Great video as always. As a Greek person, I think I should explain περίπου. First of all, it is pronounced peripu and not repiru. Second, it means "About" and not "I am". I'm not sure if the investigators found that out, though they put both translations on the video title (11:00). By the way, Dimitrios Dingas (14:21), as you probably guessed, is a Greek name. I'm gonna be honest, I haven't watched this video again after the first time because that one picture of what seemed to be an altered version of some sort of animal stuck with me. I was aware of the thread before Muta posted this video and I was genuinely confident I knew all about it, but as soon as the pic popped up on the screen I almost froze. Funny story about this topic. Around 2015~2016, a thread talking about this particular thread showed up on /b/ and I was curious enough to browse through it. It had a fair amount of posters discussing it and posting about it, and one of them ended up sharing some shitty /x/ tier made up pasta, saying he had been haunted by this. It was late at night when they were posting about this and later on I ended up going to bed. The next day I nearly shat my pants when I was casually going about my computer business and found the "I AM GOD" face image in my Downloads folder. Immediately deleted the picture, got up and left my computer be for a good 15 minutes. I got SPOOKED.
What probably happened: At the time I used to lurk on /b/ looking for cool images and memes to download and, while sleepy, I must've downloaded that image by mistake.

More so that those IoT devices are just a really dumb idea. Does having a fridge that runs Version 2.27-3.4 of the Linux Kernel sound good to you? Note that those versions are from the years 2009-2014. The vendors STILL rarely patch any exploits for those kernels that don't already have patches available. And there are plenty of well known exploits that don't get patches simply because they aren't supported by the mainline kernel devs anymore.
Not to mention any administration panel or similar way of configuring settings from another device are poorly written. It costs a significant amount of money to pay a security company to audit code. Most companies that make "smart home devices" don't really care about how solid or actually useful their products are. They care about adding a bundle of useless features that seem useful at first glance to get dumbasses to buy their shit. All of this plays out nicely for companies that want you to PAY them to collect your private info, and for anyone who needs a residential proxy to do shady shit. You wanna know how easy it is for someone from another zip code to use your smart lightbulb as a proxy for malicious traffic? about as easy as it was to use someones router that had remote administration features enabled by default like 3-4 years ago.

I think this story was made to create a sense of vulnerability to those who come across it, as though they’re susceptible, similarly to “the ring”. Also it’s a combination of threats; haunting and malware. And typically op disappears so there’s no explanation given, which leaves it unresolved as though it lives on...
