The interpreter, Sharon Choi, deserves all the kudos she gets. Bong called her “perfect” in a brief interview after the Golden Globe Awards.

hmm interesting, i've never seen an interpreter with pen and pad in hand before. but then you hear how spot on she is with all the details. clever.
Yeah that's the presidential level translation. The pro translators do use a pen and a notebook. I saw em do that next to Presidents
I noticed on BTS press conferences the guys had pen and paper and i was wondering what they were writing and then at their Grammy museum interview the translator had also pen and paper. This was my first time encountering this.
But i guess it makes sense for longer interviews to know on what topics they touched down but it also makes so much more sense for back to back translating especially during live interviews. Notice how fluent this wonder-woman translator lady was. Didn't hesitated on her choice of words. Didn't had to think too much, if at all, on how to properly translate his statements.
It is actually normal for professional interpreters (not translators by the way!) to work like this! You develop a very unique note-taking technique that probably only you can decipher and then you interpret. It's incredibly difficult.
with out a pen and paper, how can a human being remember all the things the speakers say? I'm a freelance interpreter and it's impossible to interpret without those.
I did translation several times and if you don't write down notes, you forget times what to translate. She's quite a pro.
The translator is so good, some nuances of the Korean language was easy to be misunderstood or negative if translated directly and she did a great job and it doesn’t sound offensive at all

한국어가 섬세하기도 하고 난이도가 높은 언어라 어순이 반대인 영어를 통역한다는게 양국의 독해가 완벽해야 하고 암기력까지 요하는 굉장히 머리가 좋아야 되는 작업임 저 통역가분 인디영화 감독이라 영화에 대한 상식도 있으셔서 통역을 제대로 하심.

The interpreter is amazing!!! She has done an amazing job! She's a TURE professional interpreter. All she does is a role model to all interpreters. She made note and interpreted it 99% accurate to the original message.

This is a great example of how it should be done and I hope it will encourage foreign singer/actor/film maker/whoever to go to other countries! And I hope it shows the industry that it's possible even without being fluent in english.

All comments praises the interpreter, I'm Indonesian and 5 years I've been working with Korean people, all Korean interpreters are like this, they take notes and delivered accurately so she's actually common in Korea. But I appreciate her hardwork tho.

Kudos to the interpreter! As a freelance English-Korean translator-interpreter myself, it's truly inspiring to see how Korean artwork has been gaining long overdue worldwide recognition with help from translators and interpreters.
Would have loved to hear from Mr. Song as well. I have not an ounce of doubt in my mind that had Song Kang-ho and Choi Min-sik been born in the English-speaking society they would have been regarded as highly as the likes of Robert De Niro, Daniel Day Lewis, Tom Hanks, and Denzel Washington for their acting prowess. Living legends of Korean cinema.

As a Korean, we want to be called Corea. Actually the original was Corea but when Japan colonized my country, they changed c to k because Their First letter J is later than c. So they changed to K and now it becomes official 'Korea'. It's a sad history.

For me as a Korean, I can tell how much correctly she deliver what Bong said since I can understand Korean and Eng. But you guys who left comments here, how do you guys see she's good at interpreting? Just wondering no offense.
ALDS LIFE her choice of words are very articulate and she speaks very fast/smoothly without hesitating or struggling to remember what he said :)
And all the Koreans are verifying that the content is correct XD
People who understand korean+English all are saying that her translations are nothing but 100% accurate.
And for me, who doesn't understand korean, i think her translating is absolutely amazing. She has a very soothing voice and the way she translates his words is like she is talking herself and not translating for someone. She doesn't hesitate and seems very on point with her choice of words. I can only imagine how wonderful a proper 20min-30min with her as a translator would be

From understanding both languages somewhat I believe the interpreter translates the directors' remarks quite accurately with proper words, fantastic.

I'm a huge fan of Bong Joon-ho. He always manages to make movies that reflect the society in a very interesting way. And this movie is no exception. It is without a doubt the best movie I have seen in my life so far. It manages to bring so many different genres into it without feeling like it was forced. Thank you Bong Joon-ho for this great movie and thanks to you the eyes of Park Myung-hoon will forever haunt me XD.

Bong junho doesn't seem tense, but quite relaxed during his interview.
I thought parasite was the best movie of the year, period. I loved it so much, I gotta say the interpreter is really on the ball.

Man, I love that actor Kang Ho Sung. Look at him just trying to keep a smile but I know he’s getting tired lol. Also for everyone else that’s getting into Korean films. Every movie Kang Ho Sung is in always turns out great. Check out Taxi on Hulu (based on a true story) and Drug King on Netflix (semi based on a true story.)
Thank god for subtitles because after I discovered Asian content subtitles are a life savior ... how amazing this dramas and movies are I cannot live without them ... I been into them for more than 5 years and they keep getting better and better
