I wish i could go back in time to the 1970s and 1980s again. I loved those decades. They were the best. Things were simpler and things just overall seemed better.

I worked with Kari (the actress who played Fran) at a high end restaurant in Oxnard CA called Jake’s around 1995. Kari worked in the bar section as a server and I worked in the main restaurant as a food server. Mr. Jacobsen who was the owner told me she was an actress and I recognized her on the TV show Gimme A Break with Nell Carter.

Wow why did I just watch this whole thing and it made me cry? I made friends with the girl next door when we moved to KS. When school started I found out that she was the “cootie girl”& no one liked her. She became my very best friend. The first best friend I ever had. Then the following summer we moved back home to LA,just like in the movie. We wrote a little bit but lost touch. Til Facebook was invented of course! We finally reunited 30 something yrs later when she flew out here. We went to Disneyland tgther. Anyway, this movie touched me

What was great about these 80’s movies - the girls make-up was respectful, dress was conservative and everyone seems to have a mother/father. People ate dinner together and mothers were moms at home waiting for their children to come home from school and had dinner on the table. Didn’t know how much I appreciated what I had growing up - now a days, they are lucky to have just one of these things.

I absolutely love watching old movies, especially the ones that came out in the early 80's. It takes me back to my childhood memories. I was really young at the time 7 years old in elementary school so I really don't remember those after school special for one thing I guess I was way too young to watch it back then and it seemed like it was more for teenagers to watch but I do remember as a little child in the 80's how my mother use to dress me. The 80's was during a time when life was much simple then. It wasn't any cellphones out, no Facebook, no Instagram, no TikTok, no social media period. The woman knew how to dress back then they wasn't showing their naked behind; the showed class, Families were eating at the dinner table together, Kids would go outside and be kids and play together with their friends and the kids knew to respect their parents at all times. How I miss these days being a young child in the 80's wish that I could go back, but these days are long gone. That's why you should always cherish each and every memory especially when it comes to your family.

Fran complains about hating snobs and then she is super snobby about her mom being a cook for a month. I grew up in the 80's, this is not how it was for most people - I would have considered Fran and her family "rich". They have a very nice house, trendy clothes, trendy haircuts, nice cars and the kids go to a nice school. Definitely a rosy, made for TV picture of what it was like.

I jusr loved seeing clothes of my youth like Ditto jeans and Dolphin shorts! I used to have over a dozen pairs of Dolphin shorts in every color and pattern available. My mom and my friend's parents would drop us off at Ports O' Cal in San Pedro so we could take the boat over to Catalina the whole day without parental guardianship. We had such a blast as young teens and summers going to Malibu with our coolers full of sandwiches, but we still walked to the village for date shakes. Those were truly great times! Kari, Julie and Jennifer all look drop dead gorgeous here. They also all look like they are about 6 years too old for the storyline/ subject matter. Kari was 20 and Jennifer was 19 and had already acted in Fast Times at the time this was filmed. These afterschool specials were a great childhood memory but it was standard to have near adult actors portraying teens because there weren't enough child/teen actors available. That whole carousel horse scene looks weird and awkward now. Another bit of trivia, Brenda was played by Haillie Todd who went on to be Lizzie McGuire's mom . I feel so old now.

Yeah. Maids made our beds, did our laundry. My mother rang a silver bell when dinner was ready. And, yes, we dressed for dinner, put our napkins on our laps and pulled a mental portfolio for sharing our experiences of the day. We never left the dinner table until we were finished with our food and asked appropriately if we "could be excused" a time long past, long gone.

Mr. Fairchild was played by James Karen, one of those "hey, it's THAT guy," actors. Within the horror realm specifically he was Mr. Teague in Poltergeist[1982] and Frank in Return Of The Living Dead[1985]. He had over 200 film and television credits, but like I said you probably never knew his name, but you'd recognize him anywhere because he was THAT guy.😄 And, oh, yes, Mrs' Fairchild was Carol Lawrence who originated the role of Maria in Broadway's West Side Story.

I had dresses in middle school that looked exactly like what Fran and Andrea were wearing at the party! I had a lot of them and never really wore them. Except to band and chorus concerts. Some of the other girls saw me wearing them and would compliment me. I mentioned that I had a whole bunch of them but never wore them. So, a few of the girls asked me if *they* could borrow a few and wear them! 😂. I said, “You bet!”. So, I loaned out a couple of my dresses to a few different girls. It was weird seeing the other girls in school walking around wearing my dresses. But, honestly, they looked a lot better in them than *I* did! LOL. Some of those girls were a lot more developed than I was. 😂 I was really lanky and flat-chested.
