Thanks, but all I needed to do was to replace the running-light bulb, so I was able to carefullyl identify the plug which could be reached without removing the assembly! Rotate plug counter-clockwise, push bulb into socket and rotate to remove and replace with an 1157LL bulb. Voila!
The trunk lid has a grey carpet covering underneath that you can remove by unscrewing the screw in the middle with a phillips screwdriver, then manually pulling up at each of the round plastic body panel screws.
This was quite helpful very easy fix

On 2010 no need to remove panel. The bulb is right there, just remove and replace. I just did it on mine.

I don't get why the whole casing fixture needs to be removed from the body in order to replace the bulb. Damn engineers.
