When a true talent dusts off an old standard like this it makes surfing You Tube worth the time. Black Coffee and "I've Been a Long Time Leavin'" are two prime examples that rise to the top. What a fresh new old adventure you and Josh have embarked upon. One can see how much fun you're having doing this. Go for it kids!
Same here. I am in love with this young lady's voice! I have a serious hearing deficit that causes me much pain at times so I listen to certain voice tones to overcome that and she is right on the money. Absolutely wonderful and soothing to listen to such a talent. I started (somehow...not sure how or why) listening to Reina Del Cid then came across Josh Turner and then she came up and I just happened to click on the video. I instantly loved it! This girl has it all.
Just keep in mind….maybe, maybe 5% of the current top 40 “artists” you hear on the radio simply could sit down on the sofa with an instrument and belt it out like this. Allison rules.
I'm feelin' mighty lonesome Haven't slept a wink I walk the floor from nine to four In between I drink Black coffee Love's a hand-me-down brew I'll never know a Sunday In this weekday room I'm talkin to the shadow One o'clock till four And Lord, how slow the moments go And all I do is pour Black coffee Since the blues caught my eye I'm hangin' out on Monday My Sunday dreams to dry Now man was born to go a lovin' But was a woman born to weep and fret And stay at home and tend her oven And down her past regrets In coffee and cigarettes I'm moonin' all the mornin' Moanin' all the night And in between it's nicotine And not much heart to fight Black coffee Feelin' low as the ground It's drivin' me crazy This thinkin' 'bout my baby Might maybe come around Come around
It's good to see 1950s in 2020s. Such a beautiful cover a 1948 song. I used to listen to that song every morning until I found your cover. So now I listen to this in most mornings.
I gotta say there's not many people who I can listen to and look at all day but you are.... Incredible talent, this is one of the rare occasions when the cover is better than the original! I discovered you during lock down when my daughter was born and doing the early morning feeds, sitting there in my rocking chair with her asleep on my shoulder watching the sun come up on the porch listening to you. Best days of my life.
Criminally underwatched and undersubscribed - wake up people! This here girl is the real deal. She sings me to sleep at night and makes my dreams sweeter than honey.
Just amazing...the look...the attitude....the music....and that remarkable voice....I don’t know how Josh gets lucky enough to know all these wonderful folk....but he has turned me on to more new artists than anyone since the early 70’s....and Allison has been breakin’ my heart since Crazy with Josh....
I absolutely love your voice, girl!!! If only there were more videos and songs of yours to watch and listen to! You've got it all, young lady and I hope you make it as big as you wanna get to be!
Your Talent is Incredible.. all the little voice inflections, and vibrato etc... you do them with such precision... and your Vocal range just blows me away at times.. just don't know how you can reach some of those low notes.. Sigh!!! Never get tired of your voice and ability!!! Never stop Please!!!!
Love! Love! Love! Love! Love! Love! Love! Love! Love! Love! Love! Love! Your voice, your style and everything about you is amazing. So happy you are doing more with PMJ and Josh Turner. You make this world a more fun and enjoyable.
Wow. Your voice is like sitting beside a warm fire in the dark, skimming the newspaper, listening to the crackling tunes on the radio. I'm home. La vie en rose, Can't Help Falling in Love, Ain't No Sunshine instantly come to mind. Can't wait for more.
I'm sitting here after listening to this song and all I can think to say is "WOW"... I agree, that you have a one in a million voice..I'll bet you can sing anything from this Jazz, to Rock, to Blues and back again.. with Josh behind you, you can take the right song to a million selling hit..!
Young lady .., You take me back to 1964 when I was 10 years old. While everyone else was listening to Elvis, Ricky Nelson and the Beatles, I was listening to Julie London, Peggy Lee and the Kingston Trio. Keep on keeping on!!! You keep singing; I’ll keep listening!!!!! Chuck Knight from Buffalo, Texas, USA. 🤠🐩👍🖖
Thank you Alison, that was done really well, but then again, you do everything really well. Love what you do and do what you love, that's Allison. That's why we love Allison.
Very cool! And it’s not just because I drink my coffee black 😏. Allison, I love to listen to your numerous styles - all of which you perform with integrity and grace. 😘 Happy holidays!
I just caught Allison on PMJ's "Mr Blue Sky" Loved her vocal treatment of the original. That being said, I loves me some blues! Her working "Black Coffee" is a respectful treatment of what to me is "sacred music." Have to find where Allison is LIVE and just GO!
I just love your voice Allison and you are definitely a star in the making if that's what you want to be. You can sing in any style whether it be pop, country, blues or jazz. You have a definite presence when you are singing and have charisma running through you like Blackpool rock. You may not know what that means but it is indeed a compliment. Someone with your talent gives me hope for the future and this is from an old geezer who will turn 70 this year.
Perfect. Just perfect. Thank you. I really dig your facial expressions while you play. You are it. Please post more. Do you play gigs? Or just youtube?
Good job. I uploaded an old Freddie Cole recording of it a few months back. I had never heard the song before and didn't know it was known by many people. Glad to hear another rendition of it.
Hi Alison thanks for the chance to hear your voice do another song justice, and for showing me that there is nothing wrong with my Fender acoustic’s sound, that it is obviously my playing that sucks😄👍 a prosperous new year to you all
I was glad for this to pop up. I so much love your music. What a beautiful voice. The lighting is perfect for this song. You are there, but not well lite.
I love your voice and your retro classic style. Not enough of it in the world today, at least not where I am! Beautiful song selection and you do a hell of a job singing. Hope someone picks you up for music in Nashville if they havent already.

Just caught you on Postmodern Jukebox. Loved you're PMJ cover of Mr. Blue Sky. You got what it takes for this song and Coffee! Awesome!
Allison’s voice is so pure and rich. She’s very remarkable and super special!
Just keep in mind….maybe, maybe 5% of the current top 40 “artists” you hear on the radio simply could sit down on the sofa with an instrument and belt it out like this. Allison rules.
I'm feelin' mighty lonesome
Haven't slept a wink

Love's a hand-me-down brew
I'll never know a Sunday
In this weekday room
I'm talkin to the shadow
One o'clock till four
And Lord, how slow the moments go
And all I do is pour
Black coffee
Since the blues caught my eye
I'm hangin' out on Monday
My Sunday dreams to dry
Now man was born to go a lovin'
But was a woman born to weep and fret
And stay at home and tend her oven
And down her past regrets
In coffee and cigarettes
I'm moonin' all the mornin'
Moanin' all the night
And in between it's nicotine
And not much heart to fight
Black coffee
Feelin' low as the ground
It's drivin' me crazy
This thinkin' 'bout my baby
Might maybe come around
Come around

Such a classy young lady with a one in a million voice!
Just realized I’ve been listening to Allison Young for 90 minutes now! What an amazing repertoire. Uplifting and soooo enjoyable.
90 minutes is a lot if you listen to 30-40 songs. But if it's just one song, you might want to seek some help ;)
I just found you today! What a voice! - guitar! - Uke! - the look! ... I’m hooked :-)
Every so often I have to hear this performance.... Its amazing.... :)
A terrific vocal performance with plenty of atmosphere to boot. I think you really felt this one. Can’t wait for the next one.
Didn't know this song.
Don't even wanna know the original.
This is more than enough.
Dont be stupid go and listen to ella
Peggy Lee's version is very good too.
Or listen to the original singer Sarah Vaughan
@@jrfashion29 what is an 'original' singer when someone else wrote the song?
@@fennarios I don't believe she wrote it but, she was the first person to originally sing and perform the song.
That was great.
Beautifully done.
Wow. Your voice is like sitting beside a warm fire in the dark, skimming the newspaper, listening to the crackling tunes on the radio. I'm home.
La vie en rose, Can't Help Falling in Love, Ain't No Sunshine instantly come to mind.
