It's important to note this is a cluster without the stopping pins. Like you would see on most older model cars. So great video, clear and well spoken. Many thanks
@@sierracollins7187 it's a pain. Pretty sure it is easier to have it calibrated by an Auto electrician. They will attach a cable into a female jack that's in the back of the unit from memory. It's very small and like that of a computers. You will find it on the motherboard (green thing).....from memory. Or you are suppose to do a full rotation on the pin and keep adjusting....very annoying way
Did this today on my 2007 F150, i would still reccommend taking note of where the needles are before removing. I found that when checking my speedometer against my gps, it was showing 5 km faster than the gps speed, i had to move needle one "click" counter clockwise to correct it. Excellent video, it really helped me.
I remember the good old days of older vehicles, having to use a speedometer cable to measure your speed, and how the needles on the cluster would flutter up & down. On my father’s 1987 GMC Suburban, the speedometer cable broke, and I had to re-install a new one. A real chore.
Good thing I realized what you said about putting them below and let them calibrate every time the vehicle starts up so maybe that’s why it took a little bit for it to climb up and I kind of googled pictures of everyone else’s gages when the vehicles were shut off and knew I had to go a little bit below zero and below empty Thanks it We’ll see me taking it apart again for the hundredth time
Sir, you are an apsolute legend. I work on my cars my whole life, you can imagine how many good videos I watched and followed instructions. However, this one is by far the best instruction nowhere to be found. You are my hero for life boss!!!
YOU ARE A F***** LEGEND - THANK YOU!!!! I have been looking for help on this for hours till i came across your video, i have cold solder joints on my cluster and they aren't accessible! Thanks a million
Awesome! glad my content could help. I'll be posting more common fixes I do as I get to them. If you have any more issues give a shout I'll see what I can solve.
Many thanks your information was right on target. I marked tape put the needles on in the exact same location I started the car the needles moved way out of position I was able to fix it using your method thanks for sharing. Replaced lightbulb on odometer 2000 Pontiac Sunfire with only 24,000 miles. 😳
This works! If anyone was wondering, I did this on my 2011 Camry after I stupidly thought I could change the cluster lights with T10 bulbs. I put everything back together and started to get really worried when the gauges wouldn’t move. But after this video, I’m happy they work again. Thanks
Geez man, I should’ve watched this first. I figured this out on my own today after scratching my head. I had a fuel gauge that was being a pain in the butt and only reading up to 3/4 of a tank one fall and it would stop it a quarter of a tank. I found a spot on motherboard that needed to be resoldered and fixed the issue. I took that darn plastic clear cover off to three times until I finally got my fuel gauge to go to empty one shut off in up past fall. It was being a pain in the butt and only going to a few times so I don’t know what the deal was, but it seems to be working now just fine. Knock on wood. The last couple of times it went to 3/4 of the way, and then after running for 15 seconds it climbed up to full. Seems to go to full or just a hair over now, which is just fine with me and goes right down to empty when I shut off my truck.
I seen a few complicated cluster calibration videos far yours is the most simplist and effective way.It worked beatifully on my 2004 Kia spectra.Thank you...
Dont look further! this works! I have a 2008 Silverado worked great thankgod i found this video after watching 5 other videos before that didnt work.. two thumbs up
faronf2006 your welcome, most everything from the old all the way up to the new is just about the same. the only difference iv found is the early 2000's and on do a gauge sweep.
07 chevy tahoe.. bro u just saved my life it freaking works.. for get that tape crap and marking it.. I took it apart because the two displays I have are not working and I messed up gauge needles but thanks to you there back where they need to be
I'm pretty sure this cluster has user serviceable twist lock lamps. No need to take the front half of the cluster apart to change the bulbs, they come out through the back.
I done that very thing seemed like it went well but when done it wouldn't work .but that is how I done mine .however I agree with you on the oucs and bs
Maybe I messed up, but this didn’t work for me on my ‘04 F150. Most of the gauges were way off. To reset: with the trick off, press and hold the little reset pin on the cluster while you turn the key to the “run” position. Release after the gauge cluster reads “TEST”. The needles will sweep and reset themselves.
I performed a gauge sweep hoping to reset my temp needle. The needle points straight down now, hitting the oil needle. Can I pull the instrument cluster and manually reset the temp needle like you did with the speedometer? Thanks.
I have a 94 Mustang and this would not work for mine. So on my mile per hour and RPM there's a little black rubber stop and you have to pull those out to even turn the needle all the way around. So anyway I pulled those off and then I tried what this video the way the video says but there is no stop you can just turn the needle all the way around all the way around other way around. And I actually back in the day after changing up the worm and drive year to get the odometer working, back then I figured out how to get the needles in the right position. But being so you know if so long ago I forgot. So anyway what you have to do with mine is switch the car on not start it and then put them on and make sure it stops right below zero on both the RPM and the mile per hour. Because when you put the little rubber stop back in it's going to be at the right position below zero.
Hope this works on my ford focus. Something happened that sent the speedo to show a higher speed and it nocked itself out. Last time I checked, it was at 20mph parked.
Yee haw. I think this will do it! speedometer on my 2004 F150 went haywire for a few days, and now stuck on 80 MPH. Odometer and cruise control work, and transmission shifts correctly so not the VSS. Is it really this simple?!?! I will let ya's know by the end of the weekend!
I pulled my temp Niddle off and was working just went to hot I put my njddle Back on know it won't move do I need to pull Nicole all the way over and back to 0 any help would be thankful
Doesn’t work on Ford Focus (2016) :( I fallowed everything correctly in this video but none of the gauge moves to 0 after I stopped the car:( All my gauges still showing incorrect numbers:(
Is your key on when you first start? When you pop the needles off with the fork is your key on? The reason I ask is because it looks like it is on because I can see your battery light and engine light on to the left of the temperature gage. Also will this work on a 2006 Chevy trailblazer?
I haven't seen any that are pinned in place. I would say so long as it's a press fit you shouldn't need the pins. Unless you are wrapping the needles out 😏
If you have zero and 100 pins as long as your careful when you pull it apart and put it back together you should have to worry about "recalibrating" it. If that makes sense
The swap its self may be the issue. I may be speaking out of the side of my face here. Are the gauges sweeps different between the two? Example think of a clock, if the distance between 10 and 2 on the f250 differed from 10 and 2 on the navi there will be an issue.
2000 F150 temp gauge moves only slightly but sits below the C on the gauge rises slightly on start revs high 2000 rpm when gauge falls oil warning lights up and revs rise slightly takes up to a minute to idle low enough to shift oil light stays on but pressure is Ok this happens every start can I reset the temp gauge ??
Is it the same when it comes to the MPH cause when I go top speed it says 102mph but in reality it reads like 97 and even if I drive in highway I go 75 on the cluster but I’m going 78moh on a speed app
I have a o5 Honda CR-V and the Gad gauge fell off so I put back to where it was E when I turned the car idk it was to where I have the gas level or it have to calibrate in its own ?
Hello folks. I own a 2005 F150. I had to remove the instrument cluster to get to the circuit board to repair the cracked solder joint for the brake warning light. The task was successful, but I’m having problems with the gauges. This video is very helpful. Just one question that I need to confirm.....is this process repeated for each gauge that the needle was removed from? Patrick
Derek. on my 2004 ford f 150 everything nothing works, but. the dash cluster lights work thats about all. would this calibration technique work on my ford. (im going to try it anyway.) is no fun driving around without the instrument cluster workimg. so here goes. let you (everyone) know if it works. bye
Any idea if this would work on a Mazda close to that year of Ford? I have a 06 mazda 3 and I recently replaced the needles but they are way off and when they move, its very ridged and not smooth whatsoever. You reckon this method would work?
will this work on the fuel as well. my speed is showing 3mph faster than before. can I do this on the speedometer as well as other gauges like battery oil and water temps.
I need to do this bad. I have been driving with corrupt gauges. My mileage display is also not displaying the numbers but the screen is lite? Also, the cluster sounds a 5 series of beeps for no reason on startup. Any ideas?

sir i followed your steps i fixed my gauge cluster calibration thanks for making this video absolutely 👍🏻 worked

You sir, are a legend!!!! Thank you for the tips!!!! 5 times I took my guages apart before I found this vid!
Pretty sure I just fixed my cluster needles on my 2005 F150. Ford Dealership quoted me anywhere from $125-$275 to do it. Thanks for the video!!
Awesome! glad my content could help. I'll be posting more common fixes I do as I get to them. If you have any more issues give a shout I'll see what I can solve.
I have 2006 F150 where my battery voltage meter is off after my "Karr" alarm went nuts. Which needle did you fix and did it stay fixed?
Many thanks your information was right on target. Unreal. Three shops and a dealership couldn’t help me but this video saved my ass. Thank you so much for this video!!!

u can also "force" the gauge to calibrate by pressing the trip button b4 u turn the key to ACC mode and select sweep gauge.
JC Ayala doesnt always work my cluster is proof of that 😂😂
boulderburwell oh no? I though that work also work. Haha
JC Ayala .... will that work on a 94 Thunderbird?
Doesn't that only work on digital and not standard
Be mindful this only works if you haven't removed the needles and there are no existing issues with the cluster
Just did this on my 93 crown Victoria. Thank you so much, man!
This was the only thing stopping me from changing a blown bulb in my cluster - didn't want to mess up the needles. No excuse not to do it now!
Dont look further! this works! I have a 2008 Silverado worked great thankgod i found this video after watching 5 other videos before that didnt work.. two thumbs up
Thanks Derek for your quick reply . Just wasn't sure if the newer needle gauges were electronic type & the older needle gauges mechanical type

Worked on my 06 jeep commander. Awesome video. And thank you.
Thanks partner, worked perfect on my Crown Victoria as well!
thanks for this I was about to go looking for a bench power supply and a wiring harness
Thanks, I replaced a step motor and this video really helped me to calibrate.
I have a 97 F150 I'm going to give it a shot if it's good I'll check in with you again thank you

It worked on my 2015 Nissan np300. Thanks my guy

Is this applicable to Volkswagen golf mk4s?
Anyone know if this'll work on a 06 ranger cluster? I have the "donor" apart and I don't feel the gauge motors clicking like shown in the video.
Do you go back past “zero” on all the gauges? Fuel, battery, etc?

Thank you so much. Yes this works!
So happy to see videos from years ago are still helping people out.
Thanks for the video does this method work on a 04 Econoline van
Why did you have to remove the needle? Couldnt you just change the stopping point?
He removed it to show an example of what someone would've done to cause a need for re-calibration.
It worked like a charm, thank you
Doesn’t work on Ford Focus (2016) :(

Excellent and useful video. Thank you sir. Do we have to take the needle out to re-calibrate or did you just do it for the illustration? Thx
oh another question is do you have to remove the needle or can you skip that step?
my '03 Yukon cluster did not recalibrate when I set it, started the motor, and then turned it off. Nothing. Maybe only newer GMs and Fords do.
Great video bro. Thanks
Hi there! the speedometer has to be at 10 or below 10 mile
My ‘02 F150 has pins on speedo and tach. How does this method work in my situation?
I haven't seen any that are pinned in place. I would say so long as it's a press fit you shouldn't need the pins. Unless you are wrapping the needles out 😏
Derek Foote there are pins at 0 and 100 mph, same with tach. They limit range.
If you have zero and 100 pins as long as your careful when you pull it apart and put it back together you should have to worry about "recalibrating" it. If that makes sense
Derek Foote Thanks, for some reason my speedo and tach her off but I’ve never pulled the needles. I swapped from an F150 to a navigator gauge set

You are a lord of the humans 😍
can this method work with all the gauges ? not just the rpms ?
it's what he's saying here
Hey I have impala ls 2005 I was wondering can u do that to the gas gauge so it can reset so it could work again
Will this work on a Chevy Silverado 05 if the speedometer stopped working years ago? TIA
will this work on ford focus mk1 2004 ?
Does work for the fuel gauge
How do u opened the cover for the bigning
Do you need the ignition off when you set them or on ?
Yeah he should have specified that
I think I’m doing something wrong cuz mine still don’t work right
Great video tutorial bro
Makes sense bud. Thanks!
is this method working for any ford? like focus 2015?
did it work on your focus??
???
Can you help me adjust my gear pointer. the needle is off by a bit what ever gear I am in
That's a plastic clip under the dash. They break, I used liquid nails to fix my explorer, still have to fix my f150 but been lazy.
what about the fuel needle not being in the right spot tho i don’t know how much gas i have
Did you ever get it fixed? I have the same problem and need some advice 😕
@@vitron01 I bought a new cluster
Will this calibration work on the 1980-86 , 1987-92 & 1993-97 Ford F series truck gauges ? Thanks for sharing this video .
faronf2006 I can't say for sure, but gauge needles are all pretty standard. usually just a plastic piece press fit onto a metal shaft.
Did it work? Just replaced my cluster and needles are off a bit on a 94 f150
Thank you my brother it work 🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼
no problem man, glad to see this is still helping people years later.
Can someone please help me, how do i calibrate on a mk2 ford focus. Thanks
Does it work on the f350s
I need to do this bad. I have been driving with corrupt gauges. My mileage display is also not displaying the numbers but the screen is lite? Also, the cluster sounds a 5 series of beeps for no reason on startup. Any ideas?
The beeps I can for sure tell you are your air bag light. Either the one in the dash cluster or the one above the radio being burnt out.
does this work on speedometer as well
