    Thanks guys I just had my ecm replaced on my 95 F150 Xlt. The odometer didn't work after the Ecm replacement. I have good troubleshooting skills from my years in the Air Force. I saw your video and thought to myself the odometer was working before the Ecm change. The shop I took it to started with excuses to why it's not working. I went to the truck and performed a reset of the speedometer. I saw the speedometer deflect full right then to zero and the odometer started to show the CAL on the display. At that point I new I hit pay dirt . I pushed the trip odometer several times all 1s then 2s......etc back to reset. Turned off ignition then started it up the current mileage is show. YOU SAVE ME A MAJOR HEADACHE. THANK YOU

    Just a little FYI for you guys. The inflated tire diameter may not be the same as the actual rolling diameter. I found this out through a Drag race buddy. His 33" tall tires on his truck had a rolling diameter of 32.187" / 32-3/16". To figure true rolling diameter, Inflate the tires to the PSI you are going to run them. Then use a carpenter's square and find the center of the axle. Then use a felt pen or paint pen and mark the bottom of the wheel next to the carpenters square and mark the driveway at the same time. Then push the truck forward one full revolution so the carpenters square lines up with the center of the axle and the mark on the wheel. At this time place another mark on the driveway. Then measure the distance between your two marks on the driveway. Divide that number by 3.14159 (Pie) to get your true tire diameter. I have tried this on several sets of tires through the years and none of them have the same rolling diameter as the actual inflated diameter. Once you know the actual rolling diameter then you can correct the speedometer more accurately.

      @dontdoitdonnell4750 2 года назад

      Just a time saving trick for you. If you inflate your tire to the psi like you said. Instead of doing the square and roll test. Get a sewing tape or tailors tape measure. It's the soft tape measure a tailor uses to measure clothes. Raise the truck and wrap the tire to get your measurements without moving the truck.

    • @STBRetired1
      @STBRetired1 2 года назад

      @@dontdoitdonnell4750 I wonder if that is accurate. When a tire rolls, it also changes the shape of the tire whereas just jacking up the wheel has no deformation. Okay, since you posted the new method then YOU have to do the measurement both ways and let us know if the measurements come out the same.

    • @dontdoitdonnell4750
      @dontdoitdonnell4750 2 года назад

      @@STBRetired1 if you mark the tire at 6 o clock and then mark it at 6 o clock again when your first mark gets to 12. Then deformity is not a factor because you are still measure the tire as a whole. 1 revolution is a full 360° so the tire could be flat with no air and you would still measure from point A around the full circumference of the tire(center of tread) to point B and get the same measure.

    This worked very well. If you want yours to be perfec tuse an 878. It worked right on the money as a gps spedo. This is if your actual rolling diameter is 32. Most 33 size tires are an actual 31.5-32".

      from what I read it will bolt right in. i love my long life 4.9 but its at almost 300k miles and still runs super, however i know a engine swap is coming to a 351 of about the same years. the 4.9 is a legend motor, that ford still should be putting in trucks, but you cant sell new trucks, when they dont break down.

    Would having the incorrect values affect the shifting? I've been having random hard shifting (overdrive light coming on) for the last 13 years... have tried replacing speed sensor in the rear differential... Just curious if this could be causing it as well, if my tire size doesn't match the PSOM values. Thank you!

    • @2MostlyBaldGuysKC

      No It should not effect the shifting. I have noticed the overdrive buttons on the end of the selectors going bad or breaking alot may be your issue for overdrive.

  • @johnnyohness6610

    QUESTION...I replaced my 1994 F250 gauge cluster chassis with a new one. All the gauges worked OK in the old chassis, but one of the electrical connections on the vertical plug cluster was looking like it was the worst for wear. Upon reinstalling the old gauges in the new chassis, now my fuel, and temp gauges are reading waaaaay off the mark. what could be the problem? Everything on the new chassis looks new and clean. It was a gauge chassis for a 95, but looked identical otherwise. Anybody got any ideas?

    • @mikehenry4743
      @mikehenry4743 3 года назад +1

      If you are still looking for a solution the same thing happened to me. Turned out the face of the gauges are just covers that somehow came loose and slid down on the indicator needle and was not allowing them to move properly. After I took mine back apart I noticed this, so I took some glue and put the covers back in place.

    • @johnnyohness6610
      @johnnyohness6610 3 года назад +1

      @@mikehenry4743 I found out that the gauge cluster chassis for the 95 has some differences. I don't know if that was because mine 1994 is a diesel or what but there were differences. Some gauges worked on one chassis and not the other. I about tore my hair out trying to figure the problem. Then just when I was about to jump off a cliff, a good friend of mine, said he had bought a roll of about 1/8 th inch wide electrical contact tape. It has an adhesive backing. I took some of it and recovered the contacts that were questionable where the electrical harness plugs in.....and WALAA everything came back to life. I was about ready to send off the gauge cluster and have a new printed circuit installed on the back of the chassis. That would have been in the hundreds of dollars + shipping. My whole problem was solved with less than 3 inches of electrical contact tape placed over each of the contact areas from the plug-in electrical harness to the circuit board. Hope this helps anyone having the same problem.

      @@johnnyohness6610 Oh my, you've given me hope. I just bought a '94 F-150 XL. The gas tank selector switch works but the gas gauges don't. The previous owner did say that the gauge cluster was a junkyard replacement. Well, pulling the gauge cluster will be a lot easier than pulling off the 8' bed and checking out the Fuel Delivery Module(s) (FDM). Thanks for the tip.
