I am with you on almost all your points except for Tear format being better. Truth is, that was one of the most gatekept formats we've seen to date. Either you were playing Tear and having fun, playing some Shifter BS and not letting anyone else have fun, or staying home. For all the warts the current terrible format has, you can at least bring GY-centric and/or Dark/Light decks to the table and not have your life ruined by the zillion Bystials, shufflers, Shifters and Abyss Dwellers around every corner. And funny enough, much like Tear one of Snake-Eyes greatest strengths/toxic elements is that it has 0 restrictions. Infinite free bodies and advantage, like Cyberse on crack. And the worst part is this time you can tell Konami was very intentional with making SE as broken as possible. Bonfire, Promethean, all manner of busted lvl 1 Fires dropping around this time, the early Master Duel release. They were very proud of this

The problem is Konami is making engines too powerful this format. Like, after fiendsmith we're going to have 3 engines that all don't use your normal summon, all of which can put up negated before committing to anything, an all of which can effortlessly link into your actual archetype's engine as well for no cost. Melodious, Fiendsmith, And diabellstar are all going to be serious problems in the future even if snake eyes is addressed.
They're all way too generic and accomplish way too much off a single card. It's like super heavy samurai being splashed into everything all over again. Konami doesn't need banlist at this point, they need to seriously fix their problem with card design by making everything way too generic with no restrictions... Bring back summon restrictions like branded fusion locking you into fusions only or SOMETHING please.

I'd argue that Tear format was just as bad if not worse in terms of gatekeeping than Snake-Eye. Being able to chain 13 effects off a single havnis with half of those effects controlling any potential good mills for your opponent made every other deck unplayable. Add on top of this the extremely low skill floor of the deck, and you had a perfect reason for so many players to take a well-deserved hiatus from the game.

Tear cards have a lot of GY effects as you know, so with milling them to the GY activates their effects so you could add any tear card, monster, fusion summon Elemental Heroes Style or send said cards to the GY to activate their effects all over again. The Ishizu cards making this A LOT stronger since they can recycle the deck (albeit slower than some decks that are far more toxic like runick. @@Furan4suHavnis could hit a miller (Agido and/or Kelbek, now banned), which milled your opponent's decks too. Depending on your mills as the Tear player, you would trigger a bunch of effects (Tear Spells/Traps all search or add back, and if you milled any of the girls, they could fuse). And if the opponent also played Tear, then they would end up chaining a bunch of effects to yours. The mirror match at full power is one of the most intense things you could possibly watch.

    • @PalkiaDialgaGiratina
      @PalkiaDialgaGiratina 2 месяца назад +3

I have to agree. I play Tear, I loved the art and themes initially, and I just love the deck's playstyle, but I can understand why people found the format bad. But what I can argue is that Tear definitely rewarded the more skilled player in mirror matches, even if it maybe had a low skill floor, the ceiling was really high.
Snake Eyes feels sacky bc it depends on engine + non-engine you draw, whereas you have to manufacture your lines with Tear (especially now that the deck is hit) with awkward hands. You never felt out of the game if you played Tear, even with bad hands, bc the outcomes weren't so much non-engine dependent as they were on your plays.

I was at a regional in germany (Stuttgart) and I played 6 matches, the first one I won against branded (I played pure lab without the unchained) after that I got complettly screwed by 4 Snake eye players. I went first, had 1 Ash , 1 Imperm , 1 Lady, 1 veiler, and a big welcome.
That is a pretty neat going first hand.
    So.
I ashed the first search with wanted, then veiler puppler, ash impern special summon lady, still got a full otk in my face because of link plays.
    I am still a beginner.
My problem is that those cards are getting out of hand.
Snake eye is just to strong, you need 1 card for a full combo and that is just disgusting.
    So many handtraps.
I would be finde with snake eye if they would have just a 1 start card combo who doenst mean "endfield" it should be like ok I need to play it perfectly without any interuption to get my "good" endfield.
Atm I am playing earthmaschines cus its more fun for me, but I lose against a ash if I dont have any extender in my Hand.
And that should be ok, a well placed hadntrap should be enough to stop or atleast take the speed out of their combo game.
Snake eye could be "nerfed" with reducing the one start combos to one. For example Bonfire 1 puppler 1.
Maybe there should be a rulling for handtraps.
In a deck there shouldnt be allowed more than 9 Handtraps.
that you have to side some handtraps like nibiru or veiler
At the moment, there is such a powercreep.
Everything gets better and better. If you play against tenpai for an example it was a great going second deck but now they figured out a going first combo.
Thats kinda unfair you see sengen and if you dont have any interuption your getting a freakin beatdown.
    Shortform:
Less 1 card combos (Reducing the powercreep with handtraps)
There should be more than 1 or 2 tier zero decks or atleast there should be alot of more good decks out there.
    Limitation of Handtraps
You should need more cards for engine.
A new banlist who hits snake eye and tenpai and make a solid state that there are no longer tier zero decks.
It would be more fun if there wouldnt be any tier zero decks, for example purrley, ashend, earthmaschine, branded, skystriker, traptrix all of them should get a bit of support and after that they should be all at the same power level to make a "fair game state" where no one is left behind. (Even with a low budget)
More support for older decks or new arch types that dont fit into pyro (Tenpai/Snake eye)
Yes you can flame me for beeing bad but idc.
I have fun playing against my friends and on my local.

Issue is defining a handtrap. Handtrap is not an official Konami term, it was coined by players. So limiting handtraps without an official ruling on what is defined as a handtrap wouldn't be theasible.
Bigger issue is how absolutely generic the extra deck has gotten and links made it worse. At least with prior mechanics of somewhat required specific materials but because of links, even those mechanics are losing their identity.
Look at Chaos Angel. Doesn't even require a tuner. Ty-phon, Zeus, the numerous contact fusions, and then cards like Crimson Dragon that properly synchro summon cards without any material at all.

idk if i'd call it worse than Tear Zero. Its on par with it in terms of how much it has warped the format. The problem really is that Konami is taking forever to address the format (which was also an issue with both Tier Zero and Kashtira, but not to this extent), and its made many board breakers unviable (which can make dealing with other anti-meta decks frustrating).
The big issue on Konami's part is that idk if there's a way to gradually reduce the deck's power without just making it more sacky, so any major bans would just outright kill the deck and waste hundreds of dollars worth of investment. At least in the case of Tear, limiting everything served a mechanical purpose. If you still see your 1-ofs in Snake-Eye, you're essentially still playing the tier 0 deck because the archetype is one big search network made up of 1 card starters. This is also ignoring the fact that without any bans, the Snake Eye engine still works with a LOT of supplemental stuff that can further boost consistency. Are we just going to ignore the SHS package and Infernal Flame Banshee? What about Melodious or Kashtira? And of course, the deck can always play Prosperity to fill gaps. They just don't HAVE to rn.
The whole thing is just a lose-lose scenario I think, anyone who bought this deck is liable to lose a lot if they shilled out for the deck when it became meta. But if we dont ban anything, the deck will still be uncontested.
I only saved on buying the deck core because I bought the pieces during AGOV to playtest for a homebrew format I was working on. I only have a physical Snake-Eye deck core due to happenstance basically, lol. I don't own SP, so its not worth playing for me. That and I dont have a vehicle or a locals near my area. I'd have to remote duel.
My advice would be to offload your cards before you get burned on the next list. Original is most liable to be banned on the next list, and it will kill the deck's meta relevance. Only reason i'm keeping my cards is because I could still use the pieces probably as supplemental engines in other rogue decks after Konami kills the tier 0 deck.

The funny thing is tear format was more bearable because diversity in deck building was at rock bottom. The engine was more or less identical, you had some people play 3 sulliek/scream instead of 2 and occasionally people would run heart beat and a cryme, though often they were sided in. Even non-engine it was just bystials, super poly, talents, droplet.
Honestly post phhy I expect that the mirror would have been even more terrible than it was before the list. Even something as small as metanoise becoming the norm is a big headache in pushing through a board. Trivikarma not only adds planet, but also scream and makes double trap set ups a lot more common with those being hard to stop. Not to mention fenrir became an engine card and you'd have to deal with arise heart in the format.
I think it was a fun format for 6 weeks but incredible breakable by the player base after that. Most of the nonsense tear got up to later on could be done at a much higher power level at its peak.

And all tech cards that are able to be used in the decks need to be supplemental and not stuff that just insta-blows out other decks. I want to see a world where its archetype vs archetype, or even mixed archetypes with with deck-builders flair to them that makes them unique but not blowouts. Theres a comparison to be drawn with competitive Pokemon in Gen 2 (video game not TCG). Snorlax is the tier 0 mon. He is more or less REQUIRED to be on every single team and the meta is warped around him. His bulk, damage, moveset, ability to heal, etc are solid even as far as gen 5 and are near oppressive in Gen 2. But its not generally considered a problem, why?
Because Snorlax still adds interesting gameplay. He doesnt disable team comps, he doesnt pop out and Roar out your lead then oneshot whoevwr comes out, he doesnt have access to powerful tools like Spore. He has one defined role, that isnt niche, and hes the best at it, and just so happens to be SO good at it that he fits in every comp. You need a strategy to deal with Snorlax, but no team is just outright disabled by him. Any team, any mon, can deal with Snorlax given good play, its just much harder with others.
Compare this to YuGiOh, and Yubel right now. Yubel is not only effectively immune to destroy effects (which includes a lot of negation effects), they also search themselves out. And they have a built in monster negate for their archetype... a negate with an upside that lets them accelerate their gameplan.
You cant beat them down as YOU get punished for having tougher monsters. You cant go over them because youre forced to attack Yubel if possible. You cant destroy them because that brings out their even better cards.
Is there counterplay? Sure. But it doesmt have a specific weakness unique to Yubel. Yes you can potentially drop Skill Drain and just beat them down the next turn for free, assuming you manages to play past their negates, but effect negation counters literally every deck.
YGO has this problem of making archetypes too powerful not by making them offensive and exciting powerhouses, hut by making their defense and utility so high that good play means your opponent doesnt even get to try in the first place. You can throw out Gengar to dodge Snorlax's scary STAB Body Slam. You cant however declare a direct attack with Alteegeist Meluseek and send Yubel to bypass the destroyed effect as an exploitable weakness by a weaker archetype because Yubel is specifically designed to prevent its own counterplay.
And all this WOULDNT be that powerful the entire archetype didnt hust search itself, shuffle the resources back into the deck to be searched again, repeat en masse every turn.

There’s a bit too much YuGiOh in my Snake Eyes TCG
All jokes aside, my two favorite decks are Purrely and HERO (I know, weird combo). I really wanted to start playing HERO again since I haven’t touched the deck in more than a year, but I feel like I would severely nerf myself by playing that strategy simply on the fact that the deck cannot tank 3 hand traps in one turn, as well as the fact that I don’t have anywhere near enough space to fit in at least 12 hand traps, which is the bare minimum in this format. So, yeah, I’ll stick to my 18 hand trap purrely deck

    • @jeanpitre5789
      @jeanpitre5789 2 месяца назад

What purrely build are you running that has 18 handtraps? Purrely is my favorite deck and mine only fits 12. I could MAYBE fit more but then I'd need to remove the dark world engine which frankly makes the deck viable. Without reignbeaux and a single silvva in deck, you essentially will use your entire hand turn 1 and that's extremely dangerous when you know what decks can do on both turns. Darkworld helps keep you from eliminating your own hand just to play the deck because purrely 100% is a two-card combo deck regardless what ANYONE wants to say about it. None of the cards in the entire deck combo without a second piece and even one of its 2 main deck monsters is a gamble on if it even has an effect. If snake-eyes ash effect was essentially Purrely's effect and not it's actual effect, the deck would be tier 1 at best becuase it would no longer be a guaranteed 1 card combo and the card added wouldn't be something specific every time.

And SE with hand traps is fair game, i beat SE with hand traps and galaxy cydras i mean come on guys, so it can be done and it was a very fun game, just have to start utilizing them old schools everyone forgot with some new meta, support is slowly creeping, and yubel is crazy.

I don’t under why they think it’s okay to give 1 singular card +3 crazy effects. If they gave each card 1/3 of the effects the deck would probably still be viable but not make Yugioh this monstrosity to play :( really hate what Yugioh is becoming.

Hitting the generic end board just means its as consistently going to get the next generic end board cards, all of a sudden appo is more heavily focused on. only good to come from the ban list is the cheap QCR baronne since she's my favourite card, yes shes very good but I strongly believe it was snake eyes abusing her with consistency that made her broken

Im gonna yap a bit about why snake eye is IMO worse for yugioh than tear or kash
I first played yugioh semi competitively during Tear Zero, and i played Dragonmaid against my friend's full power Tear. While it was unfair, i still got to play a bit, and my graveyard effects did help me.
Kashtira format comes, and i was then playing mathmech. Again, i was still 100% losing to Kashtira, but the interruptions we had felt impectful enough to get me to turn 2-3 or so
Im playing Lab now in Snake Eye, and at this point i feel like Snake Eye is worse than the other two simply cause its not a ton of engine restrictions, and it just uses a ton of generics to screw me over. Imperm the ash? Who cares? They have extenders. Going first? Cant do anything, their hand has 3 interruptions. I hate to be the guy playing floodgates (i just dont like the playstyle), but at this point i have to of im going to try to even play against them
TLDR: Go play Magic until they ban actual snake eye engine cards

Something I’ve learned about yugioh since the old BURNING ABYSS days is that there will always be something to bitch about , I play voiceless and have beat snake eye a NUMBERRR of times , the reason I chose not to play snake eye is because I feel there is potential for much stronger decks and I have been experimenting. A lot of these decks nowadays are 15-20 hand traps n 5 one card starters when you think of a deck that can do this successfully aswell I think of yubel , they have d lotus the field spell and beckoning beast and the continuous spell. Which you play all at three. I think that winning a ycs or regionals even is based off of pure luck, yeah it sucks there is a lot of snake eyes but I don’t think it matters bc once something stronger comes out people will slowly stop playing this deck

why doesnt komoney just start making the game healthy again? this is why i prefer older formats, i actually enjoy time wizard tournaments more than modern yugioh. i wish konami would just focus on making the game balanced and a reasonable price so players can play their favorite deck and enjoy the game, win or lose.
How to fix the format? Here's my idea to konami: If you wanna keep your busted snake-eyes deck then just start putting cards to one WITHIN the archtype. unban cards that suffered as a result of snake-eyes as well as other cards that dont do much at 1. start thinking of card ideas to support older archtypes to get older players into the game

I think having a singular best deck is definitely toxic regardless of skill in that format for mirrors! If you didn't feel it was bad before then I think it's because of you being competitive and not really worry about the entire health of the game. And honestly, we need to have the game designed around 2 card combos rather than one. And if there is a one card combo then it needs to have heavy restrictions so that it won't be just summoning the best generic extra deck monsters. It's honestly Yu-Gi-Ohs modern design philosophy thats a problem. Casual YuGi player take i suppose.

2 card combos usually mean you have to pull combos out of you ass quite often, which is good. A 1-card combo should either not do that much or be something so convoluted that there actually is no way Konami saw it coming.

@brandonjbubbles3181 OTS pack Ultimates do NOT reflect the state of production or influence banlist choices as OTS packs are a net negative for Konami to begin with. They exist to incentivize people to play (and hopefully buy) from OTSs. This is ignoring the fact that PLENTY of Starlights and Ultimates/collectors have been hit in the past shortly after being released as starlights/Ultimates/collectors, such as Arise-Heart, Thunder dragon colossus, and Runick Fountain. When you consider OTS packs do NOT PUSH PRODUCT, there is no reason not to hit it, especially if they wanna push the new tenpai and soon marincess/trickstar supports coming in the next few months. What better way to push them than to drastically shift the meta?

I have to strongly disagree with making consistency hits. Hitting consistency won’t do anytime because if they open up with the starter that person can go through their whole combo. The best option is believe is banning a card to change up how the deck is played not how often i see that card
