Someone kindly told us in the comments that the tiny object I found with the two hearts is actually a Charles-II And Catherine Of Braganza wedding Commemorative Button (or cuff link) from 1662. Which I think is amazing! That is why I love the Thames so much, you just never know what you may find!

Some 400 grit (minimum) wet/dry sandpaper. Keep object/paper wet when working it for safety reasons (to avoid silicosis) if you research stone polishing the same applies to glass

I love your videos and seeing your finds. I just spent 3 Days on beaches around Ullapool, Gairloch and Poolewe in the West Highlands. I found nothing save shells, sand, pebbles and seaweed. I said this to the Northern Mudlarks too...laying aside the history and wondrous stories of past lives, you are basically raking over centuries of pollution.

    • @MudlarkingWithKitCaboodlers
      @MudlarkingWithKitCaboodlers  4 года назад

Thank you! I just googled some of the beaches you mentioned, and they are stunning! Must have been a lovely 3 days, even if there wasn't much to be found. We often reflect on the fact that we are just rifling through people's old rubbish... K&C x

@@MudlarkingWithKitCaboodlers Hi and thank you for replying. I only live about 2 hours from those places, on the east side of Inverness by the Moray Firth. I have stunning beaches near me there, too. Findhorn, Roseisle, Hopeman, Lossiemouth. There are a lot of interesting shells and driftwood, but little in the way of historical finds. There are, however, a few fortifications left from WW2. The beaches in Moray were used to practice for D Day. It may be rubbish, but let's be thankful, because without it we would not have such a wonderful insight into those past lives and times.

@@britishreaction54 Well we're extremely jealous! There was rarely a weekend when I was little that we weren't at a beach, come rain or shine, which is probably why being at a beach is my favourite place to be...
Wow! Moray sounds like an interesting place to visit!
You're so right! It's amazing to think that the people who tossed away this stuff, years and years ago, had no idea that their descendants were going to be so fascinated by it, and how much joy their "rubbish" was going to bring in the future! Kate x

The oil will clear up a bit of the view. If I can make a suggestion, get a digital magnifier. They are cheap and can be found easily. The handheld ones with a USB port are fantastically small, like much of what you two find!

What interesting finds, and so tiny. I would have had to be dragged away as well! Just an idea, perhaps the “figure” in the marble like glass thing is sand or soil that has entered in thru the hole and collected there. If so, maybe you could dislodge it with a strong fishing line or some other tiny stiff instrument and clear water. That’s just what I saw when you held it up to the light. And I just adore Sonny the cat! His purr makes me smile and he definitely wants to be part of what you are doing! He strikes me as a hearth cat, not an adventurer though. Nice finds! The stone you pick up at 2:38 and say it might tumble nicely is likely a piece of flint. There are two small round stones near the piece you picked up, one is black and the other is a brownish color. They are nodules of flint, the larger ones I call eggs and the small ones I call beans. They are often a beautiful caramel color on the inside.

no probs, happy to help :0) with the clear lacquer you just spray it on and it should be a lot clearer and it would be super to find a face as that would be very unique :0) you'll have to let us all know how it goes :0)

I’ve used the non-word “blopped” many times, usually to describe how my cat used to just flop on the bed, and her nickname was Boots so “flopped” became “blopped” 😂

I wonder if you called a glass blowing studio and asked them about the glass with the face in it, they might have some ideas or even help you to polish the glass so you can see inside. Just a thought. I loved how the cat was the official mudlark finds inspector. Everyone should have one.

Hi ladies and Oscar, I hope you're all hunkered down and safe from this storm today, I've just lost my front and back fence and it's getting worse out there. I'm so jealous of your beach combing prospects along the South coast after this weather passes through, there should be finds everywhere!
This was a lovely video and you've got a good spot there, I'm sure it will keep producing finds for years to come.
Stay safe please and big hugs, Louie Xx

Industrial and Steampunk when you run out of Ideas for your Etsy shop ladies. Also, the smalls hide under stones. The other end is where you should go it's a lot less dangerous, no ruble to have to walk over. The Thames brings in new stuff all the time. I wish I could be there with you guys so badly. I like to think that bottle top with the cork in it was a christening maybe of a ship. Isn't that what they do the Qween smashes a bottle of Champagne into a new ship or something like that or somebody takes their sword and chops off the top of the Champagne bottle, BC its very very old. Very cool. tumble that little clear ball then we can see what's inside. It will take a long time to get it smooth. Tiny ruby.

The other mudlarkers I watch use spray clear varnish on glass to get rid of the opaque look, wondering if it would work on your marble!

Use oil to get the frosty seaglass clear without having it in water. I know some use normal oil when they are taking picture so that you can see the “real” colour instead of the frostyness

Hi Kit and Co. I've just found my new favourite channel!
For some reason I'm thinking that the 'marble' could possibly be a stopper for a small perfume bottle which has been eroded?

Don't know what it is, but some false teeth cleaners work well to clean many old glass and porcelain finds. Also a soak in some regular ol' baking soda may do the trick.

Maybe the glass object is part of a perfume bottle top? Or maybe it's part of a pontel mark from a hand blown glass item. Very interesting.
