Thank you. really well done comparison.. The Eastman is brighter - not necessarily a good thing. The Eastman is more Taylor-y, if you like that. But the Gibson sounds like a Gibson, darker, smokier, and I just like that sound best. All y'all should just love what you love best. Play on.

You can experiment with tone by strings and bridge pins. Certainly what comes stock can be cistomized.

I love my J-45 but I also just bought a like new e1SS for $600. The Eastman sounds really really good for price. To my ear it is louder, brighter, and a bit punchier than the J45. I really like open pore finishes so I am sure I will love the e1ss. Thanks for this comparison.

Excellent guitars- Gibson sounds more like a sad guitar with rich and complex tone. Eastman seems to be more of an "open happy" guitar (not quite as happy as Martins).
Sorry for lack of better terminology. Proud owner of an Eastman myself! Best guitar for the price!

That is so perfect! My E1D is on the way and I can't wait. I had a J-45 for decades and while I loved it for some aspects, that "sad" guitar aspect always bugged me, and made me yearn for a D-18. To my old ears, the E1D has some of the nicer J-45 elements, with some sparkle.

Fundamentally a dreadnought size body with a short scale. I think the x bracing pattern is much the same as the longer scale dreads?

Gibson sounds clearer and better balanced in the mids and bass and warmer tone to my ears.

Definitely like the Eastman better with this one. More bass, fuller, richer sound. The J45 does, however, sound closer to a J45, which I guess shouldn’t be surprising.

Agree the 2 guitars do not sound the same. The Eastman is definitely warmer. I do prefer the sound of the Eastman. Would I buy a Chinese made guitar? Not sure I would.

Eastmans sounds great next to the 45. Maybe to my taste the 45 is more balanced and sings a bit more. But who am I to judge.

  • @brucemarrs2596

Gibson for string balance as always. Eastman for projection. Eastman bass strings sound a bit woofy to my ear, will probably improve with time and exercise.

  • @Mittelbrunn
    @Mittelbrunn 16 дней назад

In my opinion the J45 wins all the way. No contest here. The Eastman is cheaper and I think it's a decent guitar for the money, but it sounds A LOT less refined. I have one E1ss so I now well.

  • @michaelbalance98

To my ear, the Eastman cuts through a little bit more due to its Adirondack top and the midrange sounds more punchier than the Gibson

I'm a big J-45 fan but Eastman is equally on par with the quality of sound...brighter but so well balanced. Torn between the E1SS vs the E10SS. Choices choices.

You know Julien, all J45's are a little different and Eastman's are hand made so each is a little different. When buying a used J45 without playing it, try to get the story why is it for sale? Cause a good J45 is hard to part with.

Julien From id personally do the Eastman. I don’t particularly care for the choked muted sound I seem to always hear in Gibson’s. Sound good as accompaniment but I like clear bell like highs that Eastman and Martin provides.

  • @billsmith3042

The gibson sounds more like a D-18, but the Eastman is more like a rosewood D-28. Sapele is very dense and stiff giving a brighter sound anyway and more punch in the bass and mid, and add the adirondack top so just wow wow wow wow. That J45 is so nice and rounded and smooth in its overtones, but a fairer comparison would be that Gibson j45 studio rosewood with the eastman. I have two addy top guitars and found that I can be very gentle with them and get rich overtones...very easy to overplay an addy top guitar when strumming.
