Always nice to see marine enhanced items, keep those barnacles on, after all it's part of the bottles history, and can't be recreated without mother nature. Every time l find another bottle it makes me think about the person who originally bought it from a shop, that probably isn't there anymore, when l was young in the 60s corner shops were everywhere, and everyone knew each other in friendly communities, that gave you a sense of happiness, there were lots of smiling faces, which sadly as time went on disappeared with the closure of the little shops, as the big supermarkets moved in and stole the trade away, my dad always used to say money ruins everything, and now that I'm older l can see what he meant. But the great old bottles remain, nostalgia now from a nicer past, and made by hand, with a new beginning thanks to your great imagination Si

Your ginger jar looks like a traditional Chinese pickle jar. It's missing the collar around the top and the lid. The idea being that you put water in the collar and when you place the lid on top it creates an airtight interior. So long as your pickled veg is submerged in brine they will keep for several years, they just get more tangy 🤪 as they ferment. Google it, there's loads of images. Very enjoyable video, I'm catching up 😊 .

Lea & Perrins sauce! Love it Lea! Fancy footwear for all the fashionista Mud larks this year. What the well dressed muck lover wears for the summer in England. Simon, you are so clever to repurpose these beautiful bottles. They would have surly just continue to be crushed up. But now, people can have a true piece of London and British history in their homes. I love the ginger jar. My mother had one very similar. The lid is almost like the smallest glass cup you have on the table. I think there was a metal adornment around that seam. Just a guess.

Can you tell me about all the boats that were out there? Are they in water or mud? Trash or treasure? I always wonder about that! Here in the states we have to pay a deposit on all bottles and cans...usually five cents, that we get back when returned. Oftentimes there will be a bottle drive for different groups and charities. Your mud walkers were a success! And my faves this week was first your cat, and second the vase! Thanks Simon

That 1816 bottle could be the "RAY & SON ESTD 1816" bottle. Here: www.ebay.ie/itm/Antique-Vintage-Old-Glass-Bottle-Ray-Son-Estd-1816-/153457322478?hash=item23bac4e9ee
They were manufacturers of mineral water and root beer... In 1885, they were located at 1 Artillery Row, Westminster.

With all the bacteria out there and these new flesh eating varieties it would be a good idea to use some of those thick vinyl gloves and make it easier to pick things up as well

Thank you for answering my question about why there are so many bottles in that area. I just realized that you do not have poison ivy in England -- so you can go crawling about the woods and undergrowth much more easily than we can here in the US at this time! I typically have to wait until the winter when the vines have died back. Great and large selection of bottles -- and a lot of work for you to clean, cut, grind and clear coat!

@@Sifinds -- my college daughter (just finished her master's degree in accounting) was in staying with me this weekend and we watched this video this morning -- and I got to tell her all about your previous video with Nicola in the same location -- and how I saw a bottle in your hands (and Nicola's) fresh from the mud, and a few weeks later here it is in my condominium, and I showed it to my daughter and she was very impressed! And she likes your cat too! Those mud shoes seem to definitely work better than the snow shoes did! Keep on doing what you do! Thank you!

Sometimes potters will add texture to a vase that was intended to be an art piece. It looks intentional to me. That would be why it's embedded into the glaze. Beautiful find! (I studied art and design in college. )

If the top and bottom of the bottles are broken you could make hanging lamps with them...to hold just tea light candles. Those would be beautiful.

Well, the luck was fair but there certainly was a lot of muck. ;) Wow on a whole ginger jar! I think the lids of ginger jars were sealed on with wax but, I'm not positive. Glad you got mud shoes, although they aren't as entertaining as your previous pair. :)
