An easier way to disable the power management is to do it via the power settings, just set it to use high power mode in the advanced settings. That way the system will never power down any devices to save power.
Rich, I just got my first laser the sculpfun S30 5W diode laser, your guides have taken my projects to the next level. Thanks for the videos and tips! 👍🏻 easy sub from this guy.
Thanks for the tip and the comments! Welcome to the obsession! 🤪
somebody read my mind!! Exactly what I came for today. Thanks ever so much.
You're so welcome Julia; glad you liked it!
Thank you for the tip about USB going to sleep. Much appreciated.
Glad it was helpful Gilbert!
LHG, once again thank you for the information, always look forward to new vid.
Glad you like them Ken!
Awesome info on the power management setup. I have that problem, and I hope this is the answer. I thought it was my computer running out of memory. Thanks again for great information for us unedumacated guys.
Glad it helped Bruce!
Happy New Year! I recently built a laser enclosure for the purpose of running two lasers simultaneously and was wondering how to go about doing so. I think this answers my question about how to do it.
Yeah, it's easy, just open a new instance of Lightburn.
Now I don't feel so bad. Your shop looks like mine.
It gets worse every day! 🤪
Thanks Rich!
You bet!
Thanks the same thing can happen with CNC machines. I think you have just solved my Pocket NC problem. Thanks.
Awesome! Thanks for watching Peter!
Good information Rich. This may be a record for your shortest video;-) I think many may not know that on a PC right clicking on your mouse on the Lightburn program icon after you have already opened your first instance of Lightburn is how to open additional instances of light burn. On a MAC.....I have no clue... Thanks again.
I just double click it, just like the first one.
On a Mac, it’s not as easy to open more than one instance of any program as it is on a PC. On a Mac to open more than one instance of LightBurn, you need to open the program called Terminal and type the following command.
open -n -a “LightBurn” and then press enter. This will open another instance of LightBurn. You can type the command in several times to open several instances of LightBurn.
I had this issue a while ago and you were kind enough to help me. Then, yesterday I had it happen again. I'm wondering if a recent windows update reset the usb power setting on my laptop..
It may have Eric...
Hi, I was wondering if you have a video or if you could do a video about how to move light burn and all of your files from one computer to another.
Try this one Shelley: ruclips.net/video/StyX0Nt4-kI/видео.html
Rich, thank you. Thank you so very much it worked. I was going a little crazy trying to do it myself, and you made it so very easy. Happy holidays
Thank you, same to you!
Hmmmm so this video is telling me that I should have more than 1 laser! I think I will make the wife watch this so she understands how important it is to get the full use out of lightburn!!!!!! Awesome video man
Yes Mike! You need at least three! 🤪
Great tip 👍
Thanks 👍
Thanks
Welcome!
Hi Sir, @The Louisiana Hobby Guy I'm using Neje 3 Max Laser Machine on LightBurn Software.
My question is:
Why is Y axis [Landscape] Burning sharper than X axis (Transverse).
I hope you can enlighten me.
Thank you, teacher...🙏
Type $$ in the Console tab and press Enter. Compare $111 & $112. If they're not the same, you'll have this problem.
Rich does that also apply to a laser and cnc
Yes, if you're doing 2D work on the CNC. Many small CNCs have the same Grbl control boards.
Thanks Rich@@TheLouisianaHobbyGuy
unfortunately it is difficult to understand with the translator!! so you fire up a laser and then disable that laser's usb port?
No, you simply open another instance of Lightburn.
@@TheLouisianaHobbyGuy ok thanks i have to try, i have 3 lasers
This doesn’t have anything to do with your video today I watch regularly but today when I opened Lightburn today my grid on the screen isn’t showing an snap to isn’t working everything in settings shows it is on I have turned everything off back on restart the computer an nothing is helping I’m on a Mac if that means anything any suggestions an help would be appreciated
Click on Window --> Reset to Default Layout.
@@TheLouisianaHobbyGuy Thanks it wasn’t Lightburn at all it was the monitor settings something had changed the contrast everything looked good but no grid lines an snap to had gotten turned off thanks for replying back
Hi Rich - thanks for another great video. I have an Ortur Master 2 Pro and a Windows 10 PC. I've already un-ticked the power option for the USB as you describe and thankfully the PC never sleeps and interrupts a job. However if the laser isn't asked to do anything for a time, let's say 5 minutes (I haven't timed it) I have to press the buttons in sequence on the laser controller to re-establish communication. Any tips to improve that one please?
My lasers never sit idle Doug, so I haven't experienced that problem.
I run my diode engraver and fiber laser at the same time most of the time, using my laptop
It's a popular question Robert.
I learned to turn off the USB power management. Mostly on my laptop, not on mini BeeLink computer.
Computer USB sleeps too, just not as quickly.
Are you saying that you can "INSTALL" multiple copies of LightBurn? or configure and run multiple lasers on a single install? BTW, thank you for all your vids!
You just open lightburn twice. You dont have to install it twice. Then select a different laser for each instance.
No, I never said that. It doesn't matter how many times you install Lightburn, it'll still be one program. Double click the desktop icon to start another *instance* _(Window)_ of the program.
@@atienne_navarre I don't understand how to open it twice!!
@@makermaniacdiy just double click to open lightburn. Then double click on it again to open a second one, or a third one.
@@atienne_navarre nice, it's such a simple thing and I didn't know it. i tried and it works, so now i just give 2 different peripherals, i have to try. A thousand thanks
Think you need to define and outline, how to and what "Running Multiple Instances of Lightburn" really means.
Editing Windows power settings is only half of the problem when I help others run multiple lasers engravers using Lightburn.
I thought I did...
@@TheLouisianaHobbyGuy Well yes you did Rich. For people like myself that have the background. Question I am asked is: " What is a multiple instance? " and " How do I invoke? "
It means you start Lightburn twice. Double click on the desktop icon or open it twice from the start menu.
Super!
Thanks Ludwig.
Easyer to do it with power option instead i think
Navigate to Control Panel > Hardware and Sound > Power Options > Edit Power Plan.

Select Restore default settings for this plan.

A message displays to confirm if you are sure you want to restore the default settings. Select Yes.

Select Change advanced power settings.

Expand the USB Settings drop-down.
Expand the USB selective suspend setting drop-down.

Select Disabled and Apply/OK the settings.
Below Windows 10:
Navigate to Control Panel > Hardware > Power Options > Edit Plan Settings.
Select Restore default settings for this plan.
Expand the USB Settings drop-down.
Expand the USB selective suspend setting drop-down.
Select Disabled and Apply/OK the settings.
If I may. You cab read it here with picture to ;-)

Six of one, half dozen of the other! Whatever works!
hahaha, its that simple!? And here i was thinking id need to set up multiple virtual machines on my laptop to run multiple instances of lasers at the same time 🤯🤡🤣
Yep, it's that simple!
