Which Mother is Mine? -- Afterschool Special -- 1978

- Опубликовано: 21 окт 2018
- After spending most of her life in foster homes, a young girl must deal with the shock of her natural mother returning to claim her.
I just started watching these and wished they were still realistic programming for teens like this. This was the era of not shying away from the controversial things on TV.
It's all over-sexed rich kids living the lives of 20-somethings or Disney level kids with unrealistic naivety. Nothing real anymore.
I grew with These After-school Specials...they Hit Issues That Sooooo many Of Us went thru ....😢. ie- bed-wetting, emotional Domestic Violence in my home with my Parents, and Brother....those foundational issues And Crisis Has affected Me Till NOW and Has ONLY been reaching 55yrs and NOW my 60th Year of Life That I am ABLE To Take MY My Life's JUNK And Coach-Mentor Others To A Safe Place and Away From Darkness To Their LIGHT of Championship Success❤😊🎉🎉🎉❤❤
after school specials aired for 25yrs from 1972-1997. I have no idea why they stopped but it's a shame. They are really wonderful & some of them were relatable growing up!
@@erikaashley5189 I think some of us indie filmmakers who write coming of age should try to do some like these. It won't be the same as the after school specials but they seem like they'd have an audience.
7:04 😮😮😊😮😊 pro😊😢
I'm 56 I grew up watching After School specials .Thank you so much for posting this.Much love from upstate N.Y. 🤗😙❤
I watched these movies growing up
Happy Days meets Little House on the Prairie meets the Waltons… 😂
hahahahahahahaha
My little boy was adopted at birth .beacause i was a drug addict at the time and homeless and i hope with all my heart his new parents are like those depicted in the film . I would never expect to just turn up and replace his "mum and dad " ever . They're the ones that sit up with him when he's ill at night ,provide for him and love him and fpr that I'm eternally grateful. Even though I've sorted muself out now it's far to late in the game for my son as he's 11 now . Just got to hope one day he will come and find me and want to spend some time with me .
Sometimes it's hard to know what the right thing is. But if he knows he's a adopted ,and he's almost 12 and he might not be able too process or to make a decision if he would like to get to know you, Maybe he's been thinking about you as well and curious wanting to know about you,it's important for any child to know where he comes from I think you should give him the option if you would like to see you right now.or later when he's a bit older
Depending on his adoptive parents if they have his best interest at heart they will make a informed decision If it's the right time whatever you choose to do, you will always be his bio mom and I'm sure that you made the right decision for your child at the time., Whatever happens , I hope that two of you get a chance to at least talk so you can tell him why because that matters , so much in terms of closure for every adapted child good luck❤
Do you know who is parents are or did they just take your baby away?
❤❤God bless you and hope all the best in the years to come keep strong and have Faith ❤
Her eyes are so beautiful and piercing! I always loved her on Little House on the Prairie.
Piercing is right! That's a male trait....
Her face has always reminded me of Lynda Carter, her eyes and smile.
I agree to because the eyes on this young lady is very beautiful even after she evolved into a teenager back in the late 70s for this episode called which mother is mine because I remember she had a nightmare about her alcoholic mother screaming and yelling at her while having a nightmare.
Melissa Sue was a fantastic actress and so pretty ❤❤
Marion Ross was such a versatile actress ❤❤
Bring back the after school specials for our youth today, I’m so saddened how our kids are now
The mother can't expect to just walk straight back into her life.
Why not?if she had grown up with her being an alcoholic and abused her because of that, What kind of life would the girl have? Now she’s reformed, At least as what the girl says ,she knows she had a father and where she came from.
@SanJuanitaGomez-iw9wp Thank god you aren't a judge. You would probably let every selfish sleaze ball disrupt a child's life because they are "reformed"
I don't know what kind of person gives up their kid up and expect to walk back into the child's life like the adoptive parents didn't spend time and money, they would have to reimburse me.
She didn't "just walk straight back". She started off slow with a phone call and then short visits.
@@beyourself2444 Money? Children are PEOPLE, not property!
Seeing these afterschool specials brings me back to my growing up years. I couldn't wait to watch these with my siblings after school. Memories!
This is so well acted and the topic is handled with such sensitivity. There's also a subtlety and realism to the presentation that you just wouldn't see today.
The 70s screen realism is so piercing it wouldn't be attractive in 2022. But it has some kind of soul.
"Are you trying to make this difficult?"
Alex doesn't owe you anything, Jill.
It’s not fair to the child. She should have the ultimate say. 16 years old is almost an adult.
She did and likely will after 6 months.
Wow, Melissa Sue was so good in this.
Melissa Sue is a beautiful woman
i love it, WISE JUDGE, WE NEED MORE LIKE HER
She yells at the judge like she yelled at Miss Rachel Peale. 😁
Miss Peale can't read!!! Lol. I remember that episode too 👍
I enjoyed these programs after school. These were the times when we needed permission to watch television.😊
Me too
Kudos for the judge making the right call at the end and listening to her.
I don't think mother should be able do that she no mother. Only by blood only. That's it . When she walked out of her daughters life she left her responsibilities.
Same and Alexandria was 15,at that age it should be her choice, ridiculous that a stranger could just come and take away you from tve only family you know.
Wait 6 months...yeah like its not gonna hurt either one involved by waiting 6 months.Wait all you want,it doesn't solve things. So in other words the movie ends without nothing solved.
In my opinion, mom screwed up and should not get custody unless that is what the child wants. She is old enough to decide where she wants to be.
It's unfortunate, but the real parents can just come along after 10 years and snatch their child right out of a good loving family's hands.Imagine the devastation to the foster parents after raising a child from a baby!
During those 6 months maybe she could talk her bio mother move to where they are and she would have both parents. The bio mother messed up, she should be the one to have to move close by if she wants to be in her daughters life is how I see it.
Yeah she should move there and she could have visitatuons with the daughter so they get to know each other but it should be the 15 year olds choice if she wants a relationship with her birth mother and if she wants to get adopted but she could still have a relationship with the birth mother if she wants to and the birth mother really wants to be a part of her life even if she gets adopted. Unless the birth mother is of course abusive or a bad influence I don't think it's bad to get a relationship with your birth mother too, if the teenager wants to.
👍👍👍👍👍
I think selfish of mother try take her away. What's wrong just visiting and spending time with her on weekends or school holidays. To take away from a lovely family, friends and school.i think important to keep the life she had . So many times the bio parents do this and child ends up with emotional issues. Little steps important not a big jump.
I came across with this videos i never watched them before and I really love them, so real i wish programmes like this ones were showing nowdays for the teens and family to watch it ❤from the UK 🇬🇧
I love these older movies. These are the most real kind of movies ever. This one i am watching now & it seems like a very awesome movie. I can't wait to get through the whole movie. ❤❤❤❤❤
Waltons and little house on the prairie acting together. Pretty cool
Don't forget Happy Days
The Cunningham's as well.
Yes. At first I was confused lol
All the burden is placed on the daughter to please "Jill" 😢
A lot of this was over dramatized but it was nice to see the 'celebs' of yesteryear in something other than their then popular shows. The mother calling out of no where and telling Alexandria over the phone? Irresponsible much? Most mature adults irl would go through an intermediary. Definitely something of its time but still enjoyable. I grew to almost believe Melissa Sue Anderson was blind after her years of playing Mary Ingall's on LHOTHP for so long.
That’s a truly mature and reformed mother. She admits it was safest to give her up and comes into her life when her daughter is old enough to know. Regardless of who she lives with, she now understands her nightmares. This was a time when children’s and birth parent’s rights weren’t honored as much. This is stigma stoping. Her mother was sick, got help and is serious about sobriety and wants her almost adult daughter back. I see this as a good thing. It shows redemption and how we should see recovering alcoholics, people who had a problem and can change.
Any “mother” who tries to take her child away from a stable and happy environment against her will is incredibly selfish.
I agree with Jared Linden. She was trying to uproot Alex from her life. A life she was happy and secure in with a wonderful family who loved her. That was cruel and selfish. If she wanted to visit and establish a friendship with her, lovely. But, don't rip her away from her family!
@@jaredjlindenexactly!
Naw. Any parent that wants to disrupt a child's life like that still has addictive abusive behavior.
Ah! Ben Walton and Mary Ingalls travel to the 70s! What fun!
And isn't that the mother from Happy Days"?
@@Kris-jy7dz Totally the mother from Happy Days! BOL like a 70's actors reunion!
M Zach nor everyone can act blind
@M Zach She still is.
And Marion Cunningham leaves the 1950’s and 60’s to a short trip to the 70’s.
Marion Ross is the best TV mother
Awesome movie...didn't want it to end. Thanks for the upload.
Jon Walmsley was a great actor too I still remember him from the Waltons ❤❤
Eric Scott is his name
This earned "Mary" an Emmy.
She is a talented actress. Listen to how her voice quivers in those early scenes when she finds out that the bio mom is coming back.
I think she just always got overshadowed by Melissa Gilbert on Little House. But she is good.
And now poor Alex is all confused and doesn't know who she wants to go with??!! Like this happens all to frequently, the bio parents wanna walk back in to their child's life and its not fair to the child?! Not once has anybody asked Alex, How she feels? And what she wants to do? Oh my....I wasn't born in the 70's but these series are so good!!! Thank God for RUclips in 2021....because I am watching all em now!!!
I can see the bio parent getting visitation at that point, but let her stay with the family that had raised her and loved her and given her stability all those years!
I’ve watched this episode back on an afterschool specials DVD collection which I still have because at 5:03 just hours after that young girl went to sleep this is when she started having nightmares about her mother then an alcoholic screaming at her when she was done a smaller kid and it shook her so bad that you can hear her crying and carrying on in her sleep and this is when her sister or somebody calms her down and then the mother walks in also because that nightmare was very scary to her.
Virginia Capers' performance is superb.
A year later, Marion Ross puts a wig on and plays Anderson's grandma in "Survival of Dana," talk about total "camp," HILARIOUS.
The black lady judge is a hell of an artist and a beautiful lady ❤❤❤just freaking love her and so well spoken GOOD PROGRAM loves the 80’s
That case worker is working my nerves
Yes!! Indeed. 🤦🏾♀️🤦🏾♀️
These were always great movies
Thats the story of my life...speaking it out for the first time
Darvin Wangia thanks for making it real. I'm sorry that happened to u
@@dugout8863 thank you ...i exhaled already.
Nice film. Thanks for uploading
after 40 minutes they could have come up with better ending. It like listening to joke and the guy walks off without telling the punch line.
Raphael Andrews that’s exactly what I said!!!
Agreed. Most disappointing ending.
Raphael Andrews wow so true,,,,
It's such an obvious ending that there was no need to play it out! Back in the day, they made films like these which left endings to the imagination. I'll write you an ending if you really want an ending :)!!
Thanks :) I usually decide on my own whether to view or not to view, But because of these comments I won’t waste my time. I like endings that make sense.
The judge in this case was also uncle Phil‘s mother “Zeke’s mother “ from Fresh Prince of Bel-Air.
Now I know that the decision was left up in the air just to make a more interesting ending.Back in 1981 when I first saw this on 2 channels and one ending one half hour after another on the same day but only for a Special Report to cover it up.But still better late than never to find out Yes even 41 years later.
So that's it? The movie ends with no real resolution. Wow! That was disappointing.
thank you
Glad i found your page.
I remember being in another family but I didn't fit in because of my background and my mom finally stepped up and admitted to somethings but I still can't get over both of their abuse over me. My dad admitted I was physically abused in a way as a child...
I loved these as a kid I’m 47 now 😊
thanks a lot ; melissa exellent player
From birth parents to social services all adults do all they can do to mess with the mind of children without realising that they are doing it! Foster children are put in a very bad situation until they are 18 and then they are just forgotten about all together.. Which ever way they are totally messed up for life!
who wouldn't side with mrs. c?
Melissa was so pretty.
STILL is
I love you ❤️ Thank you
Kids today need these kind of shows to help guide them just like they guided my age group back then . I had both parents but I feel for the ones that didn't . Bring back programs for the present generation , kids these days are so messed up because of an absent parent or alcoholic parents or drug users . My parents were there for me when I needed a stern talking to , they steered me in the right direction . It takes a lot of understanding when a parent is abesnt for some reason . Children never get over the betrayal , they might forgive , but they don't forget .
She always been beautiful too me . Especially on my favorite show. Litter house on the parie
Litter?
Sweet little movie! Wish I knew the rest of the story, but I do like how it ends! Thank you for sharing!
How goes it end? She gets officially adopted right?
@@giovanniiamunno7874 I think it's supposed to be a "choose your own ending."
Wow made in 1978 yeah I was born in that year
If i were Melissa Sue anderson or Alexandra i wouldn't give my mother a chance..and The biological mother is a bit intrusive and not correct .She started to phone her daughter and next she wants to see her often. But it doesn't work like that! Her daughter has spent most of her life in foster homes so the mother should be patient and wait for her daughter to be ready or not ready or how to mess up a child or teenager for life. The real parents are those who RAISE THE KID NOT ONLY THOSE WHO GIVE THEM LIFE.And Alex parents are the Dennis. The end kind disappointed me.Alex HAS TO STAY WITH THE DENNIS until she's 18.
Love Melissa ❤
Alice Ghostley looks great in this.
I understand mother wants in a life but not a toy
Good ole Ben Walton
Little House on the Prairie meets the Walton's 🥰❤️ meets Happy Day's
But they needed to finish the thing. Why did they leave us hanging
Sweet girl in this movie
Melissa Sue Anderson as Alex ❤️
What was the decision in the end?
If was girl I wouldn't even said a single word when bio mother took out for a drink
Was the case worker, Cousin Esmerelda from Bewitched?
her vision seems just fine here, smh
Wow Marion Cunningham and Mary Ingalls lol
i have no closure. tf happened?
Horror scopes ! 😱
The judge is unbelievable. " I don't understand why you are making all this fuss" really?
Melissa Sue Anderson is so beautiful
Fun to see Melissa Sue Anderson :)
fun?? does she amuse you??? like a CLOWN.
@@capacola262743 💀💀💀
69$ for a brand new back pack?? That's crazy for the late 70's. It's like the price of bananas. They don't change! Bananas have been 69 cents a pound for the last thirty years. Back packs today still cost 69 dollars.
I had this issue but not courtwise with step family.
Melissa Sue Anderson ❤
It's true, foster kids have no voice
@Peace&Tranquility it was the line she used...and that was the point of the episode, explaining the feelings of the child that's in the system...I was dragged out by my hair by my mother's boyfriend at 14 yo..and she sat on the couch watching with no emotion at all...I was signed over to the state(not knowing while I was sleeping on beaches &back of friends parents cars)so my mother wouldn't be charged with my being truent from school. The state never believe us foster kids, one foster home dad told us girls to deep throat a banana and see who could do it the farthest, to get a some ice cream.....our social workers would never believe us. They always try to reunite us kids with our biological abusive parents, with lies they have changed....My Mother was a Satanic methhead, pure Evil, Even to this day...the other younger siblings who never went to foster care, because their dad had them conveniently, constantly ripped out of his life because she wanted them back for a couple months (their entire lives) are now Armed robbers, junkies, & RAPISTS. I just turned out suicidal and into self mutilation (it happened on MOTHER'S DAY) this demon mother was poison to our souls, And the state didn't give a shit about what we had to say. She would just lie & manipulate to get her way....If a mother or father fucks up so bad even once to get her/his child taken away...then she/he should NEVER have a right to those kids again!!!! But again foster kids have no voice, this is a stupid made up show!
@@sandraturner929 Ty for you thoughts...my only dilemma with that is, the Bible says love the father and they mother...these evil people worshipped SATAN...how can someone who loves GOD, love SATANists
Mary from Little House on the Prairie meets Ben from The Waltons. 😊
Bio mom’s got crazy eyes
If abandone your child and think you have a right to come back in their life after 10 or 18 yrs your crazy , you have no right stay out of the childs life like you have for the past 10 or 18 yrs , I was adopted by a monster and the B that gave birth to me was a horrible M and I have no reason to want to ever see her and wouldn't want her to try and find me
Good movie, wasn’t a fan of the ending.
Is that the same house (in the intro)of the mean neighbor (that Melissa) had to bring manuer to in "Beat the Turtle Drum?" Also, is that the same little Brother as well?
Ohhhh Melissa sue Anderson from little house on the prairie.
We don’t even get to know the outcome?
Like movie
I AM AN A.C.O.A. AND NEVER KNEW ALCOHOLISM DESTROYED OUR FAMILY AND SO WHEN MY MOTHER GOT SOBER AT AGE 58 IT WAS DIFFICULT, BUT I HV 3 YRS AT AGE 72, I AM LIVING A BTR LIFE. JANE LIVED TO BE 95 AND HAD 37 YRS.
Who played the foster family's son he is so familiar
Melissa Sue Anderson & Marion Ross later co-starred in a movie where Melissa is a Hecatite witch and she's trying to kill the girl that starred as Erin Walton and Marion Ross was trying to stop her. And here, the boy that played Jason Walton is her boyfriend.....Weird
That conversation about boys, was, disturbing.
There is a case in Florida involving a 5-year-old girl who was born with cocaine in her system. The biological mother was not married to the biological father. The hospital took the baby from the mother, and the mother made no attempt to notify the biological father. The infant was put up for adoption, and it was stated that the biological parents had abandoned the girl. She was adopted, but the biological father found out and has been trying for years to get custody of daughter.
The court system won't give him custody...he has no rights, and the adoptive parents won't even let him see/visit withe girl who is now 5-years-old. They have been fighting the father for years, and according to him they have used every trick in the book to block him. When the girl gets older and finds out what happened, I wonder what she will think of her adoptive parents? My guess is that they are probably brainwashing the girl now against her father. That way when she's old enough to makeup her own mind, she won't want anything to do with him.
Ben Walton was a depression era cutie pie. But come on Mary, you aren't blind here. And surely your house has mirrors. You know you are beautiful. That guy is thanking his lucky stars to have you as his girlfriend!
So how will the 6 months work, where and with whom will she live
makes no sense and completely unrealistic
Which mother won!!?!
Ben Walton with Mary Ingalls.🤮
Walton boyfriend has a gay voice.
Funny, that I watched dinky Hocker before this so got a double dose of two Walton boys in not so Walton clothes, this one especially. 😂
It's Marry from Little House on the Prarie
Not blind
Also Ben from the Walton's:)
They don't make shows like they used to ,reality TV stinks
Yea I agree these old tv shows were the best 😅
