Great video as always James I have just taken delivery of my I210 and really happy with them I tried various other brands but really enjoyed the feel of the 210s and the consistent distances I get with them
Always enjoy your videos so I watch everything you produce even if the topic is not particularly relevant for me. Getting back into the game after a 12 year hiatus so nowhere near a mid handicapper. I just bought a set of "forgiving" clubs and I'm a long way away from needing an upgrade. You asked about weaknesses in our game. Mine is definitely my irons. A short right leg and lower back issues makes hitting them consistently well harder than my hybrids, woods, and driver. Bio-mechanics is a real thing...
James, love your content, keep it up! I was a 19 hcp, had been playing for just under 2 years. Started off with super game improvement irons. My ball striking wasn't bad, biggest problem was losing lots of shots around the greens. Big tendency to pull my irons left, and virtually no distance control (7 iron can carry anywhere from 140 to 160). About a month ago I picked up a set of serious players irons, the Cobra King Forged MB/CB combo 2015 model. Struggled with strike the first few times I played with them until I figured them out. Since then, I dropped to 15 hcp, now breaking 90 consistently. I lost a little bit of distance - about half a club, not more than that - but my numbers are now on the dot and I'm starting to learn how to work the shots fade/draw/high/low. Baptism by fire, in a way. But for me this was the best thing that happened to my golf game. What's your view on higher handicappers using players irons? Any advice?
Loving the channel mate, I've just purchased the 919 forged and absolutely love them, from the word go, so soft, hugely consistent. Add in that I went from reg flex shafts to c-taper 130's, so fair to say the last set weren't a good fit. Keep up the great work!
I hit the 760 7-iron today with the TaylorMade graphite shaft upgrade (Aerosteel?). Increased swing speed 5 mph, Lowered my rpm’s from ~ 9,000 down to 8,000. Loved the feel. Felt very soft and workable. Currently playing with AP2 710’s and have loved them. Lovely, balanced club. Need to move from a stiff to regular shaft. Handicap is 10. Percent
I’ve played Mizuno mx23 for years. My game has always been at an 8 handicap, but that new Mizuno looks so sweet and with the new technology in it , it’s time for a change. Thanks for all the great content.
he brought up a good point about being able to stop the ball. that’s a huge part of it that I feel doesn’t get talked about much. i’d rather give up some distance on a club for high spin rate where you can stop a ball on a dime more consistently
James, the thing that caught me the most was the stopability of the club. The fact the Taylormade landed softer is an eye opener than others testing clubs don't mention. I have a problem stopping the ball, I think due to height of flight. Thanks for info.
Totally agree with you James.. too many labels put onto mid-handicap irons and game improvement irons. I know +2 handicap guys who could game blades if they wanted too and play more GI irons. They always mention why make it harder than it needs to be. For me, my goals for next year are to remain healthy enough and work on fitness goals to help my golf goals. My bag is pretty setup as I like for now, no need to keep trying new gear as my scores are so similar regardless which irons / driver I have in play.
i just bought srixon 545/745 so i can drop from 15 to 10 next year -... year 5 of playing golf .... love you vids .. they really inspire me to play more golf
Hi James, Really liked the review format you did here on the course - particularly the shot into the wind and how they react - good to see them tested head-to-head in the real world. There's a place for launch monitors as a baseline but this comparison was really informative. Thanks again for all the effort you make in taking your content forward...
I play with the Ping S59's to a 7 handicap at 61 years old. Love the feel and feedback from them. Still spin them back! Just researching for a replacement as I get older. Need feel and consistency with easy distance as my top priorities.
Here’s one for ya James. (Ps. Love your Chanel mate, loads of contest to raise my game, lower my score and get me enjoying golf loads more ). Anyway. I’m fairly new to golf (5ish full summers ). When I first started golf my brother gave me some hand me down Cleveland Blade irons that felt like butter at times and nearly broke my fingers others. My first year I got down to an 18hc after about 30 rounds. Last year I finished at just over 11. Here’s my biff. My biggest move on the HC scale happened when I was still hitting those blades. I learned hot to strike the ball consistantly and learned the percentages of playing a round. I went from beginner to 12 HC in 4 years with the blades. Then I started watching many videos and the words “mid HV irons” flooded my google search. My budget was relatively low at the time so I went to the local sports chain and grabbed a set of improvement irons. Cobra Bio Cell irons. $350 Canadian dollars. I got the before last season and man did I struggle. I could strike the ball consistently, I couldn’t shape at all and was struggling with controlling distance. I felt like a be Kinner again. Yes I dropped a point on my HC last year but that was due to learning how to “play golf and the course”. I’m asking, what set of clubs would I try? Mizuno HM or tour? TM P590? Cobra forged tech? I found that a club that looks futuristic brought my confidence down. I like the club to look like a players club, I like to feel the ball on the face. Any suggestions would help And yes, lol, I know about fitting. But my judgment again isn’t there. Looking for a standard lie off the shelf solution. Cheers mate and merry Christmas
Currently play the MMC 5-PW. I pulled the trigger on JPX 919 tours. Hurry up UPS! Realized my iron misses are not when I miss the center. They come from not being on plane or face being open/ closed. Always loved the look of smaller heads but not quite a blade. Tours seem to fit in well. Got the lofts made a degree stronger. My goal is to go from about a ten HDCP to a 4-6 this year with more practice and steady lessons.
good video James. I have recently come on board with your channel and enjoying it very much. I am an equipment junkie and play with several different types of clubs. I bought the 718 ap2's for 2018 but also used the z765's, some older VR Pro combo, and MP 18sc. I recently met up with a friend that is a fitter and with his help i purchased a set i would have never looked at. Maltby irons, Golf Works. These all black PM forged cavity backs married with the KBS TGI 110 black shaft not only look amazing. They play just as good if not better than the name brands i own. all about getting fit correctly. keep up the awesome work James!!
Hit a set of Wilson Staff irons. The feel is great, the distance is off the charts, and the price is outstanding. I hit the d350's, myself, with graffite shafts. Love 'em.
Fitted this year for new clubs, top to bottom. Ping G700 looked and felt the best to me. Made a difference in my playing this year. TM P790 and Titleist AP3s were the other 2 contenders. Came down to what made me feel most comfortable as they all performed similarly. They replaced a set of Callaways from several years ago. My improvement will now come as I work on my swing over the next year or so, more so than my equipment. "Don't show this to my wife." If I "had" to buy new irons, I would look hard at the Mizunos, TM 760s and probably the Ping i500s
Honestly ive hit Taylor for the longest time. Cleveland and Ping also...lowest hanicap was with Cleveland Launchers. Lowest round Taylor R9. Borrowed a pals Mizuno 8 iron. Old model...a blade felt so good i went to golf store bought the 919 HM. Cant wait to try them. Good video
Old video but I just subbed because I saw you on Golfmates and I loved your description of not being able to judge a handicap based one one aspect. Most logical description I've heard. Me, I drive the ball ok mostly in play with respectable distance, ball striking may be where I need a little help hitting more greens, but I have a decent short game and get a fair number of up and downs from just off the green mostly, and putting is fine. That's why I'm watching! Thanks!
James, great head to head! You seem like a great dude, your videos are informative without too much fluff, and you’re entertaining. Great job man and please keep the content coming. Thank you! P.S. I would love to see a video/s focused on “How-To” for hitting different shots (i.e. knockdown, draw, fade, ball below/above feet,...). Cheers mate!
Great review. I recently bought my son a set of cleveland 588 tt irons from ebay, as he was just starting golf, and was blown away when I tried them. They were so good that I bought a set and saved £1,200 over a set of TM's. I'll put the money into lessons for me and my son and see if I made the right decision.
Excellent video James and I am a great fan of your no-nonsense delivery style. I have just been fitted at Mizuno for a JPX 919 Tour/Forged combo and the only thing preventing me from buying them is the TaylorMade P760 as it is a true combo set, designed as one from the off - it has speed foam in the 7 and longer irons and pure forging in the 8 and shorter so the longer irons should be more forgiving and hotter and the shorter irons should feel great and offer good feedback. I will hit the P760 in a couple of weeks to decide which set I prefer but the fact that the lofts of the 919 Tour/Forged have to be tweaked is putting me off a little. However, I wish you and other (not so good!} RUclips golf stars should stop banging on about the RRP of the TaylorMades. Mizuno JPX 919 Forged 4-PW retail at £899 and the TaylorMade P760 4-PW at £1043 at a well known internet golf store. Rant over! I hope to get down to single figures in 2019 from my mid-handicap of 14. What combo set would you choose James based on my handicap and your first-hand experience of the 919 Tour/Forged and P760s? Thanks very much!
Excellent comparison James! I was leaning toward the Pings, but now going to take a serious look at the Mizunos. I'm a Mizuno guy anyway, playing the old MP-52s, and looking for something newer. By the way, you earned a new subscriber! Cheers!
Just getting back into my golf and been binge watching your videos on nightshift loving them well done keep up the amazing work. Why have I yet to see you do anything callaway related??? Also you have some how managed to make me want to go buy a M3 driver 🤣🤣🤣🤣
My AP2/3's are only 6 months old and I wouldn't swap them even for gold plated PXG's... though I'd test the Mizuno's purely for sake of Research!!! I really enjoy mooching at my local golf suppliers - not just clubs, anything golf - to see what's new. Think it's part of the fun to try to separate the science from the blarney. Have to say Huddersfield GC looks in prime condition, particularly the greens, considering the variety of weather we've had this year. Provides a great backdrop for your videos.
James, I recently purchased a set of P790 Black Taylor Made irons. I have to say I was really disappointed with the consistency of these clubs. Hit one long then be a club short. Couldn't put my finger on the issue. Went back to my Pro and tested the JPX 919 Forged. Fell in love with them immeadiaty . And purchased a set. Super consistent and workable for me. Not saying anything was wrong with the 790's but they just didn't work for me. I highly recommend the Mizuno. By the way my USGA index is 4.9.
I currently game the Ping I200's. Went for them because I don't buy irons often and the cast clubs should wear slower than a forged iron. Feel wise for me there is not that much of a difference. I would rather play the harder club with fresher grooves for longer. Another great video. Thanks James.
I’ve not played golf in about 8 years until this last week. Played 9 with my 10 yr. old boy (who is in love with the game) and have been inspired to pick up the clubs again. I’d consider myself somewhere between a beginner and intermediate , taller player 6’4” With that being said, it’s time to pick up a new set of clubs. That’s what brings me here to this entertaining , informative video. Hints, tips and recommendations gladly accepted. Naturally looking to clean it up. My driving is pretty shit and putting needs work. Really love the feel of chipping, that may be my strength i ntend to rely on most. Just looking to make a worthwhile investment in decent clubs and get out there and have some fun.
Ive hit all three of these. The 919 tends to balloon and you dont have much feel. The ping is nice and stable but a bit of a dull strike. The 760s definitely had the best feel but the head is small so you have to be a good golfer to use them.
Really enjoy your club reviews. I play off 18 and would love to upgrade my Adams irons, but the cost of some these sets are really restrictive. I like the look and sound of the Mizuno JPX. Is it worth getting them fitted? Thank you for putting the fun back in golf.
My 2019 goal is to drop 2 shots off my handicap currently which is currently 18. I have been looking at different irons and this video is swaying me closer to the mizunos
Great video, James. I'm currently gaming the Ping i210 irons and really enjoy them. With that said, I hit the Mizuno JPX 919 Forged the other day for the hell of it and....DAMN!! Now I want a set of the 919 irons.
Like Mark F , I was using an old set of Spalding Executives from the 1980's and just last week I pulled the trigger on a new set of Callaway XR Pro irons 3-A off ebay for £250. They're quite a bit different than the Executives but are slightly lacking the 'feel' I got with those, but I think they're keepers (they look ssoooo nice). Love your content and appreciate your honesty James. Cheers, from Salisbury East, South Australia.
I have always hit game improvement irons as a 18 handicap. I have been playing a lot and have my handicap down to a 15. In the past I have played Ping G10 and more recently Ping G400. I love the forgiveness they gave. In a recent fitting, they put me into the JPX Forged Irons which performed the best compared to Ping G410, Callaway Rogue, Srixon Z785s, JPX Hot Metal. I admit, I worry these will not have enough forgiveness for my game. I still need a lot of forgiveness. The clubs look fantastic and feel fantastic though and produced the best launch numbers.
I would love to see a comparison of these clubs vs. an older club like a Hogan Apex Plus iron. The Hogan Apex Plus irons are a forged iron with a slight cavity. I have a set I picked up for a small sum and they had a following in their day. It would be interesting to see the numbers on the monitor and on the course. Thank you for all the videos!
James great comments on not being able to label clubs mid handicap. Yesterday I hit 7 of 9 GIR which is typical but i play to a 9.9. I had two double bogeys, one caused by a bad tee shot and the other a 3 putt (which I had two). My theory is to play with the most forgiving equipment you can stand to look at. The game is hard enough i'll take all the help i can get. Cheers!
James, great idea of showing in different scenarios as opposed to blasting on the range. I would be interested to see a head to head of the P760 against Mizuno MP18MMC or P790 versus JPX 919 Forged. The same idea for testing/reviewing hybrids would be a good watch.
I don't consider myself a mid handicap player, more of a single digit player, but I am loving my Taylormade P760's. Decided to move into them from the P730's. Loving the extra help on the occasional off center hit, I mean even Jason Day is playing them. Smaller compact head, with a little help, MONEY!!! A little something on price, I got mine for $829.99 US off of Ebay with the shaft I needed and wanted!
I tested the Titleist AP-3, Ping i-210 and the Cobra Forged Tec Black irons last year at my local golf store, Carl's Golfland in Michigan. I ended up getting the cobras. I was able to play about twice a week all last year which was nice. Really happy with the Cobras. I would have to agree with James though, the feel of the Pings wasn't what I was hoping for, and I went in wanting the Pings.
I got the Mizuno 919 last month to replace my 850 very happy with the change. I have a slightly lower ball flight with more controls on my Draw and Fade shots, also got about 3-5 more yards. Well worth the upgrade, I also love the matt finish.
10 hcp here..... and it's my short game that suffers due to lack of practice time. Ball striking however has always been pretty good. I would like to see a long iron and short iron test between the 919F and P760. The P760 (7iron) is a hollow speedfoam iron to promote forgiveness and distance (good for the mid handicapper). Maybe that's why it was less workable than the mizuno? The 8-P are standard forged body irons. I like that the P760's are somewhat of a combo set. Hollow body forgiving long-mid irons with standard forged scoring clubs. Great video and thank you!
For me as a mid handicap player im watching this video now because I don't want to spend the premium money on brand new irons. However, everything from the last couple of years is now about half price used. I've been looking at the i200 for about a week but I was tokd to check out Mizunos as well. Thank you for the video!
I just put a new fitted set of AP2’s in the bag after a very close call with the JPX forged. My golf goal is to break into single figures from 14 (and stay there!) by the end of our Aussie summer. Enjoying the content mate! One suggestion would be listing the video links you talk about below your description, and only having prominent links flash through the video. Over saturation gets people ignoring them after the first 2 or so.. Keep up the good work and come to visit us in the warmer climate!
Just looking forward for the 2018 irons to be discounted. How about the best affordable mid handicap irons for guys who cannot afford to buy the newest overly expensive irons.?
Enjoying your vids ,keep up the good work . Have noticed that there is no mention of the new Srixon irons . I would have thought the new 785 s would be a great compare to the irons used in this video. Are there issues with availability etc that make these new irons almost invisible to You Tube reviewers like yourself . Cheers to your continued success
Having watched the video I’d walk into the shop with the intention of buying the Mizzys. I’m pretty sure though that once I got the P760’s in my hand I’d fall in love.
James. I have a question. What do you think the percentage is of non pro scratch player who don't use or need to use blades but instead use low to mid game improvement irons? In one of your tests you asked your self ,why am I using blades? when the test irons did all you wanted, . My golf swing started at 28 HC. Ive been using TM R7irons all that time and am now down to 10-11 HC I have had games down to 3 over the card a lot of times now. Really I would consider my self a 7HC with the old clubs. what stops me from being a scratch player is my putting and my head game. Blades would not necessarily bring my HC down..i wouldn't think. I would love you to do a test on a 3 to scratch player who uses blades and give him a set of Say MP18mmc or srixon z585, Ping I210 or TM 790 and see if they still go around as they would with their blades? That would be something I'd love to see.
Hey mate! It all comes down to spin rates and feel really. Are you getting the right launch numbers along with how many times do you miss the centre of the face
Researching models that are currently or likely to be replaced in the next few months. Looking for clubs that I can play for about 5 years as I work hard on my game and fitness. Thank you James for your candid review.
Ping or Srixon for me, loved the Ping when I tested them. But in reality there are no bad clubs are there? And last year's clubs are no worse than this year's.
Very informative video, thanks James After not playing for many years, I'm getting back into it and looking to upgrade my old 21AD millenniums, my 7 iron is about 38 degrees Looking for something that performs best for me with accuracy and distance
I chip with a 7 iron quite often, and on looks and that fade shot, I´d go for the Mizuno out of the three. And yes, I reckon we´re all always looking at new clubs, we´re all magpies.. ;) the big question is, can we sneak them in the house without the mrs noticing ;)
Wish I could afford new irons,, I’ve come back o golf after a 10yr break. Still playing with my old Taylormade X-03 irons, I’ll probably look at some second hand clubs but I still enjoy the reviews they’re very entertaining.
With Irons unlike Drivers there are almost no gains in distance or forgiveness year on year, I had planned to change my Irons this year but couldn't find anything that gave me improvements over my current gamers. Although I love the look of the latest JPX 919's and the new Srixon Z Irons, unless they give me more I'm not going to change. Next year I'm planning to change my Wedges and will probably invest in a new Putter as that is where my shots will be gained. Goals for next year; Play more golf, practice or and enjoy my golf more (smile before and after every shot)!
Well said! I am still using 712 AP1's and don't feel I am striking the ball well enough to spend money on new irons that I don't feel I will get the best out of. I like the comment about smiling before and after every shot, that's what golf is about.
I got fitted for. Set of LYNX VT irons. Started playing regularly last summer. Fitted in February arrived in March went from 23.4 to 18.1 so far this year. None of the YOU TUBE guys even tested them. Lynx have them Only available via club professionals well worth a try
i just bought 2hand srixon clubs ... 545/745 ... 4-5 iron 545 6-pw 745 ... hope they are gonne give me more feel over mt nike vapor fly pro .... and have u85 13* and a u65 24 * .. so my 4 iron is not going in the bag ... thinking of getting a Awedge in srixon 585
I was looking to replace my 5 year old MP59s and while I was intending to stay with Mizuno, decided to get a set of AP2s instead - a little less feel but more solid feeling...
I bought P760 5 to PW left handed Gold 105vss steel shafts had them a year and handicap down from 17 to 11. You need to think about every iron shot and unlike huge game improver irons were you get away with bad strikes. Will keep them for along time fantastic iron
I love my 919’s. I have the recoil F4 shaft in 5-GW. Not only do they feel great, but they perform exactly how I expect them to. In regards to your “stopping” question, Yes it’s very important. I’m very much a feel player and I love playing 3/4 and knock down shots and the jpx responds well to them. In regards to handicap your right about clubs shouldn’t be labels for handicap. I’m a 6hcp, I’m not a big hitter my driver carries about 200m and my 7iron carries about 135m. I keep my handicap because I’m consistent and my pitching and irons from inside 130m is normally strong so I can recover a few pars/birdies. I choose irons that feel nice, have a little bit of help, launch reasonably high, easy to control and lastly have a decent distance for my swing speed.
I'm a high handicap player and I bought the Mizuno JPX 919 Hot Metal irons this year and they are great. If or when I decide to get new irons in the future it would be difficult to convince me to get any other than Mizuno's. My goal is to be a mid handicap player by the end of the year.
Really enjoyed this comparison of clubs currently on my radar for next year, already 50 range balls each with the Ping i200 and JPX forged, Mizuno came out on top. Interested to put it against the P760 before deciding which to go with. Taylormade needs to be special to justify price difference though.
I am absolutely needing to move up in irons this year. Using 10 year old X22 callaways. the Mizuno's look sooo good. I'm debating those, or the new F9's from Cobra.
I was re-watching your video on my computer screen (watched on my phone in the gym the first time) just now and I couldn't help but notice just how nice the Mizuno looks as compared to the other 2. They are just so pretty. I will say this, if it wasn't for the George Foreman grill on the back of the TaylorMade's they'd be my favorites. They remind me so much of the old Hogan Radials that I played in High School (till I switched to Apex's for my senior year). I really miss those clubs. :0)
I like that you are not full of yourself..very refreshing. Do you think a senior with a ~90 mph driver club head speed could successfully get everything out of them that you do?
I can’t see why not. 90 or above is a great number with a mid iron. Depends how you deliver the club etc but good luck to you? Can’t be full of myself with a backswing like that! Ey! 😊⛳️🔥🎥
Great job as usual. What kinda vids do you plan on doing during the winter months when the weather is awful? Plans for 2019 is: New everything including bag and budget permitting an electric trolley.
Still using the tour burners. Bought new titelist ap2s and they great no doubt! But I guess the burners are perfect for the game I play. Don't get distracted by "new technology" I still break 70 consistently with both sets of irons. Love your videos! Liked and subscribed!
Your comment about "Mid Handicap" is well taken. I never really thought about it before but it's so true that there is no such thing as a true mid handicap cookie cutter player. For example, I'm currently a very annoyed 10HCP. I will shoot anywhere from 75-83 on given day. It's largely dependent on how consistently I've been able to practice going into the round. Regardless not all parts of my game are equal: Driver - I hit my driver, a Titleist TS3, around 300yds total distance on average and hit 90% of fairways....that's not mid HCP, is it? FWY/Hybds - I'm really good off the tee and off the turf from long distance with my 3wd and 19/22* hybds. I can shape shots and I hit my spots more often than not. MID HCP? Irons - I have been around 42% GIR with my irons for the last 2 years...DEFINITELY MID HCP . Since I've adapted to my AP3s I've been closer to 65% and have gotten my 2 year average up to around 48%. Does that make me a MID HCP iron player? Wedges - I rarely miss a green from 155yds and in and am more focused on hitting spots on the green to give me an uphill putt whenever possible. I manage to hit my spot a good 50% of the time and am in the general "neighborhood" most of the time. Is that MID HCP? Short Game - Chipping is not my strong suit. I consistently get it to 10 feet on chips off of good lies but should get it closer. My technique is not the problem . It's more a lack of practice and so a lack of feel for the distance when i'm standing over the chip! Does that make me a MID HCP player? Putting - I average 1.89 strokes per round, even though, weirdly i'm right at 2.01 on GIR ... go figure. Maybe I chip a little better than I thought? :0) I average one three putt ever 4 -5 rounds, so not often. MID HCP Player? So does all that make me a MID HCP player? Or is it more that I play like a low to scratch player ( I used to play to scratch before I had kids) in some aspects of the game and stink at others, mostly the parts that require touch and control) due to my lack of playing time? I honestly don't know! This was a fun exercise....now I know what I need to work on...lol :0)
For 2019I just want to develop a feel for the sweet spot and to know when I am on or off it. I have a set of Miura forged irons, an Odyssey putter, and some Ping wedges. That is enough for now. Once I have advanced to at least a half swing, that is I am a beginner, then I may consider a driver, a wood, or a hybrid. I also have some impact tape. I like the golf course you were on in this video. It looks very country, very rough, almost as if you were on a hike. No golf carts. As a beginner I cannot lean to heavily on equipment nor can I afford to buy a new set of irons since I doubt they will help me anyway. However, I do like knowing what is out there and why people might be interested in them. I like keeping my clubs clean and am surprised when I see golf carts pass me ( I am walking) that have some pretty beat up looking clubs. After all they are expensive and it doesn’t take much to give them some TLC now and then. Maybe you could video some golf practice on a foggy moor, or on a seaside golf course. How do you nail a green when you can not even see it? How can you penetrate through high wind? What kind of friendly pub/clubhouse awaits you when you have put some hard practice in?
Used to play MP52 and switched to ping a few years ago. I like the Pings but I miss that buttery feel of the Mizunos. That’s a nice looking club. Never been a fan of Taylormades. Would love to see some power drains on irons and how to correct.
Another great video. Really liked this one. I play Ping G with a couple Ping 700 long irons. Love the 700. I want to hit the Taylormade and the Mizuno. Great great great video!!! Thank you for the work!
Best irons review I've seen in years. A true comparison. Not just some pro banging balls up a range but shaping balls and playing shots.
Great video as always James
I have just taken delivery of my I210 and really happy with them I tried various other brands but really enjoyed the feel of the 210s and the consistent distances I get with them
Always enjoy your videos so I watch everything you produce even if the topic is not particularly relevant for me.
Thanks mate really appreciate the comment. Good luck with your comeback!
Any advice?
In 2019 I've 3 goals, recover from ankle surgery, groove a new set of irons and most importantly, sort out those bleedin' wedges.
I just bought a set of the Mizuno 919 forged and love them. Switched from Ping irons. Great feel, height and length when hitting
Loving the channel mate, I've just purchased the 919 forged and absolutely love them, from the word go, so soft, hugely consistent. Add in that I went from reg flex shafts to c-taper 130's, so fair to say the last set weren't a good fit. Keep up the great work!
Thanks Ben! Really appreciate that mate
I really enjoy your videos. Lots of good info. Enjoyable, quick paced, never boring. Simply superb production.
Great video James. Went out and got Mizuno JPX 919 Hot Metals. Love them! Old irons were 30 years old. What a difference with today's technology!
Your kind of prophetic in that you called just about every goal for 2019.... great job with this lesson, thanks...
Hi James,
Really liked the review format you did here on the course - particularly the shot into the wind and how they react - good to see them tested head-to-head in the real world. There's a place for launch monitors as a baseline but this comparison was really informative.
Thanks again for all the effort you make in taking your content forward...
Srixon worthy of a mention too!
All I can test is what I have. ⛳️🎥👍🏼🔥
It's the ball softness around the green that counts. Forged is noticeable from about 30 yards with the extra bite.
Any suggestions would help
And yes, lol, I know about fitting.
"Don't show this to my wife."
If I "had" to buy new irons, I would look hard at the Mizunos, TM 760s and probably the Ping i500s
I bought the hot matal and i love them now thinking of these forged
Can’t go wrong with them Robert!
Cheers!
I would love a set of the Mizunos. Every review I've seen say they feel amazing and I'm a feel player for sure
Play an old set of Mizuno MX20's. Soft forged and forgiving all with a thin top line. Haven't found anything modern that compares
Just getting back into my golf and been binge watching your videos on nightshift loving them well done keep up the amazing work. Why have I yet to see you do anything callaway related??? Also you have some how managed to make me want to go buy a M3 driver 🤣🤣🤣🤣
Hahaha thanks Daz! Hope the night shift wasn’t too bad! I’m struggling to get hold of anything callaway at related! Hopefully in the future!
Recently bought mizuno jpx 919 irons as they felt fantastic when getting fitted. Soft and long, lots of feel. Can’t wait to pick them up!
I really like your club comparisons, I wish you would do something on clubs for senior golfers.
I’ve not played golf in about 8 years until this last week. Played 9 with my 10 yr. old boy (who is in love with the game) and have been inspired to pick up the clubs again. I’d consider myself somewhere between a beginner and intermediate , taller player 6’4”
With that being said, it’s time to pick up a new set of clubs.
Really love the 919 and that's the bottom line. Don't like the vertical strips on the back of the 760.
it is srixon or mizuno for me .. i playes nike vapor fly pro for 2 years now .. time for something new
Srizon are beautiful I agree with you, tough choice.
By the way the Nike vap is an excellent club.
Yes, took an instant dislike to the TMs, looks like a set of railings!
Ive hit all three of these. The 919 tends to balloon and you dont have much feel. The ping is nice and stable but a bit of a dull strike. The 760s definitely had the best feel but the head is small so you have to be a good golfer to use them.
Still have the Srixon 545 irons with the steel fibers! love them but need a little more height (being a low ball hitter)
Mizuno for me, thinking of a change from g410 as distances vary significantly
Excellent comparison, great choice of irons! Keep up the great work you really have everything rolling now!
Thanks Mike! Really appreciate the messages of support. Glad you enjoyed it
James great comments on not being able to label clubs mid handicap.
760 is just amazing, sound, look, feel. It does not go far but the feel, oh my god. Tried a bunch but taylormade created a perfect set.
Great video James! I just ordered the Mizuno 919 Forged, can't wait to get them on the course and play them.
Excellent video. I can definitely see a Mizuno combo set in my near future!
Love it!
Great resource 3 years later, got offered some mint P760s that I’m considering. Currently play ap2 716s
James can u please make a video on match play and course management. Keep up the good work
I tested the Titleist AP-3, Ping i-210 and the Cobra Forged Tec Black irons last year at my local golf store, Carl's Golfland in Michigan.
Currently, I'm still using my old PING EYE 2+, distance and control for me.
Just looking forward for the 2018 irons to be discounted.
How about the best affordable mid handicap irons for guys who cannot afford to buy the newest overly expensive irons.?
James , had i210 September ping fitting service second to none and fitting is most important
Im a ping man but those mizunos
mark hodgson but those prices though?
Me too, I wonder if Ping will take note regarding the reviewer's forged comment?
Never played a forged iron love my i200 feel soft to me
Enjoying your vids ,keep up the good work . Have noticed that there is no mention of the new Srixon irons . I would have thought the new 785 s would be a great compare to the irons used in this video. Are there issues with availability etc that make these new irons almost invisible to You Tube reviewers like yourself . Cheers to your continued success
Thanks mate! Yeah they just won’t reply to my messages so I’ve stopped trying
Having watched the video I’d walk into the shop with the intention of buying the Mizzys. I’m pretty sure though that once I got the P760’s in my hand I’d fall in love.
Great video! Definitely tempted to get the Mizuno. Have even put my One Lengths up for sale. Shame you’re so far away or I’d be up for a fitting.
James. I have a question. What do you think the percentage is of non pro scratch player who don't use or need to use blades but instead use low to mid game improvement irons?
In one of your tests you asked your self ,why am I using blades? when the test irons did all you wanted, .
My golf swing started at 28 HC. Ive been using TM R7irons all that time and am now down to 10-11 HC
I have had games down to 3 over the card a lot of times now.
Very informative video, thanks James
After not playing for many years, I'm getting back into it and looking to upgrade my old 21AD millenniums, my 7 iron is about 38 degrees
Looking for something that performs best for me with accuracy and distance
Thanks Mark!
Thanks Colin, glad you liked the comment. I'm hoping that now I have reached my mid 60's I can finally cut myself some slack out on the course.
I got fitted for. Set of LYNX VT irons. Started playing regularly last summer. Fitted in February arrived in March went from 23.4 to 18.1 so far this year. None of the YOU TUBE guys even tested them. Lynx have them Only available via club professionals well worth a try
Many years ago (when I had hair) I had a set of Black Cat Irons, they were great Irons!
i just bought 2hand srixon clubs ...
OK, now your going to have to get your hands on the new "PTx Pro" Hogan irons.
Everything but distance.. You can hit it so far, but it dosent help if you cant work the club or dont like the looks of them..
Ey! 😊⛳️🔥🎥
90 is the driver. I am sure it is much lower with an iron. My 7 is around 130 yds. I am 71. Be safe & thanks for much for your excellent videos.
Hi James really enjoyed this , good info on all the clubs I have Taylor made RSI1 irons at mo and am very happy with them .
Nice video James.
I like your enthusiasm.
Hi James, Will you be testing the new Srixon's Z785 and Z585? I'm torn between the JPX Forged and the Srixons
I love the jpx919 and the p760 and I am looking for new irons for next year
Great job as usual.
I've had my Ping i210's for 3 years and I don't see myself changing, best irons I've ever used.
Regardless not all parts of my game are equal:
Driver - I hit my driver, a Titleist TS3, around 300yds total distance on average and hit 90% of fairways....that's not mid HCP, is it?
This was a fun exercise....now I know what I need to work on...lol
