    I’ve had 2 members of my family take their own lives. It is nothing to be glamorized . The pain they must have been going through in silence they suffered. We must not let mental illness be stigmatized any longer. Enough is enough!

      My sister who doesn’t live in the same state as me has stigma against me because of my mental health; Major Depression, Anxiety and Borderline Personality Disorder. She said she loves me from a far? I’m not normal? And she doesn’t owe me anything? I don’t know how she can be so cruel, selfish and mean? It’s all bs and abuse. I said it’s unwarranted and I don’t deserve that. Nothing I say matters to her. She’ll never change and she’s missing out on being my sister and close to me and having a good relationship with me her sister. She judges me, belittles and insults me and I don’t have the energy and just want peace and not waste my time on her. Myself, my husband and our 3 cats are my priorities, not her.

    This short was written very well. The boy who appeared to have everything was missing the most important thing and that was someone who cared. His parents ignored all the signs, even when they were staring them right in the face.
    I just wish they hadn't written in the part about his brother. There is still a misconception today that people need a reason to be depressed. The reality is that it can happen to anyone

      @pme8370 4 года назад +15

      Yes, and people think it was David who was selfish for killing himself when it was his parents who were selfish for forcing him to be the second attempt at their expectations for their first child. And manipulating him into believing he killed the first child is disgusting. David’s parents were extremely manipulative and resolutely oblivious to him. Often when a teen attempts or dies by suicide, there are a lot of selfish or inattentive adults in the picture. Even when the adults are paying attention and doing their best, the teen is sick. Sometimes mental illness cannot be understood or managed. This process is complicated and ongoing. And yes, I AM a licensed mental health professional.

    One of the reasons why I prefer looking at stuff from the early 2000s and before is that the producers weren't so afraid of offending people for silly reasons, like the mother (a female) being clueless (which ironically people see today as sexist although they do that to men all the time). Therefore they not only had much more creative freedom, but more often the best writers/producers were chosen without their "morality" being taken into account.

    The lady who played Lee Montgomery's mother in this was the real-life mother of actress Samantha Mathis. This is such a sad story. It reminds us to pay attention to the warning signs that someone is contemplating suicide. This tragedy could have been prevented. David's parents should not have wanted David to do everything they wanted his deceased brother to do. His girlfriend wasn't very understanding, either. Sadly, no one really got that he needed someone to talk to. If they had gotten it, the tragedy could have been prevented.

    "the boy with everything to live for."
    That line right there just goes to show that people just don't understand depression. You can have everything in the world to live for, the perfect home the perfect life, as much money as you want, but that does not fix physiological issues in your brain. A chemical imbalance doesn't care how much money you have or how happy you should be. You can have every reason to be happy, but if you are lacking in vital chemicals and necessary hormones, the depression will come, and it will take hold, no matter how great your life is. It's not a choice, and you can't choose not to have it. You can't just snap out of it, and you can't just decide to be happy. You have to get medication that fixes the chemical imbalance or nothing is enough to make you happy. And, depression isn't always the result of an upsetting event or circumstances. It can come out of nowhere, for no reason, if your brain and it's chemicals aren't functioning properly. If you're loved one is dealing with this and can't help themselves, then you need to force them to get help. My family cared enough to force me, and it probably saved my life. Be that person for your loved one.

    I've actually been working on a story that deals with the topic of teenage suicide for a few years. The story is told from a Christian perspective. It is about a Christian family that becomes dysfunctional when their parents begin to neglect their eighteen-year-old son and eleven-year-old daughter. The teenager dotes on his younger sister and assumes many of the parental responsibilities, but he is dealing with personal problems. After he and his manipulative girlfriend break up, his academic performance and his performance on his school's track team begin to suffer. This angers his parents, because he is on his way to going to Princeton on a track scholarship. The young man is praying every night that Jesus Christ will take his soul while he sleeps, but when this doesn't happen, he decides that he wants to take matters into his own hands by killing himself! With the help of the love of Jesus Christ and the love of his little sister, however, he decides he wants to live.

If you know someone who is suicidal and tells you not to tell or Lose a friend, tell anyway, call suicide prevention hotline, call the police. Tell your friend's parents. People who have never suffered depression just don't get it. It's not something you can just snap out of, or choose not to have. The worst thing you can do to someone with depression is to tell them to snap out of it or tell them they have no reason to be depressed.. That's not the way it works. It's a chemical imbalance, and your life could be absolutely perfect and it will not fix physiological problems. Back when I was in the throes of depression my mother used to say that my kids should be enough to make me happy, and not only did that not help, it added on a layer of guilt on top of it. It's not a choice, it's a disease, and it's not something that you can choose not to have. Just as you can't choose not to have cancer. It's a physiological condition in your brain for which you have no control over. Depression can come out of nowhere, for no reason. It doesn't always have to be brought on by some traumatic event or bad circumstance. I had everything I needed in my life to make me happy, I have no past trauma, but it hit me like a train out of nowhere. If you know where love someone who is dealing with depression, educate yourself. Talk to a professional or even just do a Google search on how to handle someone with depression. Because you can make things a thousand times worse with just your words, or lack of understanding. I am better now, thanks to having family who cared about me enough to force me to go get help. Sometimes that's what it takes. Be that person for your loved one. I recognized the symptoms in my son and I made him go to the doctor, and he is so much better now. Again, this is not a choice or something that we can just decide not to have. It's not a bid for attention, and it is very real.

    OD'd on ibuprofen? 🤔
    You're either mistaken, or perhaps you weren't given the correct details, because you can't overdose on ibuprofen and die. It can make you extremely sick, and can lead to liver and kidney function issues that could end up being a contributing factor in death months or years down the road, but it's just not possible to take too much ibuprofen and immediately expire. I'm a deputy coroner, and former doctor of EM, and that just is not possible. If you do indeed have a friend who took their own life, I'm sorry for your loss.

    When people are having mental pain it’s disregarded bc it can’t be seen or touched, it’s not tangible so those who have not experienced long term ongoing chronic mental pain and trauma the suffering becomes that of a terminal illness that can’t be cured with meds therapy love or anything else it’s literally terminal and when someone endures such conditions long term and they don’t take their life they often live a very long slow excruciating painful death riddled with true tangible illness such as cancer heart disease and a host of other deadly chronic diseases due to the environmental factor of long term undue extreme mental duress and I do mean extreme, as much as I disagree with people who disagree with suicide because suicide is not selfish suicide is also not an answer to short term problems or highly complex moderately extended term problems either. There are always going to be a certain percentage of people who did make that snap decision to take their life and they would have regretted it had they not done it however there is a certain percentage of people who are terminally mentally ill and they cannot live like this they can’t do it, mental illness causes physical disability, and it’s not that person’s fault does not come down to them choosing to be that way, and I firmly have to believe that the majority of people who are not compassionate to this and who do not empathize with this or sympathize with this, just can’t because they’ve never experienced it themselves or and it’s never been something that has been experienced close enough to their own home that it actually hits them a certain way. I have lost many people to suicide and I have never not once been angry at them for what they have done. I myself have absolutely considered it as an option, but I also chose not to because I wasn’t in the same type of pain or duress that some other people are but had some things not dramatically changed for me and they were things that were beyond my control. It took assistance from another person, and it took a lot of time a lot of love and a lot more patience than the majority of anyone has I mean seriously it took a saint to bring me back from the ledge having known how I felt and having known why I considered it when I considered it and having come out on the other side of choosing not to actually do it, I do not disagree with the fact that some people don’t have any other options and there is no way to find peace and for anybody to not want another person to have peace is utterly selfish and there isn’t an excuse or an explanation for that. This is also why the most series of the series people do not leave signs because they don’t want to be stopped so if you ever encounter a situation where there weren’t even any signs really to see that really solidify inside of your heart and soul that that to think or wish for them to not have chosen suicide to find peace that they now have attained they are resting in peace , is a sin on behalf of oneself because you’re wishing for them to continue to endure, ongoing suffering and pain that nobody wants to willfully do. Just know that if it was a surprise that needed to happen and there wasn’t anything that could’ve changed it or could’ve stopped they could not be helped and it wouldn’t have been right to even stop them because they deserve to find peace everybody deserves to find peace. Anytime I think that I catch myself wishing that my loved ones were still here, I immediately catch myself and I don’t get sad and I don’t cry because I remember to myself. No they can’t be here. They could not have continued to live the way that they were living. I wouldn’t want them to be here in that state and that’s the only state that they were in that’s the only state that they could be in, so if that’s the only state that they could be in, then I’m happy that they have found peace, and I’m at peace with their choice to choose to do suicide to find it.
