The sunburst model sounds much deeper and more full. The natural one sounds OK but more “dry” with less sustain and overtones. The E10SS sounds incredible on full chord strums.
Hello Ian, Thanks for this nice shootout ! :) I actually am thorn between those 2 models, can have the e10ss new at an incredible price but prefer a bit the look of the e1ss in classic finish. In your video i find the e10ss more full sounding, more volume and presence, is it also true when you play them or is it the video (mic placement, etc...) that gives this impression ? What are your thoughts on them regarding tone ? Which one do you prefer ? Thanks for you reply :)
I would say that the e10SS is a better sounding guitar to my ears. The mahogany isn't as bright and cutting as the sapele, but more balanced and rich while still retaining some that brightness. I think it's just a matter of what you're looking to hear because both are great guitars, but in my opinion the e10 wins from a pure acoustic sound perspective. I don't think you could go wrong with either.
the 10 has more overtones in the treble, but the 1 has more in the mid which I prefer...makes it sound like a Martin D-28. Both seem equal in the lower range.
Great comparison! Thanks for putting this out there.

Nice video...Just got a Eastman E100-LTD #31. Brand new in the box.
Clear win for the hog. And I'm a sapele fan and E1D owner.

@@ianmeadows6351 Thanks for your answer, I think i will give the e10ss a try and order it :)
@@PinkFloydish How is it holding up? Thinking about selling my J-45 for one of these.. would you recommend?
So, is the finish the only difference? gloss vs. varnish?
The e1ss has sapele back and sides and a factory installed pickup

If you want a Martin soundyou should be looking at the E10d.
Thee e10ss is meant to sound more like the Gibson slope shoulder models.
