You did a great job on this! I have a 85 spree that I'm trying to get the headlight/instrumentation cover and the cowling right below it off so that I can repair and paint them. It is a struggle. Do you have any tips on this? I can't remove the black screws on the side because a nut of some kind must be turning inside.
@@ProjectTimeGarage was just looking at a 87 Honda areo in my area but found a great deal on a 08 scion tc thats on my channel. I might try to get it after I'm done with the scion. Ps its awesome that you have your daughter getting her hands dirty
@@kevsautoadventures6003 Those Aeros are really cool - soooo 80's looking. You'll have to do a video if you get it. Heading over to check out your Scion right now.
I just got 1 and cleaned the carb and now it starts up great and runs good but after like 3 minutes or once warmed up it dies and won't start. When I et it cool down u starts right back up again
Hey man! Just ran across this video I just picked up a 1984 Honda Spree Nq50 it sat in a guys garage for 4 years and he couldn’t get it running. I’ve cleaned every nook and cranny in the carb, I’ve emptied out the gas tank and re filled it, we cleaned out the exhaust to the best of our ability, change the spark plug, air filter and we can get it on but it just bogs out after a few minutes then it takes forever to try and get started again. Any tips would help!
@@ProjectTimeGarage we ended up changing the oil, putting new gas in it, cleaning the carb again got it running it wouldn’t stay idling and then it would bog out after a little it just would turn over. Took it all apart it was spraying gas out the spark plug hole ( it was also pissing out gas from the carb ) so we are hoping it wouldn’t start because it was being flooded because the gasket inside the petcock was ripped so it was getting a constant flow of gas.
A couple questions. I opened mine up last week and it was full of oil everywhere. Crankcase. Piston. Spark plug. Drive belt. Muffler. You get the idea. Any ideas what might be causing that? Faulty oil pump? I didn't see you talk about the Reed valve in your videos. Did you mess with that piece at all? Also - I'm thinking about doing what you did and try running it with pre-mix first to get it to start. If I can pass that stage then I'll deal with the oil pump. Can you share what was your mix ratio between gas and oil? Thanks!
Having that much oil in the crankcase either means the pump leaked it, or someone put oil in it by accident, I would bypass it for now and run Pre-mix. I ran mine at 32:1. On most old reed valves, I generally take the cage out, remove the reed itself and flip it over - that typically works if the valve is leaky.
What that is, is the ring on the oil pump being worn out ( Part 16 in this url: www.hondapartshouse.com/oemparts/a/hon/5053dbb2f870021c54bda7ec/crankcase-oil-pump ). This is a known problem with the AF05E engine. The ring on the oil pump is over 30+ years old and like all things rubber, has deteriorated with age and is allowing oil from the reservoir to flow into the block. The replacement for it will cost you a whopping $2.95 online or at your local Honda dealer. Many people mistake this issue for a failing pump. The pump very rarely, if ever will fail. Do NOT run premix. The pump is linear. Meaning the amount of oil it puts out depends on the RPM of the bike. At minimum, the Spree does 50:1 at idle, at max it does 32:1 at high rpm. If you want to run premix, I recommend 40:1 and no higher. At 36:1 or 32:1 you'll start saturating the plugs which is not good. Do NOT listen to what others say about this, even if they mean well. I know this for a fact because I reverse engineered the AF05E with the help of some technicians at Indian Motorcycle. My Spree's will do over 50mph each and I didn't get to that point by second guessing things. Engine stability was #1 priority when we ran Dyno pulls on it. ruclips.net/video/U1MUmUUJbbs/видео.html I see alot of people tell others to run 32:1 premix, that's just looking to blow the engine, DON'T DO IT.
You won't be disappointed - I bought an entire horde of Sprees and related parts, including two 87's. I have a video posted where I do channel updates and I show some of the lot: ruclips.net/video/qnwfUXb7TAk/видео.html

Can you verify fuel is in the bowl when it dies? Also may be CDI box getting warm and cutting out.
@@ProjectTimeGarage fuel is in bowl but I didn't think a bout cdi getting hot
You don`t need a license to drive a scooter in the us?
If it's 50cc or less, only a valid driver license is needed. No specialized motorcycle endorsement is necessary.
@@ProjectTimeGarage Same in Sweden, if you have car license you can drive up to 50cc but max 45km/h without motorcycle license
Would the horn work for a yamaha razz
Probably so, there isn't much to any of the horns.

Take the exhaust off at the head and see if its better. if so, the muffler is still plugged.
