Watch the live version from their "Live At The Rainbow 1974" concert - it's so cool. Each band member gets their individual time to shine!
And no synthsizers! This line appeared on every Queen album up to The Game.
You should watch the live version from The Rainbow 1974 absolutely brilliant showcases the whole band xx
Liar - by Freddie
John: Bass
Brian: Backing vocals, electric and acoustic guitars
Freddie: Hammond organ, lead and backing vocals
Roger: Backing vocals, tambourine and drums
Liar was my favorite from the album. It varies on certain days since I am a harmony junkie! I do love My Fairy King though. Thanks for the reaction! I am glad you are enjoying your journey.
I can't answer the question - which of all Queen songs is my favorite... But Liar, OMG, always gives me goosebumps. Especially when the bass solo starts. Thanks for your reaction!
This is the 2nd best Queen song after Bohemian Rhapsody. The way this song switches and changes several times is awesome. Everyone in the group had their moment in this song, especially that bass by John. Taking into account this is from Queen's debut album, you can already tell how much better and diverse they'd become. If this song was remixed & remastered it would sound better but I like the rawness of the original.
Definitely my favorite from the album.
Justin, it is so great to see you discovering early Queen. I respect your comments about the evolution of this band and am enjoying how attuned you are to their earlier, more experimental work. I love this song - it shows this band's versatility and musical chops. It is an exquisitely composed song. As you said in your opening comments, this song was a staple in their early concert tours...they were mainly performing in small venues. When they eventually landed gigs at the prestigious "Rainbow" and "Hammersmith - Odeon" venues, it was a HUGE step for them. If you have the time or the inclination - regardless of whether you wish to react to it - you might want to see/hear this song performed LIVE at the Rainbow, 1974 - the longer version is 8.45 minutes long on the channel Ilton White which, imo, has the best audio and visuals. How these 4 guys brought this song to the stage is really AMAZING. As Freddie said in an early interview - they knew right from the start what music was inside each of them and ALL of them were unified in their vision of what they could become - they just needed people to actually hear and see them. Enjoy your journey....I'm definitely along for the ride. Thank you for your reaction.
An awesome comment, nicely said. I too think Live version must be checked out for sure 👍
Such a great time. Deacons bass playing on those Queen albums was impeccable. They gave a whole new meaning to the word multi layered lol.
Also after finishing this record dont forget about the song they droped out - Mad The Swine!
Loved this ...I think this for me is my favourite Queen reaction from you. Their first five albums are great, then followed by Innuendo and the rest are good, Hot Space is "Ahem ...next please"
I highly recommend the live version at the Rainbow. 🌈 it’s one of my favorite performances! IMO, the lyrics could reflect some not-so-good experiences Freddie had at Boarding School. Lyric that are a scathing rebuke of a former comrade, who Freddie accuses of being deceitful, manipulative, & immoral .. “L I A R”
Glad to see you’re enjoying Queen’s debut. Fantastic group of musicians. Not sure why anyone would advise you to skip it. Digging the channel. 10:47
Great reaction … but you would LOVE the video of this ✌🏼☺️
Finally-someone giving some love to early Queen! THANK YOU!!! If Queen had never done anything after Queen II, they would still be absolute faves of mine.
Queen II really is a must to see the leap in progression on their second album.
You'll love my favorite Queen album Shear Heart Attack. It still has the raw energy of the 1st album.
Still my favorite Queen album!
Please do a Queen studio album discography. We'll wroth the time
"so now you know you could be dead before they listen" Prophetic. 32 years after his passing Freddie Mercury is move loved, included and remembered.
It's clear that punk drew some inspiration from Brian May's guitar in this track
My favorite Queen song! The live at the Rainbow 74 is one of the best recordings. There are some great BBC recordings also. Drums and solo are better.
Sound quality good for its time. They were totally broke. Had no money and only used the studio at night when it was available. Think how good it is for what they had.
It's the 70s and this comes out. No-one can question Queens' amazingness, end of I'm going home to learn how to play properly, how many musicians said that after seeing this live back in the day 🤘🤘😁
Ambitious is a good description from what I’m hearing so far. Yeah, it sounds like each song was mixed by different person.
Great song. The older Queen stuff is just awesome. I like most of their stuff, though.
Justin I wish I had a full head of hair! I did when Liar came out. Brilliant stuff. 🙏🍁
Love this song ❤
I love this song and I really love it live.
Now that you have heard and "seen" it in your head, know that the live version at the Rainbow is as good as it gets! Cracklin' good!
Yes brother this is the real Queen. Great yes? Man what a great song. Oh the next song is up, OOH RAH
Great to see you enjoying it so much! And yeah, genre labels aren't always that useful...
Fun. Raw. :) Rock it!
segue. pronounced segway. a transition from one topic or melody to another.
It would be cool if Steven Wilson would remix the first 2 Queen albums. Starting with their 3rd album, the sound quality is much better.
Agree that the 1974 Live at Rainbow is worth watching!
I'm sure that if we didn't lose Freddy, Queen, like Rush, would have been another band together for 40 years, and U2 has also reached that milestone, and if there's anything I've learned on this channel, it's that the songwriting is what matters - Freddie, Brian, and Bono are McCartney-level songwriters, imo... Rush, I think had some kind of "virtual McCartney" that emerged from the way the 3 of them worked together (and Geddy's perfectionism, in line with McCartney's...)
Killer song.
There are a number of different versions of LIAR about including the shortened single the 2011 remaster and the BBC sessions but in my opinion Justin has listened to the best version from the original album with all its flaws and somewhat murky production it is so much better than the computer generated fluff of todays so called music
As some have already suggested, before you move on after Queen 1, you should watch the Live At The Rainbow 1974" concert to see these songs live. The show is on the Queen Official RUclips www.youtube.com/@Queen/releases
