I love the way Dominik plays the double bass. Arco or pizzicato, low or high, fast or slow...every note is beautifully articulated at both its beginning and ending, has meat to its sound without being shrill or woofy and has exactly the right emphasis within the musical phrase.

Fon Silvers I thought that too! He has very good and even distribution of weight on the bow which is what a lot of bassists overlook.
I get that he's an amazing player. AMAZING. But I have never heard such a responsive sound come from a bass - is that instrument like one boss ass bass? Or is it just all him? I can't even believe how amazing this is.

A stunning performance; the tone and intonation was spot on. The pianist is amazing as well, such a sensitive touch.

This is likely one of the very best piano & bass performances I have ever heard. I wish I had been there but I'm here now and I'll be watching/listening to this recording many times in the future.

ich habe noch nie einen kontrabass so sauber und so delikat spielen hören. oft zeigen einspielungen mit kontrabass, dass man es auch auf kontrabass spielen kann. hier klingt es so als sei die sonate original für kontrabass geschrieben (statt für arpeggione, die es nicht mehr gibt). im übrigen passt der klavierpart perfekt. ich kann mich gar nicht satt hören.
I thought I knew this piece well, but your performance is quite a revelation - absolutely gorgeous, both players.
You can feel his whole body and soul is playing, a lot of players only have the body part, the physical part of the music. I do feel that he is giving us more, I still do prefer Rinat playing Botessini concerto, but this is my second favorite so far (I've only started playing double bass for real a few months ago (played it 5 years at high school but it's not the same), so I still discovering this new world) ! 🤓

As a quasi cellist, I actually appreciate the precision and beauty of the music that the Double Bassist’s was being able to present in this video. The “manipulation” of this “large” instrument was very mature and smooth. Amazing and refreshing. Thank you Dominik. And Aurelia did a great job too.

Die Arpeggionensonate auf dem Kontrabass. Das is ja mal was!! Wow.!! und eine wunderbare eigene Übung , nicht an vorgefassten Meinungen hängen zu bleiben , sondern immer wieder in verschiedensten Lebenslagen mit der Frage umzugehen: Warum eigentlich nicht? Meine Hochachtung (als Cellist) vor Dominik Wagner.
Mrs Visovan is just perfect, but Mr Wagner's performance is some kind of miracle...

Hello sir. I am big fan of your channel. I need your advise. Where can I buy sheet music for classical transcriptions for the double bass? Violin and cello Bach, Paganini etc for the double bass. I see many bassists playing them.
oh wow never heard an arrangement with double bass. I do think its a bit too contrasting. maybe transcribed in e minor might be a bit better but regardless really great performance.

Outstanding--I have never heard a bassist play this piece---one of my favorites---better. Pianist is a dream for bassists--sensitive, musical and careful not to overpower the bass. His recital at Carnegie Hall earlier this week was fantastic!
C'était déjà un de mes morceaux préférés, depuis que je suis tombé sur cette version, je l'écoute en boucle sans parvenir à me décider : violoncelle ou contrebasse ? Entre les deux mon cœur balance. Et vous ? Quoiqu'il en soit, cette interprétation est magnifique, bravo et merci.

I personally think the arpeggione is the instrument for this, but this version is amazing and absolutely touching. Now I am not so sure about the arpeggione anymore :-). Thank you both very much for this awesome experience.
I don't like the sound of the arpeggione from what I have heard on RUclips. It comes across to me as hard with the metal frets. I do like this work performed on viola, cello, and double bass. This performance is REALLY great.

Something in the way you played reminded me of Jacqueline Du Pre, probably the colors. It's probably harder to get clean notes on de double-bass.

is it me or at 1:08 - 1:11 you can hear a trill but if you look at the fingers they are not playing that? maybe its an editing mistake
You can see the bow covers his hand but his fingers do match up
How large are your hands? it looks like you can reach a minor 3rd on one string without stretching and its confusing me
