    Along the same lines, Robbie C recommends sitting in a chair and throwing forehands to get spin.

      Not a bad strategy at all

    • @danielpenrodii2389
      @danielpenrodii2389 6 месяцев назад

      You probably shouldn’t do that, because that’s far too over the top in terms of learning a throwing motion in a position you’ll NEVER be in. Baseball has players throw from a single knee in drills, but you’re still engaging your hips somewhat and isolating the arm. That’s what Uli’s flicking drill does, but fully sitting down puts you in such a poor position.

    Nice tips! Thanks. I mentally act like I’m skipping a rock on the water and I always try to remind myself to push my fingers through the disc at the finish to really get that whip spin.

    Great video. The forehand did *not* come naturally for me, as a former baseball player I just could not get the feel of it until I got on a knee in front of the couch and flicked over and over and over with no arm, just wrist. One thing I *just* figured out on the course is how important it is not to grip the disc too tightly when trying to get that spin. Gripping it loosely (like, 30%-ish for me?) seems counterintuitive, especially when putting a lot of torque and power into a distance throw, but when you do the flick exercise you can see the effects of gripping too tight immediately. It doesn't let your wrist move as freely and limits the speed you can get into the spin (and the angles you can hit). I've been throwing forehands for probably a little over a year now and I'm normally around 300' on a great drive, yesterday I hit 400'. It pushed way left with a right to left crosswind, but it's still an entirely new frontier for me. Another HUGE thing about gripping less tightly is that it prevents injury. The tightness and occasional pain in my elbow is gone now.

    • @DiscManiac28
      @DiscManiac28  6 месяцев назад

      That’s freaken awesome, I never thought of how tight my grip is, I’ll have to check that out next time I’m out, thanks for intel. I have elbow pain sometime inner elbow sometimes outer elbow, it kinda comes and goes…. I’ll definitely check it out.

      Forehands hurt my elbow a lot for a long time, especially as I got more power (also a former baseball player)...do the flick drills, and then when you do a full throw don't grip the disc any more tightly than you do when you're only using the wrist. It made a huge difference for my elbow, specifically.
