I read this before watching and thought it was a “it’s morbin time” style meme. But then the fire emblem engage characters yelled emblem engage and engaged with emblems.
I love Fire Emblem, but I'm not hyped by summoning the old heroes as a main part in a mainline game. It's one thing for Spotpass or using Amiibos, but I'd rather a mainline game stand on its own. That being said, I will definitely give this a shot. The premise sounds interesting, and the character designs have turned out well. Toothpaste-chan actually looks far better than the leaked screenshot I saw.
Why would u want to use the spot pass or amibo feature for that? I for one think that using both of those things especially for summoning something, is a huge pain. Summoning hereos isn't a bad idea imo but they don't need to overdo it and should limit to only a few characters since they already did that concept with Fire Emblem Heroes.
The premise sounds interesting? It seems to be just the same generic stop the bad sorcerer from summoning/reviving the evil dragon. Now with NPCs praising the avatar for how amazing they are every 30 seconds.
Summoning old MCs makes more sense when you consider this game was originally supposed to come out in 2020 for the 30th anniversary, the whole game feels like a celebration of the franchise.
Because the game is already done and it has been for a while they were just holding on to it for some reason, probably to sell the new warriors game better

Well yeah that's nintendos thing. Games they personally make usually are done when they announce it (or so I hear consrantly) I think they just want to get the hype up for it before it releases. Which is honestly good since I don't think I could take another of my favorite game series being delayed
having a summoning system like some FEH phone game is exciting? Feels like the game just cant stand on its own and has to rely on the star factor from the other games
I don't really know what to think about this one, but it certainly looks way better than what the leaks showed. The story sounds just like the usual, didn't expect more tbh.
I’m very conflicted. On one hand, the cutscenes are closer to Awakening than Three Houses, the character models have been polished since the leak, and summoning past protagonists is cool. On the other hand, GOD DAMN do the in-game sections look rough. If people complained about backgrounds and UI in Three Houses then oh boy are they gonna dunk on this one

Hopefully the past characters actually play an important role in the story and ain't just in it for fan service. I'd love the past characters interact with other characters from different games. I'd love to see robin and byleth together. I'd find that so cool Edit: I'd love other fire emblem characters too. Robin talking strategies with Claude, Marth and lucina, among many others.
What's weird is we only saw main character of each game on the ring at the beginning. I really hope more than main character of each game are in the game like Hector, Eliwood, and Robin (because they had Chrom on the ring)
@@Palilel true byleth is more boring then my pet rock, but Im writing a fan fiction where the two of them are fighting eachother during the events of 3 houses, so I guess that's why. I really hope the previous heroes being in the game is just an optional battle feature and doesn’t overshadow the new cast, because it really detracts from what could be a cool new mainline game. Take out the other heroes and it feels like you have a new game, but with them it just feels like a weird semi-spinoff
The franchise has advanced and improved for the last few years even during Nintendo Switch era. The franchise was almost dead back in 2010 but Thanks to Fire Emblem Awakening, it help save the franchise for being bury under a grave.
2:49 I think this could hinting at the fact that the Villain of this game might actually be able to summon villains from previous FE games, I would so love to see that
@@Michael-bb1cw I'm hoping that IF the villain can summon at all, he does summon Grima. We only got to fight a baby version of him, he seems like the strongest dragon power wise, and it makes a LOT of sense that a dragon summons another dragon to aide him. All the main characters seem to summon heroes with the same arc type as them
@@Dragofrost7777 We fought Baby Grima in SoV and a mid stage Grima in Awakening, if they do a full powered Grima I doubt it'd be through a ring and rather it would go down the path that Chrom was the one to finish Grima off (being sealed rather than killed). If they summon Grima it would likely be end game Awakening Grima, which would mean Robin finished Grima off since he's dead.

I'm thinking its like with corrin and Robin where you have the default look and can change it when you play the game
Not sure what to think of this one yet. I'm all for a new Fire Emblem that's actually a TBS. But I'm not too fond of the main character's design, or the Heroes-bit of channeling the previous FE protagonists. Although that second one could be fun if you can actually pick which new character gets which old one. I'm not sure if they'll allow that though, in which case I'd rather just concentrate on the new people. Oh well, we'll see on release. Odds are I'll buy it, unless they really manage to turn me off.
At around 2:00 it shows how you can choose who you channel with a "ring". The options are Sigurd and Marth, Sigurd is used later on by a different unit, so I think its like a normal item which could be fun if implemented well.
@@martinfranzer2254 Ah, good catch, thank you. Still think that between Heroes, Warriors, and rereleases of Tokyo Mirage and FE1 there were already enough games about that reintroduce old FE characters. But if they put a new twist on it, and more importantly the new characters aren't all written to be exactly like a single old counterpart character, I could be down for that.
@@bificommander7472 Just in terms of not having the MTX aspect, this would be a leg-up over Heroes. The basic setup of that game was actually fun, and a good stripped-down-for-mobile version of a mid-tier handheld FE. So I figure this will come in somewhere above that in playability.
@@mandisaw I never got into Heroes, because of the postage-stamp sized maps. I played the mobile version of Langrisser for a bit, as I felt it still had some actual strategy on the battlemap. The gatcha mechanics turned me off eventually, along with benching all but half-a-dozen characters being basically mandatory, but at least I had some entertainment out of that one. But I presume a switch release will at least have normal sized maps, so if they don't roll out an overly exploitative DLC model, it could be ok.
@@bificommander7472 I played on an 8-9in tablet - much easier to appreciate the art :) Maps were still tiny, from a gameplay POV, but adjusting the difficulty layered in moderate strategy potential. Really, the gacha-for-money aspect was the only thing I didn't like - otherwise, while it's a bit simplified for old-hats, it's a great intro for beginners, esp folks curious from other FE crossover appearances.
I'm on the fence about like I was with the Let's Go Pokemon games. I grew to love those. I almost hope this game forgoes the multiclass system in favor of a more Sacred Stones like system.
Ok graphically the game looks really good, but that's all I'm gonna say that's good about it. This just feels like pure fan service. This trailer looks as if it was DLC for an already existing game
Considering the hero mechanic, maybe the final boss will have a power that uses villains instead, so you have to have certain heroes to counteract different bosses. For instance fighting Gharnef might require a hero with Starlight, or Grima someone with the Falchion.

Adding the older cast to make more people interested in the older series for potential future remakes/rerelease is a good idea I just hope the older characters don't intrude on the story too much .
Bro some of those games are 20+ years old and not avaliable in oficial hardware. Out of these the most recent ones are Ike and Celica, Radiant Dawn is 15 years old, how are new fans supposed to be hyped about most of them I have no idea. It's not like they'll be remastering the 6+ JRPGs you would need to play to know most of them any time soon anyway given that it took them several years to do SoV. This is even worse if Square Enix expected people to be hyped over including Terra on Final Fantasy 16, most fans won't know who she is.
I don't know how to feel about this, it definitely looks good but... there's nothing in the trailer that interests me the same way Three Houses did on its first trailer. It seems to have a "classic" pre-Awakening storyline and it pains me to think that the biggest selling point is seeing legacy characters.
As excited as I am for a new FE game, I feel like there’s no way this could match 3 Houses. That game was all about gray morality and who is right vs who is wrong being merely a matter of perspective. I loved it. This looks like it’s going back to the traditional FE “good vs evil,” which can be good, but I enjoy stories with subjective morality better, at least for FE.
TBF after both Fates and Three Houses having the "morally grey, multiple routes" gimmick, having a more traditional good guys-bad guys fanservice-fest entry could be a good palate cleanser.
I saw MC and I couldn't help but question what they're up to. I was skeptical but I think they may have nailed it with this spirit summon system in place of the pairing up systems of before. Love the increased expressiveness in the combat/idle animations and cut scenes. I have high hopes for this one, can't wait!
Honestly, I get the feeling they are going to use the hero summoning mechanic as an excuse to sell new heroes as DLC. I really am skeptical after FE Heroes which it seems this game is drawing a lot from.
@@thenecromancer8805 There’s a lot of ways that could go, I wouldn’t be opposed to having characters and a story arc for them as dlc. Not sure why they would just use the characters though, they have FE heroes to do the dirty work and it’s not like this is the first game since the release of heroes, it’s made to be fed content from the main series.
True. Having all these old characters, while cool for nostalgia, shouldn't take priority over brand new characters and the overall quality of the game's story and writing.
I would like to see more of the story first, not just alot of battle scenes. After thinking about it today and rewatching the trailer, I like the idea of the characters having a connection to a hero from the past. I just want to learn more about it.
Can we have a non dragon villain? We had Medeus, Duma, Medeus again, Loptr but through Julius, we had a mage in Thracia, Idunn (aka worst final boss), the Scouring dragon in FE7, Fomortiis aint a dragon but still a dark monstrous deity, Tellius had a tyrant and a goddess which is different from the rest of the majority, and I like it, we had Grima and Anankos, and we had Hegemon Edelgard and Inmaculate Rhea in two routes, oh she also was final boss twice in Three Hopes, and I know that we had another fell dragon in og Warriors, srsly, too many fell dragons
I'm tentatively excited for this. I'm always ready for more Fire Emblem. This almost feels too much like them trying to merge Heroes with the mainline games which could go either way for me. I like both as they are I'm just a little iffy on the combing aspect. I kind of thougth the title was a joke on the whole marriage mechanics of Awakening/Fates/KindaThreeHouses which fair its kinda funny.
No because I have the same feelings. I can see potential and I know Fire Emblem has a basic formula- but it feels like it's somehow copying its own games even more than usual. This is like if Warriors, Mirage Sessions, and Heroes had a love child idk. I'm excited cause hey new Fire Emblem but I also am kind of iffy. Something just *feels* off. @@airakorainies so true. I honestly really loved three houses bc of how much content and replayability there was, and I'm really hoping that this new game will be like that... But we'll see I suppose
it looks to me like this game is going to be a return to the "ds era" type fire emblem with a lot less complicated systems around unit building. note how most of the skills are tied to the rings, I feel like this game is very much so going to be a casual experience and a good entry point to the franchise. though I am fearful of this games reliance on fan service of prior characters, it makes me feel like Intelligent systems is trying to cash in on Fire emblem heroes success and as such the story will take a massive hit to its depth.
@@Pikamarmot Considering the Fell Dragon mentioned isn't Grima, it doesn't take place in the main universe, meaning most of the series is completely unaffected

@@evilmar2363 to be fair he's the poster child for the series. You can't really have a game that uses heroes from the past and not include Marth. @@Adeams since does a Mary Sue has a specific look. They physically look like very generic lords if you asked me, it’s just that their colors are a lot more vibrant than any previous avatars.

There's only one character design that's offputting to me. Unfortunately, it looks like it's the MC. I don't know if the dual hair is some plot-relevant stuff with a redhead channeling Marth, but I sincerely hope there's an alternate costume that changes it.
Aside from what appears to be some unchangeable features on the new protag, I think this looks incredible so far. If the biggest gripe when it comes out is the protagonist's hair color, I'd say it's an absolute win.
@@pros_0143 Its the clashing aspect. Two highly saturated colors that are such opposites both taking up equal amounts in a character design can confuse the brain, also causing things like headaches. As a massive fan of Fire Emblem, I'm a bit concerned about this one. Every game has amazing stories met by cool original characters... why are we dealing with past characters? It feels like Gatcha without the gatcha
Because the shout-outs to past chars was really cool in Heroes, and not everyone likes gacha mechanics. I enjoyed Heroes, but had to permaquit as I felt it tugging harder on my wallet than I liked. Also, folks are saying this was supposed to be our anniversary Fire Emblem game, delayed due to Covid, so makes sense to lean hard into the fanservice.
My main worry are the ring mechanics, is this the gacha element???😨 I hope they don’t go that route, this isn’t a mobile game 😭 That will kill potentially kill the franchise
My thoughts exactly. I've always adored Fire Emblem and it's stories, having a game based on summoning/using the spirits of old characters feels weird to me. But it also just depends on the story reasons too, I want to see why the spirits are summonable and would love if there was some deep lore explaining why. So I'm definitely going to give it a shot, I just hope it isn't pure fanservice and the new characters are given the spotlight they deserve.
I understand the title of Engage, is to enter combat. But I also love the implication of BEING Engaged, with both immersion and potential S Supports (marriage) due to the ring 💍 mechanic.
Note to all legendary fantasy heroes. Don't seal any ancient evils if more permanent options are available. If sealing appears to be the only immediate solution, start using your legendary powers and knowledge to devise ways to permanently deal with the evil the second you are done sealing. If you need some inspiration to get started, imagine ways a distant descendant of you with who might stumble onto your special sword could train to permanently defeat the evil. Then think of how you, with that same sword, same lineage, but all your knowledge, experience and power, could do the same.
I hope we get to see the other Lords than just the ones featured in the mural. If Lyn is there would that mean Eliwood and Hector will be there too? Does Byleth's presence also include the other Lords? Does Sigurd have Deirdre accompany him? Leif and Seliph? Eirika and Ephraim?
Utterly insane to me how you have all the main characters from every game at 0:06, and then there's Ike in his Brave outfit from the first Choose your Heroes event from FEH. He's even wielding Urvan! I wonder if there will be more Heroes alts in the game, would be pretty cool!
Never before has a game dared to ask “What if all our favorite FE Lords were stands?” Except, of course, for when they did exactly that in TMS. Still super excited!
@@ZytenEspada I think they consider TMS to be canon FE still, don't they? It's in Cipher and Feh, that's more than other FE media has. I actually really liked TMS, but I'm definitely a bigger fan of FE than SMT so I will like this much better. The Pop Star Garbage was only fun during a couple of the performances and occasionally during fights, for the most part the bland protagonist was too bland even for me... In unrelated news, this map kinda reminds me of Valkyria Chronicles, with it's layout and color scheme.
So conflicted and confused by this.... Graphics, battle animations, dynamic maps look amazing! But story and again a reliance on old characters make me nervous.... especially after the amazing Universe of Three Houses. I honestly hope another mainline entry is being developed next to this one.

Honestly, the animation looks a lot like the style in Awakening and Fates (I think that studio also does the CG trailers for Heroes). Makes me wonder if they switched back to that studio for the mainline games, or if the new studio is just replicating the style.

I bet this game was meant for their 30th anniversary release but the big covid happened and probably pushed everything back. So it would make sense for them to bring back summoning heroes since it's celebrating the series like FEH is but there's no gacha and microtransactions, and there's an actual game lmao. I think this game will be very fun.
I wouldn’t be surprised if they “Enhanced” the game trailer like they did for Three Houses and it comes out looking and running just as poorly as Three Houses. At least the art direction could make some things look nicer I guess, but we will have to wait and see.

If you need some inspiration to get started, imagine ways a distant descendant of you with who might stumble onto your special sword could train to permanently defeat the evil. Then think of how you, with that same sword, same lineage, but all your knowledge, experience and power, could do the same.
@@deckardshaw6696 Can we at least make it a demon lord like in sacred stones or another literal god like in tellius.

I wonder if there will be female byleth? The mural showed male byleth so 🤔
Probably DLC
Also hope my boy ALM makes it in
Dude, just look at circle at first seconds of video.
Honestly, the map design, gameplay, animation and graphic looks better than in Three Houses. The plot and art style on the other hand...
Fire Emblem Engage is officially one of the most wanted 2023 games I want to own for my Nintendo Switch. 🔥⚔🛡🏹
Utterly insane to me how you have all the main characters from every game at 0:06, and then there's Ike in his Brave outfit from the first Choose your Heroes event from FEH. He's even wielding Urvan! I wonder if there will be more Heroes alts in the game, would be pretty cool!
Yes, I love this soo much. Glad to see he might join with Urvan
Lucinda I think was using a bow too in the art.
@@dantemustdie00 She was, with a mask as well
I have no idea what you just said lol
But Celica was shown with a sword, even though she seems to be using magic at 2:37
Never before has a game dared to ask “What if all our favorite FE Lords were stands?”
Except, of course, for when they did exactly that in TMS. Still super excited!
And tms wasn’t even Fire Emblem characters.
This is just essentially a better TMS without all the elements of SMT and pop star garbage.
@@ZytenEspada but TMS gives us the meme fire emblem song
@@illialidur8244 only heroes does. If that was the case they’d be on the mural.
@@ZytenEspada so does Cipher. Also Al isn't on the mural, and I'll fight for my boy's canonicity to the death
So conflicted and confused by this.... Graphics, battle animations, dynamic maps look amazing! But story and again a reliance on old characters make me nervous.... especially after the amazing Universe of Three Houses. I honestly hope another mainline entry is being developed next to this one.
Amazing universe? The world building of three houses was a complete clusterfuck
I'm so glad celica got into the game, I really love fire emblem shadows of valentia.
The animations in this are so, so pretty. What an improvement over Three Houses .
As they should. We wouldn’t want them going backwards.
@@yeetskeet3 heard this in Edelgard’s voice
I suspect removing the militias may help a lot in this regard, although I did enjoy it looking like an actual battle and not 10 v 20 for the fate of the world... 🤣
They're a lot better, but I noticed a lot of snapping into place at 1:43 (enemy soldier snaps into place to attack) and at 1:48 with the jaigan character.
@@AH-ve3ys The past heroes essentially take the place of Battalions (and Pair Up before it), and frankly while a bit silly they're much, much more interesting.

This looks like a loveletter to the series as a whole, while the designs look a little weird I love what we have seen so far
A divine dragon with the power of multiple legendary human heroes at his fingertips sounds pretty op, honestly. This game looks great so far!
Corrin called to remind that Corrin is also a divine dragon
@@JacobNintendoNerd99 I called IS to remind them that Fates doesn't exist
@@JacobNintendoNerd99 Yep.
@@JacobNintendoNerd99 corrin doesn't count, yes they are a dragon but the fact they are dragon is irrelevant to the plot, unlike here.
@@DraceEmpressa The fact Corrin is Anankos's child makes up like at least 20% of the plot and is sort of the crux behind why they even have Yato in the first place or why they're da big redeemer or anything
But also keep in mind that Corrin is shown in this trailer using primarily her dragonstone and just ignoring Yato
3:00 great art!!! Love it!
Hardcore FE fan here. I'm open to fire emblem always, I just really hope this isn't yet another "1000 years later, evil dude tries to revive demon, and succeeds in the final level"
How about, you manage to stop him and he fails to revive it, so you personally revive it to kill it just for funsies?
@@reiswindy Ha that would at least be more original
What a way to capitalize off of Fire Emblem's long history, excited to see how deep the concept goes.

Maybe! Lol! 🤣
Fire Emblem has come so far. It is now used as a Direct opener really happy for it.
The combat animations looks so good!
Not a fan of the main’s hair too much but I do love the female’s outfit right off the bat in the ending picture compared to female Byleth’s which took a bit to grow on me.
Nothing says anime quite giving the male version of the protagonist armor and the female version of the protagonist a weird skirt nonsense outfit suctioned to her chest. But yes, at least there isn't the world's worst pair of leggings this time.
Prequel: Fire Emblem Engage
Sequel: Fire Emblem Divorce
Is this only me or does this game look a good chunk cleaner than Three Houses? The Animation looks fluid, I like it.
Honestly, the animation looks a lot like the style in Awakening and Fates (I think that studio also does the CG trailers for Heroes). Makes me wonder if they switched back to that studio for the mainline games, or if the new studio is just replicating the style.
It's better but there's a lot of snapping, but it does look nicer still at least.

If Micaiah and Ike get voice acting, I’m buying the game for that alone. Also really happy to see IS acknowledge the more obscure FE lords.
They already have voice actors in Heroes so they should be!
Micaiah and Ike both have voices in Heroes (Veronica Taylor and Greg Chun), so it's very likely they'll use that cast!

Long was the day we used to have to wait a year longer than Japan to get a new Fire Emblem game haha. I'm purely satisfied.
Admittedly not big on the pepsi colored design or the concept of basically bringing in the Heroes mechanic of summoning, but I will reserve final judgement until the game is out. For all I know it could be amazing.
If MC there is a Divine Dragon though I will fight for them to have green hair. Its a rule
Lol!!"Pepsi colored design!"🤣🤣🤣. The main character does look like a Pepsi drink mascot.

Our next Smash character in a few years, folks.
Noah from Xenoblade 3 will get in first.
This is literally Fire Emblem Heroes on diet when it comes to the Heroes from others titles.
Ppl need to remember - when three houses came out with its first trailer - a lot of ppl were ohhhh so is its just fire emblem meets school? Then we got the time skip trailer and it blew up - I think this one is going to be really good (Fingers crossed) - I just want to be able to summon my fav lord Lyndis - she rocks!!
Yeah, everything we loved about it hadn't been shown yet. Let's wait until the next trailer to make concrete opinions. I am also excited for it and love the optimistic feel its art gives off.
Rather sharp visuals for a switch title... thats gonna be refreshing. Im so used to blurry anti aliasing, and low res, so this is gonna be quite the ride.
Been watching Directs in hope for a new mainline Fire Emblem for a while now. Imagine my surprise when they opened with it! Amazing! So excited to learn more about this game -and toothpaste-chan-

@@sonicgalaxy27 The new Smash game is gonna be a few years after their new console. By that time, there'll be another new Fire Emblem title.

Ew
Considering they need to cater to other weapon types it only falls to Hector, Ike, and Edelgard. So Camilla would be a welcome addition.
This legit looks like it's a mobile game that they just decided to refine into a full title.

There's gonna be NO polish.
I wouldn’t be surprised if they “Enhanced” the game trailer like they did for Three Houses and it comes out looking and running just as poorly as Three Houses. At least the art direction could make some things look nicer I guess, but we will have to wait and see.
Wait, that was the real lead character design? Back when it leaked I thought for sure it was fake because I didn't think they could design something that bad.
