5 weeks and haven't ridden it yet because I got no response from YT Germany....

    • @davidarthur
      @davidarthur  4 года назад

      Nothing wrong with short travel, when done well it makes for a very capable bike. It's just short travel in relation to downhill and enduro bikes which have more travel, and a categorisation that is meant to help people better understand where the bike is pitched. I'd love to see the industry move away from labelling bikes by travel as there's so much more important things like geometry and parts that determine how a bike rides

      I own the bike as well and wasn’t trying to be an a**. Every Izzo forum has the same questions about how it does/doesn’t work. Go watch the actual twistloc video. Twisting is the same as pushing a lever - it pulls the cable towards the grip. For the float factory, this closes the DPS making for a firmer suspension. Pressing the button returns the shock back to the open position.
      Again, only trying to help. Twistlocs are expensive and people should know how to use them before replacing.

      Thanks a lot for posting this David. I had ordered the pro race since it's available in two weeks but on Southeastern Pennsylvania here in the US we don't have any long downhills. There are long twisting ups and downs to maximize the elevation changes combined with a lot of short technical climbs. At two of the rowdier places you have a rock garden or roots where you have to slow an xc bike down but not much. I sadly canceled my order because I rode the fuel ex 9.9 locally and it feels so slow and unresponsive compared to XC bikes but I can't help wonder if this is a speedier feeling. Either way I think xc is better for first bike and maybe something like an Izzo down the road for when I want more downhill or to plow through the rough stuff. Thanks again for posting this review, super helpful.
