    I saw another video where the guy warned that when you are ready to set the new number by hitting the reset button, DON’T press it more than once to lock it in. Each time you press “reset” to lock in the number it counts it as a recalibration and will subtract from your 6 to hours many times you hit it. I think the guy hit it several times and instead of having 5 left, he only had 2. 😮

    You can disregard on my post from 6 hours ago. I took the truck out for a ride with a GPS and the speedometer is only off by the same 2.5 MPH. Apparently you can swap in any 8.8 rear end and the speedometer will read the same as the original rear end.

      +Dana Palmer Hi sorry for the late reply.. yes that is correct changing ratio does not affect the speedo reading, a nice feature of this type of differential. The same is for the 10.25. The necessity of the calibration is for when you change tire size. If your reading is 2.5 MPH I suspect the tires you have are a bit larger than stock as the factory tends to make the calibration a bit on the fast side..
      Thanks for watching and the comments!

    Hi! Thanks for the videos - I was wondering if I could ask you a question about my 96 F150 that's hard shifting... had the speed sensor on the rear differential replaced.. mechanic says the signal is good.. but i'm still getting hard shifting - after seeing your video.. I'm thinking it could be the tires.. or the speedometer in need of calibration. Thanks!

  • @JT-ov2yr

    5:50 Gauge read out shows that you have -0- calibrations left.
    7:00 The current 'Conversion Constants' is 792 with -0- calibrations left.
    8:20 You locked in a new 'Conversion Constants' of 822 and it worked.
    The Ford manual states "The conversion constant can only be changed six times once the vehicle leaves the factory."
    Yet somehow you changed it. Did it work?

    • @Broncocarl92
      @Broncocarl92  Год назад

      Yes it worked. I also changed it again a few years after and that one also took.

    • @JT-ov2yr
      @JT-ov2yr Год назад

      @@Broncocarl92 Thanks for replying, I did not expect that. Since your Bronco is a 1992, I am just guessing that maybe it does not display the number of remaining 'Conversion Constant' changes you have left on your PSOM, or it could be something else? My display on a 1996 reads "E 08 6", and your 1992 display shows "E 03", notice the spaces between the characters (E space space 03) vs (E space 08 space 6), this is why your video jumped out to me, it is the only display that I have seen like this displaying only two data sets and not three.
      • This information is sourced from the 1996 Ford Service Manual (Section 13-01: Instrument Cluster) •
      1) First character is either "E" or "o", which means, "E" English (MPH) display or "o" Overseas (KMH) display.
      2) The second double digit number is the microprocessor revision level, my 1996 is "08" and your 1992 is "03".
      3) The last single digit number on the right side is the reprogramming lockout counts remaining. This count shows the number of allowable conversion constants remaining. When the count is zero, no additional changes can be made to this instrument cluster. My 1996 has the full "6" available, and on your 1992 there is no display of this reprogramming lockout count number. "The conversion constant can only be changed six times once the vehicle leaves the factory".
      ►Side note, notice carefully the wording Ford uses, "reprogramming lockout count" and "allowable conversion constants remaining", "lockout" and "allowable" imply that Ford has set the number to "allow" only "6" changes and to "lock you out" of any additional changes after the "6". If it was a memory issue, Ford should have or would have chosen different wording.
      ☼ My question is, how many times have you made changes to your conversion constant?

    I am using the original size tires and changed my 8.8 axle from a 3.55 axle to a 2.73. I finished up the swap yesterday and haven't drove it yet. Do you know how to calculate the factor with an axle swap? I'm thinking you would use the drive shaft revs/mile. Also my speedometer has read about 2.5 MPH slow since I have had the truck. Do you know how to compensate for that too? BTW, very good video, thanks.

    • @rotorhead5826
      @rotorhead5826 2 года назад +1

      I know this is a 6 year old comment but I thought I'd respond anyway. The final gear ratio change you did wouldn't have any effect on the PSOM calibration number because the tone ring on the differential carrier rotates 1:1 with the tire rotation regardless of final drive ratio. The calibration number on the PSOM only needs to be changed if you are switching to a tire with a different outside diameter than what your PSOM is cal'd for.

    • @Broncocarl92
      @Broncocarl92  6 лет назад

      Gabriel Bray Correcting the speedometer will help the transmission shift correctly. It's not a band-aid for putting the proper gears in the truck however. What gear ratio are you running currently?

      According to this site you have a 3.31 which might be a bit high for 33's (lot's of toggling in/out of OD). If you can find a 3.73 (or 4.10 is better) the truck will not suffer major performance loss with 33's. See www.drivetrain.com/Fordtrkratio_posidata.html

      +Milton Monterrosa It's a mechanical speedometer, you would need to change the gear(s) at the transmission or get a calibration box to go between the cable and speedo.
