I own a citroen xm 2nd series exclusive.
It has done 304656 km and hasnt had any real problems yet. It is 15 years old now and the only problem it had was a broken battery.
Yesterday i was driving 180 km/h easily through belgium. It is truly my favorite car.

These are great cars; I am now on my fifth! I have tried most varieties, the only one I haven't had a go at is the TCT turbo. My first XM was a non turbo 2 litre petrol, and while I changed it try one more powerful, it was actually quite adequate in performance; the power delivery was smooth and quiet in contrast to the smaller diesel, and it still deliverd mid thirties mpg and more on long runs.
Long runs do see these cars in their element, I actually prefer the lower spec velour upholstery to the more common leather, but all seats are fabulously comfortable. My current XM is a series 2 V6 and I love it - it does regular trips from the north east to the Cotswolds and last week I did 625 miles in two days (including two bites at the M25 car park) and actually enjoyed the journey. It was all done on one tank full of petrol at 33mpg.

Rob Brun I'm not a fan of four-pot petrol engines, in pretty much any car. For me, it's turbo diesel for economy, or V6 for the ultimate. They sound beautiful - as my other XM road test proves! ruclips.net/video/Wu-Sxjssg48/видео.html

ClassicHub David's car is very nice, I have been a back seat passenger in it, and even enjoyed that! Mine is not as lovely, but it is still great to drive with 150k on the clock. And you are right, in sport mode it really can go!

Some moons ago I did breakdowns on the M1 and I got called out to an XM (this is when they were new) which had broken down southbound M1 just north of J18. As it was brand new I just took it to the main dealer I Northampton but once there it would start and no fault could be found. However this happened a further 4 times in exactly the same place at the same time with the same results .. get to dealer car starts no faults. On the 5th time I took it just to Watford Gap as I had a theory and that was were it kept breaking down was by all the radio mast that used to be in that area and wondered if that had anything to do with it. So anyway at Watford Gap car would start. So told Citroen this who of course said no way that can't be it but needless to say owner was seriously fedup with it and insisted on having the car replaced which in the end they did. The owner called me a month later and said new car is fine so however strange my theory must have been correct.

PSA diesel in a transit van so I know what you mean about modern diesels - it was ridiculous, no torque at all until on boost when you got a huge wall of torque. I’ve not long replaced my Citroen Berlingo taxi which had 240,000 miles. A durable vehicle but the semi automatic clutch was horrible and the front suspension was made of straw. Years ago I worked for a small company and the boss swore by Citroens. I had a Xantia 1.9tdi, ZX Volcane 1.9tdi and Saxo 1.4 petrol as various company cars. All were brilliant..

Great video! Too bad these never made it to the USA. Any car that still earns accolades after reaching "beater" level must be a heckuva good car. Diesel powered cars are very rare in USA...bigger pick-up trucks mostly, with a few VWs and a handful of Mercedes. Too bad, diesel engines are so durable and make so much torque at low RPMs.

Steve Randall The XM was imported into the United States by CXA, a company that had imported several hundred CX25 GTi and Prestige model cars for Citroën loyalists in the USA. CxAuto presented the XM at the 1991 New York Motor Show, in the spring of 1991 and began converting and selling the XM Pallas (combined with the 2.0 injection engine) and the XM Vitesse (combined with the 3.0 V6 engine). In 1993, the XM Exclusive was added to the range. Unfortunately, the XM cost 40% more than the CX Prestige, with a price in excess of $50,000 and only a few examples were sold. As a result of newer, tougher US anti-pollution standards, the import of these cars ceased in 1997

your very lucky to get 45 from a 2.1, 40 yes and easy,. I used one for a taxi, and oddly they seem to use nothing sat idling in the cold weather, and seem to get as much in town as on a motorway, but hey i only ran one that way for 3 years, and used 2 of them as the first one gave up. the 3l is about 18mpg its terrible. the 2.5 is the best one to have for power/economy/drive ability, the 3l can get you upto 2x the limit and a little more.... the 2.1 maxes out at about 120-125, 2.5 untested. all of them (3l less so) are nose light and unstable above 120
