  • "We thought it would be fun to do a frozen deep dish pizza review. So, when you're looking to do that, you do a Chicago deep dish pizza review of course! We wanted to find out which frozen chicago pizza was the best between Giordano's and Lou Malnati's.
    So, we ordered a pack of frozen pizzas from Lou Malnati's in Chicago and had them shipped to us in Ohio. Next, we went down to our local Giordano's and picked up a couple of their frozen deep dish pizzas.
    This is our frozen deep dish pizza showdown! Enjoy and let us know what you think. Which Chicago deep dish pizza place is your favorite?"

    Lou’s are supposed to be baked inside the foil container it came in

    One thing you should order from Lous is thier salad dressing.
    It is a sweet vinaigrette dressing. My wife and I went there on our honeymoon had a salad with the house dressing. It was so awesome I had to get more, so we bought 2 bottles from the restaurant to take home. A few months later I wind up ordering more bottles through thier website. It is unlike any salad dressing I have ever had. So good.

    First, as someone who spent the first 20 years of my life in Chicago, I was super interested in your video. Second, your family is incredibly awesome.     Good video, but what I'm tripping on is how you can follow Giordano's instructions to a T but with Lou's you decide not to bake it in the provided pan?

    Good review, thanks for settling the debate but, what kind of sociopath says that pizza A is on the right and pizza B is on the left? Thats just plain wrong.

      @@fishingfamilyman4302 LOL... not to mention, sometimes... certain cameras can film one way, then mirror & present opposite. Really messed me up there for a minute. Luckily, I could've had the whole thing muted &..... could've picked out that Lou Malnati's... by sight alone. :) It's definitely a preference thing & glad you guys all seemed to like 'em both... For me tho, born & raised in Chicago + even having had a ton of different types of pizza over my many years now, there is just something SO original about Lou's crust. How it's like some cross between a high quality pizza dough, perfect cornbread + top shelf french pastry.... Being a total carb girl, it's kind of like... a super good pot pie crust, but... pizza. LOL. A dough, that's fried in the pan + by the fats, prob from all that sausage that, when baked... ends up almost like 1 thin patty, in every bite. (or as some say in Chgo.... "SAHH-sihj" lol) on the inside... all, w/ out being greasy, somehow. A difficult feat, considering it also has butter in the dough & the pan is oiled (speaking of.... did u lightly oil the pan? From what I remember, tho was yearS ago I was back home, picked one up to cook later... Had to remove from pan, very lightly oil pan, spread up the side of, etc.... then put pizza back in & bake IN there. Looks like you put 'er right on the oven rack tho, so idk... it may have changed by now OR for frozen/mail order, rather than take/bake) People think it's deep dish/pan type pizza, but while heavy... the actual dough is more like the thickness of prob hand-tossed, just filled w/ cheese & 'stuff' that sorta starts baking into it on top. Regardless, again... both are good imho, BUT.... all the imho, better quality ingred from Lou's +.... all about that 1 of a kind crust I've never seen in anything else.... a no doubt about it winner for me, hands down. Bella.... has an amazing palate. =p lol (tho, she liked the cheese from Lou's... Zoe, liked the Sausage from there. So guess both were actually correct) Giordano's is good, absolutely a ton of cheese.. their crust tho, sadly..... reminds me more of just idk.... plain... bread. Just me, tho. Esp if side/side would be no contest, again... carbs always win. Glad you got to all enjoy so many, too! I'm quite sure everyone got their fill from the actual LEFT...... and the RIGHT side. Pictured (L) as viewing, def. Malnati's.... knew that instantly. Both by the crust color/shape etc &... bright color/texture of sauce. haha @ "illuminati's" btw. Then again, it IS outta' this world. Will def. have to get back to Chicago OR.... order some to be delivered soon! It's been a few years now. Pricey, but WELL worth imho. Idk how they get their take home versions, to be near exact to In house baked, but.... glad they do! :) Hope you & the fam' are staying safe & well. Masks & all, esp out/about.. cough-cough.       Probably because you eat from the pizza joint down the street which usually sells thin crust chi style. Eat Giordano's regularly and you will get heart disease.

    If you are visiting a location for fresh Deep Dish…..Lou Malnati’s with the butter crust wins easily.
    I live 10 minutes from both so haven’t tried their frozen.

      When we had a chicago deep dish, fresh out of the oven @ malnatis, that butter crust was very dry, and not good. The sausage was not good either, seemed under cooked. Then we had Giordanos chicago stuffed deep dish, and the cheese taste, crust, and sauce was way better! I have not tryed the frozen, and i will not pay for the frozen version, it will Not be as good!

      Thanks Man! I honestly thought they were both really good, just different from each other. The Giordano's has a more flaky, buttery crust. Lou's was a little crispier and thinner, but still good. I personally preferred Giordano's crust though.

      Just wondering if you ever got to try them since.... & your thoughts? For me, hands down.... ESP crust-wise which, carbs= always a fav. Lou's is SO unique. Buttery, kind of cornmeal, friend but not greasy, sturdy & just thick enough. Like the best buttery corn-bread foccacia + pizza crust + croissant... all in one. :) Now if THAT doesn't confuse you..... Will have to see what you thought of them/differences. Can't wait to get back home to Chicago & stop in at a Lou's for a pizza to go... its been far too many years & all these taste tests, all those pizzas... make me miss it even more.       Their frozen pizzas are terrible, I've never had their in-restaurant pies but the frozen ones were unedible to us. The crust was hard and not in a good crispy/crunchy kind of way.

    I ordered 2 of Lou's pizza and they were Horrible I would rather have a little Caesars over them and they ran me over $70.00 . Nothing like the advertisement !!

      Yep. Saw that after this video. We did have a pepperoni in the freezer that we cooked about a week later and did it that way. It was a little better, but didn't sway us to Lou's. Lou's is definitely good pizza, we just preferred the Giordano's. Thanks!

    I ordered a pack of assorted Lou's pizza and did not like the crust AT ALL. There's some weird outer layer of the crust that is hard but not in a good crispy/crunchy way but in a "something is wrong" kind of way.

    I recently had Giordano Chicago DD pizza! Top shelf, I must say! Btw how is Lou Malnati's I wasn't in Chicago long enough for the comparison? For me it would be a run down to the crust

    Idc what anyone says Lou Malnati's all day every day and twice on Sundee! My favorite city to go visit just so I can get fresh Lou pies but even when I'm not on vacation use Tastes of Chicago to order some Lou's. Lou's is deep dish G's is a stuffed pie. Either way better than this crap we get in Oklahoma 😂

    You cooked the Lou Malnati’s incorrectly. Directions say to leave them in the foil container they are shipped in. Remove top, take pizza out, use a paper towel to remove any moisture, use a non stick spray to coat the foil pan, return pizza to pan, and cook. Makes the crust nice and crispy.

    Was just recently in Chicago for the first time visiting. Googled and asked FB friends for best Chicago deep dish. Before friends answered, Google brought up Lou Malnati's as the top choice. I was extremely disappointed with Lou's. Then several friends on FB chimed in, Pequods was highly recommended.
    I didn't try Giordano's, but I highly suggest against Lou Malnati's. Pequods is def WAY better.

    Sorry, I have had Lou’s and I will never order it again. I learned a long time ago not to listen to most peoples reviews on food. I know what things taste like from being a very good cook and what a expensive mistake. Never again!!!
