    Many decades ago, the USAF used the AGM-78 Standard Anti-Radiation Missile(ARM) and tested the XAIM-97 Seekbat, a derivative of the Standard. Both to be launched from fighter and attack aircraft. The SM-6 is a descendant of the Standard Missile. So this is very probable, but how likely would it really be?

      @@grimreapers BTW, PAC3 is 10 inches in diameter, 17 feet long, and about 700 pounds. Has been fired from an F15 before.
      Edit: also the PAC3 doesn't have a warhead, it's kinetic energy "only" so direct hit-to-kill.
      Has a small lethality enhancer (shrapnel charge) for larger air breathing targets.
      Super maneuverable with the ACMs (attitude control motors) which are the solid rocket engines in the neck. Nothing can dodge it.
      It's also hypersonic (mach 5+), and it's already supersonic by the time it leaves the launcher.
      All public info available from Lockheed demo videos which go into way more detail.

    Apparently, Russia has moved one of its Su-57 Felons to Crimea with an escort of three Su-35s. Could y’all construct an intercept battle on the side of Ukraine, NATO, Turkey, or some other opponent to try and take down the Felon before it can land at an airbase? I feel like it’d be a little bit of a challenge, especially if using non stealth fighters and would probably make a cool video

    • @logansorenssen
      @logansorenssen Месяц назад

      @@AEFisch The VLS configuration for SM-6 has a big-ass rocket booster attached, yes. SM-2 doesn't (except Block IV). Not a cold-launch system like S-400 where a pancake motor lobs the missile out of the tube and gives it the first 100m/s or so of velocity before the main rocket ignites, though - Mk 41 is a hot-launch system (as is SYLVER), where the rocket booster ignites while still in the cell.
      There's actually a case to be made for calling the air-launched version here an air-launched SM-2 Block IIIc instead of SM-6. Though it probably makes things cleaner if they designate it AIM-174A instead of AIM-66something - there were earlier air-launched Standard variants like the Standard ARM and Seekbat.

    VX-9 is still testing slinging the SM-6 on the Hornet. See Naval News for early June 2024. In that article, they make a good leap regarding the SM-6 needing X band telemetry which could be provided by something else downrange. Hornet would be a missile truck and then go home.

    Just remembered this thought I've had for a while. Does the 515 taking off in the lead with afterburner help the planes behind them take off shorter? The more air over the wings add lift, and the F15 is pushing a lot of air over the wings of the planes behind it.

    • @markredacted8547
      @markredacted8547 Месяц назад +3

      No, it hinders any aircraft behind due to wake turbulence (disrupts air-flow over the wings, minimising the amount of preferable undisturbed air), in civilian aviation aircraft wait a minute behind similar sized aircraft and 2 min behind larger aircraft before they take off to give the wake turbulence time to dissipate. Being fighter jets they create less wake turbulence so the effect is diminished yet still present so spacing is still used for maintaining a safe distance. You will see exceptions (aerobatics teams) blue angels, Thunderbirds etc. train to fly in turbulence, but it is not the norm, (wake turb = less lift = longer take-off run). 😉

      @grimreapers  Месяц назад +2

      ^^ great explanation!

    • @nathanellis3111
      @nathanellis3111 16 дней назад

      @markredacted8547 I get there would be a lot of turbulence. A ton more for civilian aircraft. A little Cessna in a strong wind can get airborne though, and there is a ton of turbulence.
      I'm guessing it would come down to wind speed, weight, aerodynamics, turbulence etc.

    • @nathanellis3111
      @nathanellis3111 16 дней назад

      @grimreapers Yo Cap. Hope you're feeling better. Youre soundong good. Maybe you could test this somehow in DCS? Turn on hurricane force winds and do a standing start.

    • @markredacted8547

      @@nathanellis3111 Different wing types generate different vortices behind them, most aircraft civilian and military aircraft think 737, 777, A320, F16, F15 rotate (take-off) around the same speed with an average of 157kn (180mph/290kph) depending on load-out etc. The only difference being the drag and vortices behind the aircraft causing turbulent air. Also keep in mind turbulence is relevant, I am not exactly sure why you assume the Cessna experiences more turbulence? maybe I misunderstand you, but that same turbulence is felt on every aircraft it is just felt differently due to the engineering design of the aircraft and how it manipulates the air around itself. A Cessna will feel a roll for example that you have to counter with rudders due to the propeller rotating air which spirals across the surface of the body where it makes contact eventually on the left side (facing forward) of the rudder, (pilots pov, prop spins clockwise, this air will make contact with the left side of the rudder which pilot corrects with right foot forward on the yaw peddle straightening the aircraft, in a jet, air is thrusted equally backwards and no yaw is required to correct excluding cross wind, the only air impacting the front of the jet is caused by momentum it's designed to be slippery (kind of) as this just opens up more about connected vs disconnected airflow. in this example alone I hopefully show how although both planes may look similar they are designed to interact with the air differently. My recommendation look up a book called "Understanding Flight" (David W. Anderson & Scott Eberhardt) it is a great book on how flight works as well as explaining wing design and it's interactions with the air. Sorry for the long message I didn't want to just put the book info in and say "do research" as that would be rude, so I put some ideas I think might help you understand airflow, without being able to draw pictures it is a little difficult but hopefully my memory of aerodynamics in aviation isn't too broken and I helped in some way. 😉

    Have you seen the figures for a high lob boost cruise profile for the Meteor, especially the projected figures for the Japanese version which will have the AESA seeker and the new anti radar software update. Realistic ranges against a big slow target forgoing the final boost intercept mode are crazy long and I mean crazy. There is also the boosted Meteor model using a version of the ASTER booster for air long and the figures are just silly. Saying nothing that isn't in the PD if you burrow.

I wonder if you could mount it on an airborne platform to kill a satellite!!

    With fuel reserves, being so mission critical, why wouldn’t the first bird lunched be a tanker, so that the planes could be refueled somewhere closer to the target just enough to top them off. Wouldn’t there already be a tanker flying, if tensions were high, just to make such a mission possible and more safe?
    Why not launch the slower birds first, so they could fly in a more fuel efficient manor, then let the faster bird catch up?
    With just a little bit more planning, this mission would be a lot easier.

    This is cool, I like it, but he fact being left out. Is we don’t feel the need for a dedicated missile to do this. As the only true super power. What does that say? We already can. With existing missiles and aircraft/drones. Deal with this problem of enemy limited awacs, and is zero issue to do so/naval ships and missiles. Everyone knows what we release is already 2 plus decades old at least. And we could do it 20-50 years earlier even if at horrific cost.

    And why aren’t you doing a ballistic climb until the engines flame out like when we shot down our own satellite footing the Cold War. To prove to Soviets we can shoot down theirs too? F-15’s can do more than Mach 2.05 of pushed to absolute limit of failure, stepped down a few percentage. Also they don’t flame out at high speed until like 70k plus feet, they are damn near space fighters. Literally. Give them 2-3 stages of JATO’s, and lox
    For aux tanks, they could be space fighters. Literally that’s the funny part and they could still carry their normal air to air compliment of weapons. And be straight up low endurance space fighters: with a couple orbits max.

    "keep ahead of the F-15" only in DCS and IRL mission breifings, if sent alone that thing would just melt away even tho everything china has for "modern fighters" are nothing more than cheap imitations of russian garbage (they have nothing but 3rd, 4th, and 4.2nd gens), the J-20 is the closest they will ever get to a US built fighter but even that is TRASH (hence why im calling it a 4.2nd gen) so your attention to realism is unmatched and makes for sime interesting stuff! keep up the great work and maybe someday we will have that final standoff and see who has the superior firepower in the East China Sea! *now where did i park my star dreadnought*

    wait. why you guys use DCS for current political tension simulations? i dont get it really. if some china channel did the same id react in the same manner. this isnt righ nor fits DCS comunity guidelines. you should stay away from this kind of DCS content. its inpropriate torwards chinese DCS players at last. simulate nuke impact on Britain using channel map or something gross. Id mind that too. youre sinking in my eyes guys. use some other software if you like but you just provoke low level efforts here. im shielding my DCS part from this.
