Actually they did write Alone, it was the first song Kanami wrote that was accepted by their label.

In 2018 Saiki underwent vocal cord polyps surgery, after she struggled with her throat for two years. After she suddenly lost her voice, she decided to go ahead with the surgery and although Saiki was initially terrified the procedure went well, and her voice and throat are today better than ever.

  • @himbo754
    @himbo754 Год назад +18

Saiki's voice *was* getting very raspy. She was developing nodules on her throat, I believe, and had to have surgery. Fortunately it all went well and her voice is great, but she has to look after it. That's why they have some instrumentals and also songs featuring Miku (like Sayonakidori) -- they give Saiki's voice a break. Also Miku's Omajinai Time during concerts gives the band -- and Saiki's voice -- a break.

About Saikis voice around this time she is dealing with throat issues which she would later get surgery for.

Alone is the first song written by them that the label released - still one of my favorites but ymmv naturally. I think it sets the stage for what’s to come later rather well.

This video's English subtitles contain several mistranslations (there is a better translated version of the same interview video).
One example is at 20:47 the English subtitle said "Her clothes have a Croatian maid style." But Miku said in Japanese "koroshiya-fu meido sutairu desu, te-ma wa.", thus a more appropriate translation is "The theme is an assassin maid style."

The melody for the musical box is actually from their song Anemone which is off their second full length album World Domination. They also do an acoustic version after Puzzle in that same performance.

Was going to mention this, but as others have mentioned, Saiki had vocal issues earlier to the point conversations were taxing. Surgery fixed that and she sounds better than ever now.

Their public personas haven’t changed much since this interview, they even play it up at their shows during omajinai time. They’re definitely performing and exaggerating, but I’ll bet there is a lot of truth in those personas.
The orenje documentaries are great. They have one for each lady (3 for Miku, because she needs a lot of explanation)

Well you guessed wrong. The song “Alone” you mentioned they probably didn’t write , actually is theirs. Not only that, but it’s a standout tune in the bands career, due to it being the very first song approved by the record company they were with atm and was to be recorded and be released and promoted. Kanami has one of the best guitar solos of her career demonstrated on that track. This made the ladies a genuine collaborative force , having proven their capabilities as the real deal as song writers , recording artists and lyricists. Hands down , they are one of the most gifted group’s out there today.

Well, the Gold Rush interview... Always fun to watch. :) Even though it reveals a lot about the history of the band and gives a rough insight into the personalities of the ladies, my picture about them has gradually been formed from many sources. Mainly the concerts and live videos, but also from somewhat more 'unstaged' videos such as the 'Kannai Devil' interviews, of which unfortunately not all were translated, but I could thus focus solely on their appearance and behavior. These little scraps here and there are what really made these ladies interesting to me in terms of their personalities, and I've learned so much more about them from this than from other musicians before them that I have seen in an infinite number of interviews. I know, badly described, and maybe the fanboy in me comes through, but I don't know how else to put it. :)
Regarding Puzzle, I think even if it's the same song, it's hard to compare the 'rock' and the 'acoustic' version. There is no better or worse, Day and night, 2 sides of the same coin. Each one a puzzle which gives a perfect, yet completely different picture, depending on the mood (at least imo). Both reflect the emotions of the story from the lyrics in very different ways.
The bottom line for me is that Puzzle is one of the greatest masterpieces in the catalog of these ladies, which for me personally is only in the shadow of one other song. But this is also more of an emotional thing, since 'Daydreaming' hits me not only in the ears but also in a sensitive place in the chest area. :)
I really enjoy and like to follow your experiences with this band. Thanks for sharing them with us. 🙏🏻
    Greetings from Germany. 🙋🏻‍♂

The gold rush interview is great, but as you rightly mentioned, the music included was largely from their beginning era, where the music was provided for them (with some embellishments from Kanami on the completed albums).
The way to divide things up is by album in my opinion. Everything prior to 'Just Bring It' wasn't written by them. 'Alone' was the first song completely composed by Kanami that was accepted by their record company at the time and was on the previously mentioned 'Just Bring It' album. It's almost a transitional album in many ways.
From here (I believe this is when they switched labels the first time) they began to get more creative freedom. The following albums ('World Domination' and 'Conquerer') is where they really started showing what they're made of. The music gets chunkier and more aggressive here, while Kanami starts adding more layers to the guitars (because Miku has obviously been playing for a good 5 years at this point, so she has more confidence in what she can play).
We then arrive at 'Unseen World' and they're on full throttle at this point. A combination of frustration due to the pandemic preventing them from going out and doing what they love and performing, coupled with unrestrained creativity (I believe there was another label change prior to this album) produces what is arguably their most divisive album. Everybody goes nuts on this one, Kanami writes some of their most intricate guitar parts ever (not even considering whether or not Miku can play it at this point, she just writes assuming she can) and the album comes out as what is, in my opinion, one of the most incredible displays of music writing I've ever heard. It was somewhat contentious though. I saw a lot of conversation about the album when it came out and a surprising number of people weren't happy because it wasn't as riff heavy and catchy as previous offerings (although, I would argue that the influences and complexity were already there on the previous 2 albums, particularly 'Conquerer', it's just turned up too 11 here). Then last year we got the 'Unleash' ep, another stellar offering and that's kinda where we are now. Currently it's the 10 year anniversary and following a Japan tour (which will finish at the 17000 capacity yokohama arena) I would assume we'll get a full album not too long after.

Hey Andy so glad you were able to finally hear the Zepp Tokyo Acoustic version of Puzzle and the Shinkiba Studio Coast version of Puzzle as well.
My Love of that concert is where I get my RUclips handle from.
So now Band-Maid terms you need to know to further your knowledge:
The Pigeon Hole = The BM path of discovery you are now on.
Shut Up Kanami is Speaking = No commentary during Kanami's Solo's
Mincho Mode or Deep into Mincho Mode = Kanami's transformation as she slides into her alter ego as she becomes One with her Guitar. ( with no awareness of anything else.)
Just Band-Maid doing Band-Maid Things! = Pretty self explanatory
Gorilla = Akane and how hard she hits the drums plus her consumption of Banana's during concerts for their potassium to keep ftom cramping up and because she likes to eat a lot.
Barefoot Assassin = Misa decision to forgo foot wear during concerts ( supposedly to feel the music from her bass more and be more in time with Akane )
Also on May 10th "The Day of Maid!" BM will be premiering a special message on their RUclips Channel.
