Another little tip for making the cake extra lemony, is to add the zest to the bowl of sugar first and mix it together using a fork. The sugar helps extract the lemon oil from the zest and seep into the sugar, making a beautiful lemon sugar! Do this about 5 x 10 mins before making the batter. X
among all of the cooking tutorial videos that i have seen, yours is the best simple, easy to understand, relaxing, no unnecessary noise and most importantly, tasty
Queen Victoria got her sponge, it’s about time Queen Elizabeth got hers, after 70 years, right?! Cue a new cake challenge for the cupcake Jemma team! This sponge cake looks amaaaaazing 🍰
I hope to try this for this Easter. I hope to cut the recipe in half as there are only two of us. Fingers crossed. Lemon has got to be one of the best fruit flavors in desserts. Yum
Not that I don't love all of the videos but when you appear on them it makes them special for me 'cause I've been following your channel and your recipees from a very long time ago🥺
I'm making this tomorrow morning, cant wait. I punch up the lemon with pure organic lemon oil from LorAnn. I like it more lemony than just a couple of Tbsp of lemon juice. It's 10x concentrate so it adds a ton of zing with very very little liquid.
I’m from GB but live abroad. Sad to be missing the celebrations but living vicariously through friends and family. Maybe I’ll console myself by making this this weekend. 😅
i followed this recipe about two weeks ago, it turned out very well well, the bottoms came off and we had to eat them upside down, but they tasted great
Thank you Jemma for another lovely recipe....we are having a street party on Sunday and was going to make a victoria sponge with strawberries, blueberries and raspberries....but you have just changed my mind and I am going to make this delicious cake instead....have a great weekend x
Looks delish!! Quick question, how do we adjust your New York cheesecake recipe for a 6 inch pan? Plus, how can I adjust the timings accordingly? I really wanttt to try it
Another awesome recipe! 😍😋❤️Can you please show us how to make a treacle tart with cornflakes topping? It was my favorite childhood memory from boarding school, but I couldn’t find a recipe that I like unfortunately 😩 THANKS!
I totally agreed with what you said about the winning jubilee trifle and there was no way I was going to attempt. I made your cake version today and it turned out so well, minus not being able to get them out of the tins because I did not line as advised not to😅, but other than that, its a winner so thank you for the recipe. its what I was looking for I hope my guests will love it tomorrow. 🎉
Goodness I can't wait to make this one! Jemma can you give me some info on your fabulous new range? Maybe that was an episode I didn't watch yet. Thanks!
How far in advance can you make this Jemma seeing as it’s fresh cream? Like if you made it in the morning for the afternoon or should I say assemble it, the cream won’t have run out of it by the afternoon??
It looks so good, will have to make this. But would appreciate it if someone could answer a question. When I make a cake it never comes out flat like this one, mine always slopes up in the middle so what am I doing wrong?
@@margaretmetcalfe9380 It's not uncommon for an oven's dials to not be a super-accurate measure of the oven's actual temperature. I agree with Jemma, it sounds like the oven is a bit too hot, so the cake cooks too fast like a volcano in the middle. Try lowering the temperature by 10cC first and then if it's still no better, another 10cC the next time. Better still, invest in an oven temperature gauge device, you can get them from specialist kitchen stores or online no doubt.
I just finished making a double batch of brownies with an Oreo/chocolate sandwich cookie crust. Taking some to a BBQ tonight and some to my friends who recently had a baby tomorrow! This Californian will be following the Jubilee festivities on social media though!
Okay, you just blew my mind. I didn't think those 2 flavors would go together so well 😋 Your curd is really thick which is how I like it and your cream? Not only did I not think it was going to stay between those 2 thick layers of sponge. I didn't think you were going to be able to pipe it. Great job Gemma 👏 I have everything to make this but the biscuits and liquor but I do have almond extract so, lol. Hmm, might just have to bake it up for the weekend. Thanks for the tip about the egg yolks and sugar. Learn something new every day. Have a great/safe weekend... 🎈🎉🎈
Yeah, if you’ve ever made a simple sponge and ended up with little orange bits dotted through it, it’s likely that the eggs sat with the sugar for too long. It’s more a curing than a cooking tbh
@@CupcakeJemma tbh I ruined couple of pastries this way, not knowing the reason behind it. 🤦 Will definitely pay attention to it from now on 🤠 Ty again 🙂

I love the idea of adding almond extract to the whipped cream but how much would you add? I know it can be very strong.
