Jenna, I just love your teaching about the ocean and waves. I just got your book it is amazing! I have all your books, so informative. Thank you for this tutorial !😊
Hullo Jenna, I do wish this was in your book! I appreciate you putting these videos out, so those of us who got the book can paint the cover too! I was a bit sad that you did not use all watercolor techniques, perhaps that is why it is not in the book? I know so many artists today have no trouble using gouache to brighten their watercolor paintings or bring in highlights. I was taught to plan out my paintings to preserve my whites, even if I had to use a friskit or a masking fluid. I honestly still have trouble doing it too. I keep hearing my Gran in my inner ear (What do you think your doing?) She was very old school and I guess I still work this way on most occasions. I did a lot of gouache work after I left college and that was just how copy was made. It all ended up in the trash at the end of the project. I believe this is another reason why gouache has had a more difficult time becoming fine art. SO many paints were not made to be permanent. I think you still must be cautious if your planning on selling paintings using gouache, make sure those pigments are not fugitive! Thanks Jenna for giving this cover art its due and showing it off for everyone!
Do you prefer to use the white gouache instead of masking out the area? Myself i have used both , prefer gouache but nothing is as white as the paper seems like. Thanks for the tips 😊

gouache can really complete these kinds of paintings, but it sure is scary to add 😂
I thought that I had just wasted my good paper after I did the waves but in the end it looks okay!

Hoping for some help. 🥺
