Up until a couple months ago I had never heard the word Mudlarker. I started watching U-Tube and discovered you. I have become obsessed with your videos. Thank you for making my days special. I have learned so much about your country’s history.🌎
Nice job on the bowl. I would say it is Teak. Often used on ships. As to cracks, one can fill them with resin and then turn the bowl. Peter Brown- ShopTime- (on RUclips) has done some awesome bowls and such with resin filled cracks.
Just getting caught up on all the mudlarking videos. True appreciation of you as a person, and and artist, a historian, and well, all around good guy. truly enjoy the videos of most all of the mudlarking community.
You really found a diamond in the rough a with your driftwood bowl, Si. I was amazed at the beautiful color and grain. Just think of all the valuable hardwood laying in that mud.
1908 was a special year for us Aussies. It was when our coat of arms was granted, as found by you. It was also the year our nations capital was chosen, where I live. I love watching what you find. If I ever get back I hope they grant mudlarking permits to tourists.
@@Sifinds are you selling your wooden bowl? I'd love to give it a new home here in Spain!!! Please let me be first on the list to buy!! Thanks Si, love your videos xxx Chez in Lliria, Spain xx
Big fan of your channel, always excited to watch when you up load a new video, Especially like the Video s with Nicola. You guys make a great entertaining team.
Simon the bowl is great! Keep this kind of work going! Saving and repurposing the wood and goodies form the Thames keeps them alive and moving further through history.
Great video, the bowl is brilliant, the pipe is fabulous. One of our Aussie soldiers stopping off in London before heading off to war. Gave me goosebumps ✌️
Oh my goodness the bowl is absolutely beautiful! Is there anything you can't do😊 you are a true craftsman with mad skills! I must say it doesn't hurt that you're handsome with charming dimples! I love your videos never a dull moment! Be safe and healthy 😷Take Care!
Gosh I love your show. You are funny and kind and respectful and so knowledgeable which is wonderful. Love you Si , keep these shows coming and cheers from Australia x
The bowel is truly fabulous! Watching the entire process of you developing it was, for me, captivating. Embellishing it with the brass nails makes it look medieval, which I love. But having the coins in it gave it a great finishing touch! That is an absolute jewel to have in your collection of artifacts from the Thames. And I'd like to add, demonstrating all of your great skills using different tools and materials to clean up and 're-cycle' or 'up-cycle' the items from the Thames, I think inspires many of us artists to take our creativity a step further. Love your videos Simon!
Hi Si, the wood looks like Australian Jarrah, what a fabulous job you did making the bowl ❤️... love your videos found you via Nicola. Best wishes from an Aussie fan ☺️
Hi Simon ; the wood looks like Purple Heart used in ship building , check out “the Sampson boat company, Leo is rebuilding an old wooden boat the keel is of this wood !,
I marvel at the variety of creative endeavors you bring to each episode. What you're accomplishing here, without the aid of a production crew, is very impressive. Go, Mud Lover, go!
Simon, that bowl was absolutely spot on. Very nice work for an “amateur”. In the future you may think about epoxy resins to fill the cracks before you try the lathe. Thanks for the great vlog.....Steve
The wood could be jarrah or purpleheart. When you work any of those hard woods including oak and beech, wear a dust mask the dust is carcinogenic. Also cutting with the saw on the lathe like that could be very nasty if the blade snagged. Brass and copper ship's nail could make nice jewellery, get a plumber's Mapp torch and silver solder.
A lot of Jarrah was sent back to London to be used for street paving in the early 1800's. www.ianvisits.co.uk/blog/2015/01/10/the-time-when-londons-streets-were-paved-with-wood/
I have to say, that Victorian apothecary scales piece is incredible- How on earth did you figure that one out? And congrats on the wood-turning bowl! Not an easy skill to do that!
Wow, I've fallen in love with that bowl. Beautiful wood turned back to life and with that touch of the brass nails...beautiful design. I really love it, it wouldn't be the same if you had used brand new wood and nails. This one has magic, history and mistery
I thought the same until it was finished, I recon the grain to not close enough to be Red Gum. I've built furniture from old red gum fence posts. Perhaps it's Mahogany.
Great video Si. So that's where my pipe went 😁! What a beauty
nicola white mudlark - Tideline Art Haha. Thanks. I’m allowed one aren’t I? 😉
It would be really cool to see some nail earrings or necklace pendants! Perhaps you would even find coffin nails on the Thames.
Lovely, I'm 57 & still enjoy a nice bowl or 2 :)
WHAT A FIND, SO FAR FROM HOME, DIDN'T REALISE THERE WERE AUSSIE CLAY PIPES.
PROUD YOU HAVE A PART OF US WITH YOU SI.
CAMILLE AUSTRALIA 👋
Ever notice how much like the circle of life each of Si-Finds videos is? For every find there is a reason. Turn, turn, turn.

I love that you up-cycled a piece of discarded wood; and look how beautiful it ended up. Nicely done, Si!!
Nice job on the bowl. I would say it is Teak. Often used on ships.
As to cracks, one can fill them with resin and then turn the bowl.
Peter Brown- ShopTime- (on RUclips) has done some awesome bowls and such with resin filled cracks.
Nick Zametti too, he’s uk based. Now a collab between the 2 of you would be good!
Even do a resin pour with the bits of teak is an interesting craft
Thanks for cheering up a freezing rain day in Southern Ontario.
Your bowl is beautiful Simon. Perfect for displaying your Thames treasures.
Beautiful job on the bowl!
You are so talented, Si! I love the bowl you made!! And, thank you for taking plastics out of the Thames! Much love from Canada.

Great finds, Si! Love your bowl!
Absolutely lovely bowl!
It could be pink ivory wood from South Africa.
Amazing work. Nicola and you Si are are my Favorite Mudlarking Buddies.

Si, your bowl turned out beautiful! You have a real artist's third eye!
Changarookitty Thanks!
That Aussie pipe is a stonker and the wee bowl you made from driftwood is awesome. Great video as per usual. Thanks.
1908 was a special year for us Aussies. It was when our coat of arms was granted, as found by you. It was also the year our nations capital was chosen, where I live. I love watching what you find. If I ever get back I hope they grant mudlarking permits to tourists.
Simon, you are a true artisan, I would like to see more videos of your shop magic. Great video!

Si, you definitely have talent. That is a beautiful bowl!!!

What a great way to bring the natural beauty back to that weathered old piece of wood! Keep putting the oil to it! Happy Hunting!!
The nails would make nice small keychains, a charm for a neaklace or earrings.
The bowl turned (no pun intended) out really nice. The nails added to the look wonderfully. Once again Si, you came out on top.
Thank you!
You are even a woodturner :0 Oh my… That's a beautiful piece
Si. The bowl is a beautiful work of art. Well done. Maestro. Bravo

That bowl is a beaut...great idea for the nails 👏👏👏
Wonderful finds and wood-turning lesson! The wood looks like Cedar or Cypress. 🧐
You're so clever! That bowl is a beauty! You have bowled me over! 😜🇦🇺👍
Thank you for sharing. I really like how you decorated the bowl with the nails.

Thanks so much!!
Your bowl is beautiful! It's so satisfying, watching something being repurposed/upcycled.
What a beautiful bowl! I absolutely love wood turning! Totally absorbing, and you never quite know what will emerge from within the block of timber!
Hi Si, the wood looks like Australian Jarrah, what a fabulous job you did making the bowl ❤️... love your videos found you via Nicola. Best wishes from an Aussie fan ☺️
Miss Melly Vee hiya Melly doll!
I know it's an old video but had to click on it when I saw Australian pipe, what a beaut it is. Great work on the wooden bowl too
looks like purple heart wood, very expensive, favored in shipbuilding, vital parts of ships.
@TTLt106 Jarrah for sure.
WOW THAT ELEPHANT SHELL IS AMAZING
Hi Simon ; the wood looks like Purple Heart used in ship building , check out “the Sampson boat company, Leo is rebuilding an old wooden boat the keel is of this wood !,
It could also be Padauk or Jarrah which is pink/red in colour and was also used in shipbuilding.
I marvel at the variety of creative endeavors you bring to each episode.
What you're accomplishing here, without the aid of a production crew, is very impressive.
Go, Mud Lover, go!
Thanks Lisa! Yes, one man band! with good friends too sometimes
Simon, that bowl was absolutely spot on. Very nice work for an “amateur”. In the future you may think about epoxy resins to fill the cracks before you try the lathe. Thanks for the great vlog.....Steve
GOOD IDEA!
A piece of artwork with history from the Thames. ❤️
Cheryl Durham thanks 🙏🏻
Could the wee pivot thing be part of a set of scales maybe?
Beautiful Si, thank you.☮️🇨🇦
I wonder if they used bag seals for the bag seals bag. :P
Thise brass nails are mental . Lovely video

Si, your bowl is beautiful. Great job!!
Wood could be jarrah from over here in West Oz, I believe it was sent back because it was such a good hardwood
A lot of Jarrah was sent back to London to be used for street paving in the early 1800's.
www.ianvisits.co.uk/blog/2015/01/10/the-time-when-londons-streets-were-paved-with-wood/
Very nice wood working! Love the hunt and the pipe is exquisite. I’ll bet Nic will be green with envy over that beauty💖
I have to say, that Victorian apothecary scales piece is incredible- How on earth did you figure that one out? And congrats on the wood-turning bowl! Not an easy skill to do that!

Cedar wood is really red...but not sure how that wound up in the Thames
Love all your finds 😯
That bowl is absolutely mind blowing 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
Simonthat wood could be a hardwood called Sepelie (if that’s how it’s spelt.
Simon your bowl is absolutely beautiful!
#WOOD IT LOOKS AND TURNS LIKE AUSTRALIAN JARRAH
Agree
The colour reminds me of purple heart, tough & durable hard wood often used in boat building in the UK .but can make you sick if you inhale the dust !
Thanks Polly, just read that it's termite-resistant - So that's a load off my mind 😉
Wow, I've fallen in love with that bowl. Beautiful wood turned back to life and with that touch of the brass nails...beautiful design. I really love it, it wouldn't be the same if you had used brand new wood and nails. This one has magic, history and mistery
Maria Pilar Ruiz Ramos Thank you Maria!
Looks like red gum- eucalyptus
I thought the same until it was finished, I recon the grain to not close enough to be Red Gum. I've built furniture from old red gum fence posts.
Perhaps it's Mahogany.
Could be Jarrah,a west australian hardwood eucalypt, originally known as swan river mahogany.
Woah! SI that sweet little bowl is a stunner! Well done for making it you talented fella x
Thanks!
The last thing you found looks like hand scales.
Yes Rob! Cheers
That's got to be a rare pipe bowl ( Ozzies will love it ) and a delightful wood bowl Simon, well done!
What a great job you did on that bowl! A pipe a long way from home, and that glove button. Quite a day.
Loved the bowl - it turned out beautiful - and the nails were a nice addition
