Last year we went to Madrid and Barcelona and we followed all your advice of menu del dia there and we enjoyed all the foods and the price were amazing! How is about the menú del dia in Lisbon and Porto? We are planing to go there this April 2024. Thank you so much for this wonderful video. 👏👏👏 Looking forward to watch your next videos about restaurant where to eat in Lisbon and Porto showing the reasonable price.
Hi Ana, Portuguese restaurants have an "ementa turística" that is not as complete as the Spanish "menú del día". Often it doesn't include neither the drinks, nor bread or desserts. Here's our recommendation of food in Lisbon ruclips.net/video/pbWaiVTx088/видео.html

@@ROADTRIPSpainandPortugal Happy we found your channel. You videos/content will be very useful to us during our trip to Spain and Portugal later this year. At this rate, I will likely watch all your videos before we travel there 😀. Thank you 🙏👏👏😀🍾
It's fun to watch how much we (in Slovakia) have in common with you. We also have a menu del dia offered in most restaurants during the working week, but we definitely can't beat your 3 course meal including wine (ah, that would be my dream here 😁 ). The menu del dia usually has here a soup instead of primer plato and then a standard segundo plato, which usually varies from restaurant to restaurant. Any desserts or coffee is already on top and needs to paid extra. With drinks it's variable - in some restaurants they're included in the fixed price, in some they're extra and have to be paid separately. Very nice vid - learned something new today. Gracias. 🙂
We were recently in your country (for the second time). Saw you local version of the menú del día. I always like to order halušky. Hope you make the most of our menú del día next time you visit Spain. All the best!
Hi Tony, your videos are fantastic. Thank you so much. I'm going to Sitges this weekend and would love some suggestions about places to eat on a modest budget. I have little experience of holiday towns, as I usually head for the cities, where it is easier to find restaurants where the locals eat. For me it's one of the greatest joys of travel. I realise you can't cover every town and city, but if you had any advice, I would be very grateful. Keep making your wonderful videos. Marge
Many thanks for your reply, Tony. I will work with the more general information you have provided. I just have two other questions. Is it possible to order a complete meal in a Tapas bar or must you go to a different sort of place? Also, I know how important olive oil is in Spanish cousine, but I can only eat very small amounts of it, due to digestion problems. Is it considered the height of bad manners to ask for a dish without oil (I'm not suggesting that a dish would be prepared separately). I'm referring to food where oil is added prior to serving, as on salad for example. Perhaps you could give me a phrase in Spanish, that I could use, which would express my apology for the request to omit the oil and my gratitude for so doing. Thank you so much. Marge
Hi Marge, here we explain how the tapas culture works: ruclips.net/video/AddLmFJXKTA/видео.html If you don't want olive oil, you could say "sin aceite de oliva, por favor", although depending on the preparation that request might be difficult to attend.
Thanks for this video! I will be in Barcelona for 5 days late May. Having looked at this video, looks like it's in my best interest to set aside lunch time. I find myself trying to pack too much especially for Barcelona because FOMO gets me. I even get by with one meal despite walking around fair bit - but looks like if I am going to have one meal, lunch might be it, not dinner (which is what I have done when travelling other countries).
We're really impressed with your videos and the depth of info you provide! This has probably been asked before, but I haven't seen it yet. What is the tipping etiquette at lunch, tapas, drinks and dinner?
Hello, I love your videos. I will be visiting Spain-Portugal in October so am following all your videos. Please can you tell me if we can share a menu del dia since I am a very light eater. I would love to taste all the good food though 😀. Thank You for the wonderful & detailed information in all your videos.
Carolyn, it depends on the restaurant, but it usually reduces the choices on the menu del día to just one course, usually the first course (or the main course). You get one course, drink and dessert. All the best!
Hi Tony, your videos are so helpful. My husband and I love good food but we are not big eaters. It looks like the Menu del Dia gives you very generous portions. Is it acceptable to share a plate in Spain?

My question to you is, as a reluctant senior we do not eat as much now that we are older, is it rude for just one person to order a meal and share it? What is the proper parodical for wanting small portions?
Hi Chris, sharing a "menu del día" is a definite no-no. If you don't eat much, then you order from the menu, you can always ask the waiter to have an idea of the size of the dishes. All the best!
Tony thank you so so much for your extremely helpful videos!! It is helping me so much to plan our trip to Barcelona! I wanted to ask a question regarding the etiquette around how late it is okay to show up to a restaurant before they are closing lunch service. What I mean is, if a restaurant serves lunch 2-4pm, what's the latest you can arrive to eat there? Is 3:30pm too late? Thank you!
Good question, closing time in most restaurants is nearer to 3:30 than 4. If you arrive near closing time you will make everyone feel uncomfortable. I would not arrive after 3:30. In any case, the guys at the restaurant will let you know if you are too late.
