A new NINTENDO 64 that does what??

- It’s the moment I’ve been waiting for. A brand new MODERN Nintendo 64 that plays my entire game cartridge collection. On my 4k television. Instead of console emulation the Analogue 3D is focused on TELEVISION emulation. The emulation of the warm glow of a CRT television to be exact. Let’s take a good look at this crazy cool concept.
Preorders are now open for the Analogue 3D via analogues web site.

"Analogue 3D does not play copyrighted ROM files."
Until the "totally unofficial" patch comes out shortly after launch.
Or, you know, an Everdrive cart doing the emulating.
@@autobotstarscream765was just going to comment this myself. If this plays everything an original N64 can, then it's able to run an everdrive. Also, someone will suss out how to get SD cards or other media, running on this, even if it includes adding a secondary SD card slot or other media input connector.
Don't ever discount a dedicated console modders/hackers, be they individuals or groups, ability to hack and mod the "unhackable and unmodable" because they will see that as a challenge and not a fact. And usually, a challenge that they beat or bypass very quickly.
@@JacknVictor it will absolutely have the cores unlocked eventually just may be a few months
@@Lallander this is such a dumb statement on analogue’s part because they know that all games in a cart are a rom by their very nature. You are running a copy written rom every time u boot a n64 game you are just doing it in the way Nintendo intended, on their hardware. So then you are back to the grey area again that technically this is a machine pretending to be their hardware. Legally, it is your cart you can play it however u want, but it feels weird for analogue to try and take a moral high ground about it.

It's kool to know that there will be a new N64. That console helped to define the gaming world
@goldieswitzerlox why should I thank for this I saved my money and bought it myself. My mother never buy me none of my console
There will definitely be a 'jailbreak' firmware that lets you play ROMs off the SD card.
why do you think they installed it on there?
It will probably be awhile before it's out there though. Both the Pocket and Duo jailbreaks came out a few months after the consoles.
thats a given, but will it let you play other cores? it Would be cool to have SNES or even PSX/SATURN in native 4k

I'm fairly certain F-Zero is upstairs chilling in my N64, too.

Best video I have seen on this product. I can't wait for my preorder to arrive. Fingers crossed is won't be delayed but I think it will be.
The N64's Rambus memory being shared between GPU and CPU was the N64's primary issue with framerate. Rambus in itself was terrible but hopefully they fixed the whole gpu and cpu share problem.
agreed. it wasn't all good
They don't fix anything this is for an close to original experience. Rambus was the at the time high performance option. It did not win out on the PC end only because it is also way more expensive than competing alternatives.
Hi Topher A. I work with the company, and We want to send you a test unit. I already asked and What my boss asked is if you could make another review of Our Analogue pocket, even a 5 minute video would be valuable to us. We have already had people reference your channel so If you can put together a good Vid, we would love to work together. In return, we will send you a free test unit
That's awesome of you all. Wow. Very nice.
You want to send me a test unit ill review it for truth
23:52 makes me think of 80's TV repair, just cannibalize an intact tube and kit a new board, 3d print a woodgrain case. That's dope, man
My n64 still works. I need a CRT TV.
Ok
At least when it comes to quality Analogue never disappoints.
This is going to be awesome.
I’m really looking forward to it
Even though they say it doesn't play rom files, theoretically speaking, it should play anything that a traditional N64 can play. If someone were to buy one of those rom cartridges from AliExpress that contains full library of N64 games, it should work just fine in the Analogue 3D given that it works on a regular N64. The only way this wouldn't be possible is if they really went out of their way to lock it out of compatibility. Don't know why they'd ever shoot themselves in the foot that way though, unless they simply enjoy pissing people off.
@@TheSixthSLoT I think they meant to say no emulation like hardware emulation
As in it won’t be emulating like PJ64 (I think that’s what the emulator is called) not actually referring to ROMs more of a “won’t emulate software”
They made that claim before with the Super NT, Mega SG and Duo. Rom Cartridges work just fine for all of their products. In addition to that there is a good chance that you will be able to even put Roms on the SD Card of the 3D to load up Rom files directly. At some point in time every Analogue Console got a special firmware that made that possible.
You still might want to use a summer cart 64 or Everdrive X 7 because they can play 64 DD Roms without the DD. Just don't buy that cheap knockoffs from Ali.
It doesn't play rom files by design primarily to avoid legal issues with Nintendo. A cartridge filled with roms that also plays on a original N64 is technically speaking still a cartridge.
Yeah I'm pretty sure my Everdrive is gonna work just fine on this thing
Man, I LOVE your tattoo sleeve! 💚
Love your videos as well. Thanks for the knowledge and great content.
Stay blessed, brother.
Pre-ordered mine. SNES Analogue is fantastic. I’d have done the NES but mine is RGB modded with a RetroTink.
Same here. Just wish this company would keep up with demand. They never seem to manufacture enough to overcome the scalpers, resulting in obscene prices when the cease manufacturing. The Super NT from Analogue now goes for over $600 used, $800 new. It's a shame that they make some of the absolute best retro consoles in existence, yet their weird business practices (never making enough product, releasing their consoles are weird times, ridiculous shipping prices, etc.) are a huge pain.
makes me happy that i still have a 50" crt tv
Holy crap, I bet it weighs a ton! Mitsubishi?
I have a 32” CRT. I love playing my retro games on it.
😂 gotta be 300 - 500 lbs!! I got a 32" Trinitron and 27" Toshiba, nothing beats the CRT's for retro! Gonna be playing tonight after work 👍
Never heard of that before.
I know the page said it will not run ROM games from the console, but I assure you the Everdrive cartridges will work, also I'm 100% sure the N64 switch online controllers will work since this analogue console has the Bluetooth inside, you should read the FAQ question from the analogue 3D as well, their very informative.
There's really no way around that if it's going to read authentic N64 carts. And, what people use that for is outside of their control or concern anyways.
Dude, I love your setup. That room just sends me back in time. One quick question I had was what the music you used for this video? It sounds so familiar, but I can't put a name to it. I'd love to know! I purchased two of these Analogue 3D's for my brothers and I cannot wait!
"Built in Expansion Pak"
lmao, i can't wait for this to release, and some person complains about their copy of Space Station Silicon Valley crashing.
I'd say that it has an option to change it to a jumper pak for any games that have issues, or a patch.
only thing that sucks is unless you have an OG controller you cant use the expansion slot in pokemon stadium and play pokemon on the big screen....
I still have my N64 and controller. I'm so tempted by this

Been playing my RGB modded n64 with a RetroTink4k. It is VERY VERY close to my crt.
I really hope video demos of this thing become available. Even with the solid quality reputation they've built, it's hard waiting to see what all the money went to until next year
I pre-ordered the day they opened up. I've never owned anything analogue before and I don't wanna miss out on this one
This is dope, glad to know if my n64 or gameboy SP ever stop working that the future holds replacements and improved replacements at that.
N64 was always my favorite console with allt of my favorite games. The only thing that would make this new N64 even more awesome is if there was another cartridge spot to plug gameboy games in and play them on your TV!
For anyone wanting the authentic controller shape but not wanting to pay for OEM controller in good condition, I highly recommend the Hyperkin Captain- They're reasonably affordable and are basically 1:1 in form factor aside from a greatly improved thumbstick (which is good. Trust me on this you don't want the OEM thumbstick if you like your thumbs).
Also very durable, I have a few I bought for a halloween party about three years ago and they're still as good as they were out of the box. Underrated modern option imho.
This is the nostalgia years!
I’m excited to see what they do after this! GameCube and Wii were built on the same archetype, the DS and 3DS both share similar archetypes as well. I hope that they pursue the Diaz family next, and then it will be interesting to see how the disc based consoleswould work.
FPGA's stop at 5th gen. There is no reason to use them right now or any time soon over emulation because of the architecture of 6th gen and above. We still can't even FPGA the dreamcast yet.
I hate disc games. I wish we could go back to carts. The discs won’t last 40 years like carts did. I’m still playing games from the 80’s. It’s amazing.
Gamecube and Wii are similar they are distinct. There are jokes about the Wii being 2 NGCs taped together but that is not entirely true. I am also not sure what you mean by archetype. These consoles are about the same in the same way a PS4 and a PS5 are about the same.
@@xMaGuSx888 Can't at a reasonable price.
@@AxiomofDiscord The Wii plays gamecube without emulation, someone should work focus making a wii FPGA and the Gamecube would practically be done. Same for Wii U to Wii.
Now we only need a Nintendo64 Cartridge with all the NES games in it and all SNES games built inside the cartridge so we can play it on this console in 4K..
Or you know, just buy a MiSTer for 99 bucks, perfect N64 (better than perfect as it has an auto 60 FPS patcher mode in the Turbo N64 core, the best way to play N64 games with bare-metal hardware) also with the terrible AA filter removed in native 480p, NES, SNES, SMD, SMS, GBA, Amiga, DOS, macOS, hundreds of 1:1 parity arcade cores, all with accurate audio, video timings and pixel perfect RGB.
@@Wobble2007 You're not getting 4K tho out of a mister in order to do that you'd need a Morph 4K or a Retrotink 4K
An Everdrive cartridge, they work on an original N64 for playing backup roms of your legally owned games from an SD/tf card. (or illegal backups if that's your thing) so I don't see why they won't work on this machine too. I suppose we will just have to wait until someone tests it out.
@@HollowRick You realize the Analogue N64 is just using integer scaling, right? Just like the MiSTer can do via .ini up to 4K, or it may well be line multiplying, which is better and the MiSTer is limited to 576p via that scaling method, but either way the Analogue isn't rendering N64 internally @ 4K.
@@JacknVictor If og carts work, so will Everdrives.
This damn video better be good. I came over here from Mr. Nightmares channel so
A revolution in scanline filter technology 🤯
This thing better support and Mclassic, because I do like my Nintendo games with anti-aliasing
Can still be preordered right now :)
A demo of this system's gameplay would have been nice.
I always figured someone could get a cheap and easy foux CRT look by stamping the color brick pattern as a filter over the image.
If they reproduce a PS 1 or 2 then I would be super excited 😅...
I would be most excited to see ps2, but all the people i've seen in the fpga community talking about it say that ps2 is several years away at best. Here's hoping they're wrong..
Apparently ps1 has a solid fpga core made for it already, with MiSTer footage of them up on youtube.
We are at a point where CRT filters / techniques can actually come with our modern displays. All OLED and QLED run of software now. Now, one can tell me that TV manufacturers can't add a retro mode apart from the game mode we already have.
As long as it lives up to what they say then it'll be awesome.
already orderd mine! cant wait!
I want a N64 official mini come on Nintendo it's over due. Maybe All interested need to sign a petition for Nintendo to see a huge audience wanting it.
wonder where they found a stockpile of RDRAM lol ;) this looks pretty cool.
Any ways.
Nintendo is coming out with a new 64 in 25'
very informative
I got the white one…. I just upgraded my green n64 controller with 8bitdos mod kit. I cleaned the controller also before hand. It rules.
Emulation is preservation.
I can see myself buying these
I hope we can transfer old saves from a controller pack to the console! Or from a cartridge to the console! Frustrating when the only way to play a classic is to start the game over. I want all my progress and levels opened up!
Will it be able to be used with an Everdrive? Which is a cartridge that you can insert a micro sd card in to store all your n64 games on and play them
The Analogue Duo, Pocket and even their older Analogue NT have issues with Everdrives, so it's not guaranteed. Hopefully this one won't have issues though.
@@grimmbilly9263 nah the pocket had a fix for GB X7 come out Nov 2022... Even if the everdrive-64 doesnt work at first it will eventually...
yeah it should, and even if there's bugs at launch they usually patch them to fix it
@butterccm thank you so much I greatly appreciate the info 😀
I'd love to see them do a gamecube
A mister FPGA can do everything up to a Saturn right now. Gamecube and Dreamcast are just out of reach. Maybe in the future.
@@Mong00se22 WAY in the future, like 10+ years minimum. There is no reason to do GC or any 6th gen systems with hardware emulation due to how they are built. Software emulators are the much better option and will be for the next decade.
You also can still buy a gamecube with an HDMI adapter, and even install an SD card reader, all for under $150.

I hope it’s good but the fact they are talking about what it can do and not showing anything makes me skeptical.
I'm surprised this guy doesn't get sued by Nintendo for that sleeve 😂
is there a possibility that the pocket analogue will be able to connect to it for games like pokemon stadium or mario tennis? or will I need the gameboy adapter for the OG n64 controller?
Curious that Analogue only showed off the Analogue 3D after the MisterFPGA project had made an N64 core...
Interesting how prices don't change much. When the N64 was first released it was set to be sold at $250, but Nintendo lowered this price to $199 due to competitive markets with Sony and Sega who also dropped the price to make more competition.
I bought one second week it was out for $199.99 USD.
Man, I love your tattoo!
Also I'm excited about the new console. N64 is my all time favourite console. :')
I can't wait for my 2 white console to arrive 😂
Look I have a analogue pocket that I love and use all the time but we need to stop pretending that their is no emulation. It is hardware based emulation but it is still emulation. They are not reproducing original chips, they are programming an adaptive chip to act like one and you are still using cores to communicate and regulate that chip. There is a bunch of benefits to this approach but there are also a lot of downside to this approach compared to software emulation. But we need to call a spade a spade and stop pretending like fpga is not emulation.
It's really nice to see people finally starting to catch on and push back on this. A lot of us have been saying this for a while, and the education just hadn't caught up. People are finally understanding FPGA's aren't magic, they still have their issues and they are still a form of emulation, but with hardware. They are also only as good as the programming of the core. It's nice to see so many people in the comments spreading the word, so we can discuss the tech honestly and stop falling for disingenuous Analogue Marketing.
@@xMaGuSx888Then go ahead and buy the other products on the market. Nothing is stopping you from doing so. We are excited about the release, emulation or not. Go ahead and buy what the competitors are making.
Im happy with emulation on my pc
The hardware emulation is so good the hardware doesn't even know it's being emulated. That's the key takeaway because software emulation has a lot of problems. People just don't care about the problems because they only intend on playing like one game from their childhood and that's it.
@@craigshaffer4023 no one said don't buy one over the other in this post. it is about analogue spreading misinformation to sell people on a product that "might" have good support or might not. the tech is only as good as the software backing it up. FPGA does not magically make a system good or bad. And as a past customer who does over all enjoy my product it is still miles away from perfect or authentic feeling. It took analogue a really really long time after release of the analogue pocket to even get the from cart experience down pat, let alone the open fpga side. they try to sell their system as new from box nintendo products when they are not. they are using open source cores and hardware from the mister project to build emulators just like anbernic or Aya neo, just with a different approach. Yes, when the cores are made right there is a very authentic feel to games on their hardware, but it is not always 100% depending on where the core project is, and a lot of times you can actually get better performance from software emulation for simple fact of their being a bigger pool of devs and lower barrier to entry. you can also build a lot more functions into software emulation than u can FPGA like save slates, speed hacks, frame skips, net play, tool support for speed runs, graphics packs, multiplayer hack over ahok networks, and many others. One is not better than the other, but other can be better than the other in certain situations and for certain people.
I just wanna play goldeneye and Diddy kong racing again lol
In game stills or eff off. Analog needs to come to the table with some examples. In theory this will be great though.
I loved the 64.
I wonder if it will allow fan made ports like the Pokémon N64 cartridges. Like if it allows that, that'll be cool for like say other cartridges that were made after the fact of them becoming scarce might or might not run like they would on original consoles. So until someone tries those reprints on that new Analogue 3D, we'll then know if those can or can't be played, with that clause if it can't play those special copyright files. So for now it's all guessing until people have it and try out it's limitations for real.
Seems like strict compliance to original spec would *ensure* an EverDrive with ROMs would work.
I would hope that after almost 30 years a video game player would be cheaper.
So it doesn't have rewind or save states to help me beat games I normally couldn't?
Nope
This dudes ink on his arm man.... 😁
I rather have a handheld that plays N64 carts that can hoot up to a TV over a console when I still have my N64.
n64 is my fav console. it 4players!
Any chance for a workaround with the fpga/emulation issue?
Probably
New N64? Watched the video and preordered!
I'm kinda surprised that there is enough of market for a company make these. I can tell you that the number of N64 game carts that I have is zero. The only 'retro' collection I have is few PS3 game I got dirt cheap at a garage sale, and I can't really play them because Ive been so spoiled by having a gaming PC hooked up to a 4ktv.
Super Nintendo is my console from childhood, and the goat imo.
During the Sony vs 64 days I was a Sony kid, and thought of the 64 as a little kids toy.
But thats cool they are making a new hardware based N64. Many great times to be had playing 007, Mario cart, and Mario party with 100% accuracy, and support for modern displays
I know a ton of people who still play retro games and collect them I have everything from atari to ps5 and everything in between
The only reason this might be profitable is that it comes with upscaling. But N64s aren't that hard to come by or particularly expensive. I bought mine for a little under $120 including tax and shipping.
Unofficial firmware patches letting you load games from SD certainly helps.
Still watching, but this hype for N64’s multiplayer heritage. Any possibility with built in WiFi, it’s custom 3DOS that it may facilitate online multiplayer using our OG carts? Basically I’ll be able to slap my f zero cart in and play others online not just couch co-op?
Not on a an OG cart. F-zero would need a software patch. So technically possible on like a everdrive, or a jail brake.
I hope I can get one before Nintendo's cease and desist letter gets to them.
You can use any Bluetooth controller
I'd love to see someone also create the 64DD for the North American market.
I'm guessing for those that wish to play backups of their legally obtained ROM files, they could use an everdrive cartridge, as the console should run an everdrive cartridge much like the original N64 does.
I just have to ask: What is the music in the background of this video? I absolutely love it! But Siri has no idea what it is haha.
Preorders are out of stock right now.
N64 is the Atari of 3D games
If Nintendo was smart they would build the most native emulator they possible could . Them some hardware that you could plug every Nintendo cartridge into and rip your own library ! built in ai upscaling and upgrades to make the games look amazing . Yeah alot of piracy but you are keeping them in the ecosystem of buying physical copies and playing old games. You publish with Nintendo the game will live forever !
they need to do fun clear colors not just black and white for this
don't wear a red shirt on a red chair, look like Quasimodo. Awesome video and awesome news though. I reckon I was in the top 100 of Golden Eye back in the day. 6 hours a day for 2 years straight in 4 player, stack, one hit kills pistols
A website link would be amazing
my question is how do we port over the games we have on our current expansion pack on the onto the analogue system because i have certain games in not in the mood to start all over again
Retrotink 4k does a pretty good job at mimicking a CRT on an Oled. But it's very expensive, and not for everyone. I would like my N64 to look nice and crisp. Even in a CRT, the n64 looks like hot earwax smeared on the TV screen lol. So I hope there's an option to get it nice and crisp, and not just look like a N64 on a CRT. If that's what you're going for, then that's cool. But I want those pixels sharp, not in a dire need for some sort of anti aisling. It seems like there's for someone for everyone in this thing. I highly doubt it'll be 64DD compatible.
We hear about this console, but not one video example of how the games look.
Sorry if I missed it but does the Analogue 3D also support the 64DD attachment or is the core built in?
I just want analogue pocket sooooo bad.....I've got a mega man zero craving so bad...I don't know 🤩🤩🤩
You can emulate on it if you have an ever drive
I'd love for them to do a PS1, but I could see them releasing 4K versions of their older consoles first.
I would love Analogue to do a GameCube console as that console never been a virtual console on any Nintendo console.
I'd also love a ps1 FPGA system that can play my library at 4K with accurate CRT shaders
Bad Fur Day Is Elite 🤦🏾♂️😭❤️🔥😎🔥😮💨💛👑✨
I'm curious as to the performance this will bring. Will we get no slowdown on 3-4 player GoldenEye? I seem to remember that it's locked at 15 frames for 3 to 4 player mode, but often times it suffered slow down on original hardware. I'm all for 4K, but 4K at 10 frames is still 10 frames
I would get a MISTer if you want to make it a less accurate experience. It already has such options. This may or may not have them in the future but I think out of the box it is looking to be accurate to the original experience as much as it can be.
@@AxiomofDiscord 4k most certainly isn't an "accurate" experience.
We're getting a new N64 before GTA 6

Ok, seen the price now. Ok… ok… they did well to get it that low and it feels fair and within reach of the kinds of people who would want this.
Analog says they will do the Funtasic color ways and they also might work on a Analog SEGA Saturn.
They never said any of that. I'm sure they probably will do funtastic colorways simply because of how many limited editions they did for the Pocket, but they haven't said anything about it for the 3D.
Where's it say that? "Might"? Don't get my hopes up for a Saturn.
You should thank your lucky stars you're not homeless and alone, like me. ...Cool, but there's a lot of retro stuff out there, rn. This could be it for physical N64. I'm waiting for the day when we get super AI. I have so many ideas. I can just take one of the phones I find on the side of a Hwy, and play Quake II... Except, I'll have AI combine the different versions into one. I'll have AI make the graphics better... Add some stuff like ATV's and gliders/hovercraft. I'm hoping I can sale some stuff, and have the $ for a wireless controller sometime soon.
Hardware only has a 20 year patent, software has a 75 year patent
Software patent is 20 years in most cases. Are you thinking software copyright? That is lifespan of author plus 70 years.
@AxiomofDiscord idea copyright is 70 years, yes, like Mickey mouse idea, just become public domain.
@@thedeadbatterydepotNow you just talking silliness the original Mickey Mouse of Steamboat Willie is public domain because Steamboat Willie's copyright has expired. Later revisions are not public domain. This is firmly copyright and has nothing to do with patent law.
Also copyright again is life of author plus 70 years but has been set to a maximum of 95 years so corporations can't abuse this being as a corporation can live potentially forever.
