    Thank you!! I thought I had an alignment issue. Just got an xtool d1 20w pro and thought I'd start with something simple like a business card. I created the image, set the origin, hit the frame button and every thing lined up. I would hit start and everything would engrave approximately 15-20 mm to the left. The only way I could align the card properly was to do the low power 4 pass burn on the outside shape and position the card to match. I actually burned the outside shape into my spoil board just so I could line up a business card again. While following along with the device settings I noticed the pointer offset was enabled at -16mm. Disabled the pointer offset, problem solved. I knew it had to be something simple. Thanks again.

    Rich - thank you for this and all your other videos. I'm very new and just set up my xTool D1 laser running Lightburn v 1.3.01. While only just setting up my system, I have watched many of your excellent videos. Thank you for all you do for the community. I also became a member of your forum. I ran my first engraving using your alphabet library you were so generous to offer. The only problem is that the job printed in reverse image while the preview showed correctly. I used the mirror image that flipped the image on the workspace and the engraving printed correctly. Interestingly, the preview of the workspace showed the image in the correct orientation while the workspace had the flipped image. Still working to figure out how to fix.

    • @TheLouisianaHobbyGuy
      @TheLouisianaHobbyGuy  Год назад +1

      The xTool has an origin of top left, the file was created on a laser with the origin of bottom left, so it has to be mirrored to work correctly on your laser.

    Hi there
    I'm a long way from Louisiana !!
    I am about to enter the world of laser engraving. I am only a hobbyist, and have exhausted the creative possibilities using my scroll saw and other tools. I have used many drawing programs, Corel, Illustrator etc, so I am conversant with most of the terminology of these.
    What I am struggling to understand is does the laser engraver technology need grbl or lightburn programs. I see in these the instruction "line" and "burn" instructions, and the colour coding accorded to them. This I assume is the engine that drives the process of engraving, and is only in Grbl programs. I am worried that I may purchase my machine, and then be unable to understand the software. Having mastered photoshop, illustrator etc over the years, I hope this will not be the case, but it is new territory.
    Having read every review I can on RUclips for every machine I can find, in my price range, I have decided upon Twotrees TS2 10W model.
    Finally, I had wondered how to get graphics that were used on these machines. I have many stock items myself. may I assume that I can print these to my laser provided that they are loaded by lightburn.
    I thank you for your excellent videos, and the advice and knowledge they contain. I am now going to your forum website to learn more.
    Best regards
    Brian (Heysham Lancashire)

    • @TheLouisianaHobbyGuy
      @TheLouisianaHobbyGuy  Год назад

      If you mastered all those other programs, Lightburn will be 2nd nature in no time. The only thing you'll need to know is how to get settings for cutting and engraving. A good start would be to buy my 10W library for cut settings from engraveandcutfiles.com. Then watch some of my videos on Libraries.

  • @atienne_navarre
    @atienne_navarre 2 года назад +1

    Have you run into any practical limits on library capacity where lightburn starts to choke? Number of files, number of libraries etc, or is it better to load/unload them as needed?

    • @TheLouisianaHobbyGuy
      @TheLouisianaHobbyGuy  2 года назад

      No, when you import a graphic or photo into the library they take up only a fraction of the space of the original artwork. Having a multiple libraries doesn't affect Lightburn at all since it's not accessing them all. It only grants access to the art files on your drive, and only when a folder is selected. So you could have 50 art libraries in the list and LB only access the one your actually using..

    Hi,
    I am very new to all of this but after viewing some of your videos, I decided to give you an example of what is happening with my new laser with the hope you can help me solve this issue. First of all, I have aligned the mirrors, adjusted the autofocus, and performed a ramp test. My machine will cut and engrave very nicely but here is my issue. When I send a file from Lightburn from my computer via USB to my laser with an updated Ruida panel the laser seems to often not follow the file. For example, if I cut a circle it will cut as it should without errors on the first attempt usually but when I try to run the same file again, the laser frequently will start cutting “inside” the circle and cut a straight line to the outside of the circle. At this point, the laser begins to cut the circle but then stops before the circle is completed or “closed”. This happens with most of my files and is costing me too much in time and material for the laser to be of practical use so I hope you or someone can help me figure out how to resolve this issue I am having with my new machine. Thanks in advance!

    • @BuddyClontz
      @BuddyClontz Год назад +1

      I don’t know what to do?…This has been an extremely frustrating experience thus far. My problem with Ethernet is that my wireless router is located upstairs in my home while my laser is in my shop which is a good distance from the wireless router. Should I just opt to buy another wireless router and use it only for the laser? The folks I purchased the laser from are telling me two different things(Reset to Factory Parameters and in another message they suggested to Reset to Default Parameters). Both of these options concern me because I can’t seem to get any advice that is working. As I said before, I’ve adjusted mirrors etc. and the laser will cut and etch very nicely but I can’t ruin 8-10 pieces of material to get one that actually worked as shown in the file. Thanks for your help and helpful videos…

      Hi M.E.T., I’m just starting out on my laser cutting journey and will have a similar setup to what you described, my plan will be to work from my desktop and use TeamViewer (free) to ‘remote’ into my laptop that’ll be visible through glass sliding doors, I’ll have Lightburn installed on the laptop but ‘drive’ it from close by. I’ll use Dropbox to keep artwork I download or create on my desktop synched between the two computers as my CAD and Illustration programs are installed on my desktop and I prefer to do most of my work using it.

    Every time I right click the devices button in light burn, the laser disconnects and will not respond to a second right click.( I hit this accidentally from time to time) Once disconnected I have to unplug the machine and plug it back up to get reconnected. Mac user. Any help as to why this is happening is much appreciated. Thanks.

    Thank you for your comprehensive videos. Is there an updated version of the settings you demonstrate in this video? I'm using LightBurn V1.3.01 trying to follow your configuration settings and find that the latest version contains new features. In addition, the snap to grid doesn't seem to work for me.

    • @TheLouisianaHobbyGuy
      @TheLouisianaHobbyGuy  Год назад

      No updated version, since all of the features are in the updates of the software. They just add new features and I cover them in newer videos. The snap works fine, you just have to get the numbers right.

    Thanks for the video. Question: between 6 minutes and 7 minutes in you explain Object Snap Distance and refer the number as in millimeters but LightBurn's window says, "Object Snap Distance (pixels)". Does LightBurn consider the pixel size to be 1mm?

    • @TheLouisianaHobbyGuy
      @TheLouisianaHobbyGuy  2 года назад

      Grid spacing and grid snap distance are mm. Object tolerance and snap distance are pixels. As with most of us, I don't always use the correct terminology. 🤪

    Nice. Now I have a different question. I made an ART LIBRARY and was trying to but in a wreath into it but instead labeled it as wreath. How do I change the name. I tried everything I could think of except to make a new one. I am afraid that I will loose the grafics I have of santa, tree and the wreath.

    • @TheLouisianaHobbyGuy
      @TheLouisianaHobbyGuy  3 года назад

      *Easy Karl!* Double click the wreath to get it on your bed. Now, with the wreath on your work bed, go to the Art Library, click once on the wreath in there, and hit the Delete button on the bottom right with the trash can on it. Next, select the wreath on your work bed, and click, Import Graphic from Project. Give it a new name, and viola, you're good to go!

    I’ve subscribed and clicked the bell. I’m wondering how everyone on RUclips is able to connect their XTool laser engraver to Lightburn and my lightburn is unable to find my engraver. In order to run lightburn I need to have a laser enabled. My XTool Creative Space is able to connect with my laser via USB.
    Anything I create in XCS is around 3mm wide and about 100mm long. My maple leaf was a somewhat crooked line.
    Any help would be greatly appreciated.

    • @TheLouisianaHobbyGuy
      @TheLouisianaHobbyGuy  2 года назад

      Create the xTool in Lightburn manually. If you're unable to connect, you may have the newer version of the D1 which does not use the CH340 driver, it uses the CH341SER driver. You can find more information here, along with the link for the CH341 driver: support.xtool.com/hc/en-us/articles/7934477424407-Target-device-not-found-when-connecting

      I created an engraver manually just to get the software to run. I’m not sure if I downloaded the DPS version or something else. I just clicked on the link and prayed for the best. Do you have any ideas as to why I can’t get anything to print using XCS? I made three boxes going outward from each other. When they were printed, they were about 1/2” wide by 4” long. On my screen they appeared to be about 40mm square. I’ve used a Universal 60 watt laser engraving system running Corel Draw and had no problems with it.
      Thanks again for your help

    • @TheLouisianaHobbyGuy
      @TheLouisianaHobbyGuy  2 года назад

      The xTool uses the Gcode version of Lightburn. The DSP is for a Co2. They are both the same software and the only difference is the license price. Sorry, but I don't know what XCS is.

    • @DaBalloonGuy67

      XCS is short for XTool Creative Space. It’s their engraving software.

    Still feeling the burn? 😁 I hope you've healed now. Great video as usual I learned more about Lightburn. Have you updated your N40640 library yet? I've got mine now and all I can say is WOW what a difference even from the 30W. I assume you only use Lightburn with your CNC for cutting 2D files, I can't see how it could do 2.5D or 3D files? Thanks for the video!

    • @TheLouisianaHobbyGuy
      @TheLouisianaHobbyGuy  3 года назад +1

      *Yes I am!* 😎 But getting better every day, thank you! Yeah, Lightburn is purely 2D, and only supported by machines that have a laser (GRBL or Marlin) standard, like the 3018 for instance. I use it on my 3018 for simple engraving and cutting. Much easier to cut acrylic and thick wood on the CNC.

      No, there is no app at this time. I would highly recommend a Windows 10 or 11 system for Lightburn. It just works flawlessly, which can't be said for a Mac. I have several in my shop, most came from eBay as off-lease machines. You can get a nice Win 10 or 11 off-lease for under $100 with a Core i3 or i5 processor on eBay. I bought mostly Dell 7000 series refurbs Dan.
