Probably about 300 of these views are me. I absolutely love the way Yura Lee plays this song. She is so expressive and plays perfectly. I play the viola as well, and aspire to be as good as her one day.
This was the first I heard of the sonata and coming back after hearing many versions, Yura's is great in that it's not overdone, balanced and just right.

This Schubert has been recorded by both cello and viola. The viola is clearer and more expressive. Often cello is richer musically, however for the arpeggione viola has a better match to the musical intent.
It's not really a song, but since it's Schubert it might as well be one.

Beautiful playing, every note is considered and makes sense. She deserves to be much better known - a great musician.

Playing this piece for my viola ATCL (diploma) this Autumn - it's such a technically demanding piece, and this is a beautiful rendition of it in my opinion.

N1v3x There is definitely some use for an intentionally slanted bow.

2003년 11월 21일 서울 금호아트센터에서 안미현님의 반주로 브람스 소나타 3번, 타르티니의 악마의 트릴, 프로코피예프의 소나타 1번을 들었습니다. 당시엔 10대 소녀였는데 말이지요.
그 사이 핑커스 주커만처럼 바이올린과 비올라를 같이 연주하는 연주자가 되셨군요. 앞으로도 좋은 연주로 많은 사람을 감동시키는 음악가로 활발히 활동해 주시기를 기대합니다.

It is indeed an exciting piece of music, and perhaps the only reason anyone hears of that instrument called an Arpeggione, basically a large bowed guitar, with frets and sympathetic strings. This sonata has actually been recorded with a genuine Arpeggione, demonstrating why the instrument flopped. A thin, nasal tone, with intonation problems in the higher registers. It has been transcribed for a variety of modern instrument, especially the Clarinet and Cello. Frankly, I think the Viola is the perfect instrument for this sonata, as this performance shows.
Would love to hear it on the bassoon. It offer a combination of the amiability of sound with the required range.

I have never heard a bow player with such an excellent sound ...under such unparallel-with-the-bridge actions by the tip of the bow :-)
The instrument must be quite an old one, considering the short fingerboard.
Anyhow, as our Asian colleagues are used to: she has the part definitely very elaboratedly and in-depth prepared!
