For those wondering what the other FE characters who will be summoned by the rings are, the opening of the previous trailer showed us all of them, albeit in a mosaic artstyle: 1.) Marth 2.) Celica 3.) Sigurd 4.) Leif 5.) Roy 6.) Lyn 7.) Eirika 8.) Ike 9.) Micaiah 10.) Lucina 11.) Female Corrin 12.) Male Byleth Another thing to note is that in these mosaics, Ike has an axe and yellow clothing, and Lucina has a bow. These are probably in reference to Brave Ike and Legendary Lucina from FE Heroes. I don't know if this means ring heroes will be able to wield other weapons in Engage, but I thought it worth pointing out.
Ike was wielding Ragnell in this trailer, Lyn had a bow, and Lucina was armed with her Falchion too. So either the mosaic depictions were red herrings, or it will be possible to give them different weapons.
I personally like how Marth clarifies he is the "Emblem" Marth. They still have the same personalities of the originals, but that clarification lets you know the Emblem is more of an echo of the Hero that was summoned 1000 years ago.
Is it just me, or is this game reusing models? The blonde hair calvary unit is literally a great grandchild of Dimitri, and the red-haired lord (who is evil...I think?). Looks exactly like Sulvain. Now, I'm not completely against reusing models, but, like, don't hit me across the head with them.

Having the 3H models in this engine would‘ve been extremely noticeable (because of how … for lack of a better term „low quality“ they are). Their designs are just very similar/generic. It‘s like how a lot of the christmas cavs look the same.

I had very low expectations for this game's plot, but despite the very simple premise, I'm seeing some fairly decent worldbuilding, a surprisingly grim tone, and some potential good character interactions, especially between Marth and Alear.

Kaga FE games had art that looks similar to Arslan & Record of Lodoss War because that's what Medieval Fantasy animu looked like back in the 90s & 80s. It's kinda like how Xenoblade 3 has the most Shonen Anime plot followed by XB1 but it's XB2 that gets labeled as Anime despite it being the most Gnostic interpretation of the Xeno setting. WTH does anime mean? It's a dumb buzzword at this point for "art style I don't like."

I was hoping for something decent at least, now super disappointed, probably not going to play it.

Notice how Lucina and Ike appear with swords while their portraits on the ring have a bow and axe respectively. Lyn is the same, with her having a bow instead of a sword. 🤔
and Marth in mural is the pants-less version of way back in 90's design but his actual 3D model is the one from recent games (FE Heroes version iirc) kinda weird yeah, the mural and 3D model didnt really align, unless its post-game skin unlock

@@KaitN9 Pokemon is literally the most profitable franchise in the world. Only recently did the "MCU" become more profitable, but that's combining together a bunch of franchises together.
I'm happy to see evil rings to not just get evil versions of the protagonists, but also to allow a chance for some of the series' best villains to make a return. It sounds like there are only 12 rings, but never count out DLC for Alm, Eliwood, Hector, Ephraim, Chrom, Dimitri, Edelgard, Claude, and maybe others.

Is it just me, or does this game look GORGEOUS??? I seriously thought a game this pretty would never be able to run on the switch we have now and they were going to announce a new one
I'm guessing Alear having two drastically different hair colors is a sign that he is part divine and fell dragon? And the Emblem Rings can become corrupted, giving us fallen versions of the characters. I just hope the story delivers if they're aiming for a singular narrative instead of a split route this time.
@@xgerik1 It's the first FE game I played. I really loved how at the end Eirika addressed the player directly. Makes you feel like you're there as you, and not as a character.

Those cutscenes punch way WAY above their weight. Awakening and Fates cutscenes are... idk man but id say thats the best visuals i ever saw on 3ds, and yeah Engages cutscenes (Engage overall actually) reminds me of that.
@@supervegito2277 to this day I enjoy looking up the upscale HD 60 FPS versions of particularly the Fates cutscenes. I mean it is AMAZING. I definitely agree that they have to be the best visuals on the 3DS. I mean the reason I got into this series was because the Awakening intro piqued my interest just enough. It’s just so good.
@@Boulder7685 the 3H real cutscenes are choppy anime cutscenes. There are in-engine scenes that look really just ok since the models and textures are relatively bland. 3 Hopes had better of these but none pre-rendered
@@Boulder7685 Three Houses does have cutscenes with better than normal visuals... they are, however, not CGI, but more handdrawn like youd see in an actual anime. Shadows of Valentia did the same thing as Three houses. Some people prefer that... im not amongs them, id rather have high end cell shaded 60fps goodness.

I mean, rings are basically Horcruxes, with memory of a soul trapped in them. And we already know from previous video that MC slept for a thousand years. So real Marth died long time ago in his world.
the pre rendered cutscenes are all now in 3D instead of animated like before. only the intro lore seems to be animated. which is great imo. now they actually push the engine to make 3D scenes that actuall yhappen within the map instead of pseudo 2.5D like in three house

As someone who has played every single game in the series and was VERY unsure when Engage was announced, I’m officially hyped. The original trailer was such a drastic change from the more recent FE that it threw me for a massive loop. However, the trailers of the past two months showing off more of the characters and gameplay, and this trailer here showing a little more of the story have made me very excited! As someone who wasn’t really a fan of Three Houses due to relatively lackluster gameplay, the main reason I play FE, the gameplay in this looks great. Enough customization to not make every playthrough the same or drive new 3H players away, but still giving individual units individuality where it matters with classes and (seemingly) skills. Character designs were my biggest worry but I’ve come to accept that while the style just isn’t something I love, I don’t really hate any design I’ve seen so far. Some of them are a bit over designed, and Alear’s hair is still awful to look at, but I’ve come to see it as part of their character and charm. Graphics look really good for a switch game. I don’t think 3H looked good. The textures were muddy, the models were extremely rough, but I attributed it to the switch, a less then powerful console. But man Engage looks great. I’m sure it won’t look that good on the switch but it still looks good. Overall, I’m very excited. I can’t wait for January 20th!
I’m agree with you man. Design wise, the game looks alright. Thought the story was average for being “Defeat the fell dragon” but maybe not, just hoping gameplay would be the big portion of the game(especially the music)
I agree on the character designs. Heck, some of them are just the same model with different hair styles and eye colors. But I’m stoked for everything else!
right there with you! i fully went with the hype for three houses at first, but when the hype fell off the love just didn’t stick. it didn’t feel like the games i had actually fallen in love with though i was warily excited for engage from the first trailer (despite the silly designs), this one blew me away. i’m trying not to be hyped and chat too much online about it, lest i be pulled into a huge vortex again and end up disappointed when it dies down, but the gameplay looks so good and even if the plot is fire emblem cheesy predictable, it looks good so far…..
I still need to revisit Fire Emblem: Hogwarts on the "main story" with red or blue faction. Finished with Claude, but I've heard that Golden Deer was more of an afterthought.
I mean could you imagine if alm and celica didn't promise to not get in a big fight when they were kids? The potential of the late game being alm's army vs celica's coulda be kinda wild
I personally love the art direction. Vibrant colors, bold lines. This is probably the best anime art style game. All 3D anime games have a really bad shaders that amplifies the 3D effect rather than the art direction they are looking for. Of course this has it to but it’s extremely reduced and gives a nicer simpler picture. Unpopular opinion, this game looks phenomenal. I can see the backlash for the MC’s design. Personally it’s grown on me, plus he’s apparently a “dragon”. I’m sure the hair is going to represent something the trailers have yet to reveal.

That we see onscreen, anyway. Technically, there's Chrom, but only because of time travel shenanigans. Claude's parents are still alive during Three Houses, if I am not mistaken, but we don't see them show up onscreen.
@@DavidHutchinson0713 Chrome had a baby at the start of part 2, so he counts there. Time travel Lucina lost her dad, so doesn't count if viewing it from that angle.
So when the enemy puts on an Emblem Ring, the character becomes the Excelblem version of the character lol. Jokes aside, I’m looking forward to more info on this game, and the MCs design is growing on me. Edit: I’m casting my vote now. If the rings are known as Emblems, it’ll be likely that Alear themselves will turn out to be the Fire Emblem.
I was hoping that the villains would use past FE villain emblems but the concept of them turning emblems into red units is really funny to me. This game looks great!!!! Also it’s great to see Ike using Ragnell in this trailer!
Looks super impressive honestly. Glad it seems like they’re going back to a single story after multiple routes in the last few games. Hopefully it’ll be more engaging this time around!

All I wanna know is if the villains are any good this time around. For three games straight all we have are dumb ugly clowns and boring dark cult men, and the closest we get to good villains are a bunch of drama queens. I just wanna see Fire Emblem go back to the ways when both heroes and villains are interesting without having to dive into any "gray morale" debacle.

@@StarVerix for 'non-(racist)-caricature enemies' id say basilio. the characters in the trailer are def a step in the right direction though, i was glad to see their hair was actually dark instead of white or blonde like... every other time. if grey from echoes counts, id say him as well, but hes also a redesign from a remake so i dont know if id count him. i would say if every other dark skinned fe character is racially ambiguous, than these two are as well, if not more because their base designs look very much like someone just designed a white character and threw darker colors on them. it would be nice to see a black fe charicter who actually has braids or locs one day, or other details often left out like lighter palms. hopefully it means theyre putting in some effort with their characters of color after years of being asked, thats what it looks like to me- so, a win!
I'm excited for this one! I hope the story is more ddramatic, and that I love it more than Awakening! I want to be just as obsessed with this game as that one!
I hope there is something in the gameplay that would allow us to play around with the classes for each unit. I know it made more sense in Houses because it was a school, but that freedom to make anyone anything was really cool. Even if there isn't that level of customization it would be nice to have some level of influence/customization on the units.
As someone who's only starting to really get into the FE franchise thanks to Awakening, I cannot express just how hyped this trailer has made me! Though the protagonist's design isn't necessarily my favorite, I don't hate it, and the game definitely looks worth playing regardless. I'm also hearing a lot of familiar voice actors here, but I can't place them all.
I might just be a newcomer (Demo of Awakening is what got me here back in 2014/2015 idr) but EVERYTHING ive seen of Engage so far (espicially the cutscenes) reminds me of Awakening and Fates, so i could see other stuff fit more along those lines as well... and neither of those 2 where as open as three houses. NOt fully linear either, but not free for alls.
Pretty new to FE, actually first one I finished was FE echoes like 3 months ago and super pumped to see Celica! Currently working on three houses as we speak. I’m late to the party but dang this party is good!
The Crown Prince of Brodia (or whatever) should have been MC! He has a fantastic design, and with the one line we get about his father, it could have set up an intriguing story. I don't mind "simple" stories. But this one is looking a little too "by the numbers".
Personally, I very much welcome a "by-the-numbers" storyline; I like what Fates wanted to do, and Three Houses was great, but the discourse that came from having multiple routes with different plotlines has made me become incredibly weary (ESPECIALLY in the matter of Three Houses).
The story actually looks pretty great, and it's nice to see that the Emblem characters are actually involved, rather than bystanders. I'm really looking forward to this now, even IF the art direction makes me want to bleach my eyeballs.
@@r.c.c.10 Design went full anime, I get the same feeling when I saw Xeniblade 2 the first time. You never go full anime if you're not 100% prepared to revel in the absurdity. These main character designs get more absurd with each installment, I miss they days with Robin where it just a guy in a fancy coat. The story also feels like it's off on the wrong foot. I'm worried the rings are gonna be too self-referential, In a story that all the clues are showing could be suuuuper generic.
@@Luminositri Man, the Xenoblade Chronicles franchise has anime-like artsyle and look how well they did it. Mainly the second one. It doesn't interfere at all with the characters's traits and personality, with the story. And it feels coherent. Or simply look at Three Houses which also has anime-like up to a certain degree. Anime isn't just lolis or waifus.

Notice how Lucina and Ike appear with swords while their portraits on the ring have a bow and axe respectively. Lyn is the same, with her having a bow instead of a sword. 🤔
In previous trailers we’ve seen Sigurd use a sword too, as well as his lance

and Marth in mural is the pants-less version of way back in 90's design but his actual 3D model is the one from recent games (FE Heroes version iirc)

I'm happy to see evil rings to not just get evil versions of the protagonists, but also to allow a chance for some of the series' best villains to make a return. It sounds like there are only 12 rings, but never count out DLC for Alm, Eliwood, Hector, Ephraim, Chrom, Dimitri, Edelgard, Claude, and maybe others.

@@Boulder7685 the 3H real cutscenes are choppy anime cutscenes. There are in-engine scenes that look really just ok since the models and textures are relatively bland. 3 Hopes had better of these but none pre-rendered

Shadows of Valentia did the same thing as Three houses. Some people prefer that... im not amongs them, id rather have high end cell shaded 60fps goodness.

the pre rendered cutscenes are all now in 3D instead of animated like before. only the intro lore seems to be animated. which is great imo. now they actually push the engine to make 3D scenes that actuall yhappen within the map instead of pseudo 2.5D like in three house

As someone who has played every single game in the series and was VERY unsure when Engage was announced, I’m officially hyped. The original trailer was such a drastic change from the more recent FE that it threw me for a massive loop. However, the trailers of the past two months showing off more of the characters and gameplay, and this trailer here showing a little more of the story have made me very excited!
As someone who wasn’t really a fan of Three Houses due to relatively lackluster gameplay, the main reason I play FE, the gameplay in this looks great. Enough customization to not make every playthrough the same or drive new 3H players away, but still giving individual units individuality where it matters with classes and (seemingly) skills.
Character designs were my biggest worry but I’ve come to accept that while the style just isn’t something I love, I don’t really hate any design I’ve seen so far. Some of them are a bit over designed, and Alear’s hair is still awful to look at, but I’ve come to see it as part of their character and charm.
Graphics look really good for a switch game. I don’t think 3H looked good. The textures were muddy, the models were extremely rough, but I attributed it to the switch, a less then powerful console. But man Engage looks great. I’m sure it won’t look that good on the switch but it still looks good.
Overall, I’m very excited. I can’t wait for January 20th!
I’m agree with you man. Design wise, the game looks alright. Thought the story was average for being “Defeat the fell dragon” but maybe not, just hoping gameplay would be the big portion of the game(especially the music)

i fully went with the hype for three houses at first, but when the hype fell off the love just didn’t stick. it didn’t feel like the games i had actually fallen in love with
though i was warily excited for engage from the first trailer (despite the silly designs), this one blew me away. i’m trying not to be hyped and chat too much online about it, lest i be pulled into a huge vortex again and end up disappointed when it dies down, but the gameplay looks so good and even if the plot is fire emblem cheesy predictable, it looks good so far…..
The only thing I don't like about the design is that 90% of the female characters have the same face
I still need to revisit Fire Emblem: Hogwarts on the "main story" with red or blue faction. Finished with Claude, but I've heard that Golden Deer was more of an afterthought.

I personally love the art direction. Vibrant colors, bold lines. This is probably the best anime art style game. All 3D anime games have a really bad shaders that amplifies the 3D effect rather than the art direction they are looking for. Of course this has it to but it’s extremely reduced and gives a nicer simpler picture. Unpopular opinion, this game looks phenomenal. I can see the backlash for the MC’s design. Personally it’s grown on me, plus he’s apparently a “dragon”. I’m sure the hair is going to represent something the trailers have yet to reveal.

@@StarVerix for 'non-(racist)-caricature enemies' id say basilio. the characters in the trailer are def a step in the right direction though, i was glad to see their hair was actually dark instead of white or blonde like... every other time. if grey from echoes counts, id say him as well, but hes also a redesign from a remake so i dont know if id count him. i would say if every other dark skinned fe character is racially ambiguous, than these two are as well, if not more because their base designs look very much like someone just designed a white character and threw darker colors on them. it would be nice to see a black fe charicter who actually has braids or locs one day, or other details often left out like lighter palms. hopefully it means theyre putting in some effort with their characters of color after years of being asked, thats what it looks like to me- so, a win!

As someone who started playing Fire Emblems games with Path of Radiance being my first foray, it's great to see Ike in this trailer with Ragnell
You know its gonna be good when the first thing you hear is a fetch quest.
I hope there is something in the gameplay that would allow us to play around with the classes for each unit. I know it made more sense in Houses because it was a school, but that freedom to make anyone anything was really cool. Even if there isn't that level of customization it would be nice to have some level of influence/customization on the units.
As someone who's only starting to really get into the FE franchise thanks to Awakening, I cannot express just how hyped this trailer has made me! Though the protagonist's design isn't necessarily my favorite, I don't hate it, and the game definitely looks worth playing regardless. I'm also hearing a lot of familiar voice actors here, but I can't place them all.

I might just be a newcomer (Demo of Awakening is what got me here back in 2014/2015 idr) but EVERYTHING ive seen of Engage so far (espicially the cutscenes) reminds me of Awakening and Fates, so i could see other stuff fit more along those lines as well... and neither of those 2 where as open as three houses. NOt fully linear either, but not free for alls.

Personally, I very much welcome a "by-the-numbers" storyline; I like what Fates wanted to do, and Three Houses was great, but the discourse that came from having multiple routes with different plotlines has made me become incredibly weary (ESPECIALLY in the matter of Three Houses).

The story actually looks pretty great, and it's nice to see that the Emblem characters are actually involved, rather than bystanders. I'm really looking forward to this now, even IF the art direction makes me want to bleach my eyeballs.
Agreed! All characters look life generic waifus, lolis and husbandos with no personality. hope the story is good enough, at least.
@@r.c.c.10 Design went full anime, I get the same feeling when I saw Xeniblade 2 the first time. You never go full anime if you're not 100% prepared to revel in the absurdity. These main character designs get more absurd with each installment, I miss they days with Robin where it just a guy in a fancy coat.
The story also feels like it's off on the wrong foot. I'm worried the rings are gonna be too self-referential, In a story that all the clues are showing could be suuuuper generic.

@@Luminositri Man, the Xenoblade Chronicles franchise has anime-like artsyle and look how well they did it. Mainly the second one. It doesn't interfere at all with the characters's traits and personality, with the story. And it feels coherent.
Or simply look at Three Houses which also has anime-like up to a certain degree. Anime isn't just lolis or waifus.
