Honestly, it would've been hilarious if all the other bosses in The Origami King were unique characters, and then suddenly a photorealistic stapler attacks you.
True , the problem with the current bosses is, the stapler is less funny when theres a box of crayons and scissors not far after, and the novielty wears off fast after that. rubber band was the only one to actually have anything interesting going on, but by the time you neat him the jokes already gotten old.
But then people would complain about 1. Sticker Star/Color Splash flashbacks. And 2. The other bosses not being like it. And yes, I know the latter is ironic.

either that, or an Unbaba. that is uh, "blargg" or "nep-enut" if you're huffing the dub fumes. Big long thing that raises and lowers, with a pair of staple-spaced teeth, works for me.
3:04 Unlike Yoshis, other Birdos are so rarely seen that I wouldn't be surprised if most people think there's only the main one instead of it being a species. I actually did until Mario Kart Tour brought back the other colors.
That animation of Mario getting cut in half by the scissors would go 10x harder with a shy guy samurai saying the equivalent of "omae wa mou shindeiru" as he does it.
I feel like Bobby being a generic Bob-Bomb actually fits the themes of his arc. He's just a dime-a-dozen mook who's destined to have a short, uneventful life, so he has to make the most of it and leave as big of an impact as possible. He might not be "unique", but he still is a person at the end of the day. Not everyone is a super cool and unique individual, and Bobby shows that even an average joe can be cool if they tried. Not being a Nintendo shill, I love your redesigns and I think they are better. I'm just putting my two cents in this.
I think the idea that Bobby's design would change slightly the longer he was with Mario & Olivia could show how he starts to view himself as an actual person & not just a weapon (like Olivia making him a fake Origami fuse as a gift, then him using it later instead of just getting one from his dead friend)
@@Mushie_lol This is a great idea, though the origami fuse would negate any reason to visit the Princess Peach. Considering Olivia’s innocent nature, she would maybe instead fold a flower to take up the fuse spot, though it doesn’t actually function as a real fuse, and Bobby would still need to get a real one from the ship.
this is exactly my interpretation of his inception the developers went 'we can't make unique mario enemies? ok then we'll take a generic one and have his story be that he doesn't want to be generic' -the airship shootemup section really sells this btw- -King Olly's motivation also implies this kinda developer mindset-
I agree that Paper Mario fan designs often get too busy or overdesigned, but tbh Mario Wonder had a ninja master Poplin whose only distinguishing factor was his color, so I'd rather have the visual flair lol
@@ucantbeme Fair point, I meant the designs of the enemies in Wonder, not the NPCs. The uniqueness, and business of the design should *Scale* with how important they are.
To be fair, the birdo in the nupaper mario trilogy actually WAS the same birdo each time, it was supposed to be a subplot of her starting a music career (which would have been a GREAT sidequest or even an entire chapter in a *good* paper mario game)

In light of the fact that Harry Gold may not have actually *played* Origami King before making these (overall pretty good) redesigns, I'm reminded of a classic line from Super Paper Mario's third chapter. "I love going on message boards and complaining about games I've never played!"
Can everybody start replying to people hating on TOK despite clearly never playing it with that quote? Or really any underrated game that is overhated?
The redesigns of the bosses are cool even if I already like the Legion of Stationery. The one BIG problem I have with them are that you completely replaced their personalities and just made a different character when their personalities were what made me love the silly office supplies so much.
This. Theres still some creative ideas you can do with them. Hole puncher could have castanets for hands that do the hole punching. (I know it’s used for a different type of dancing, but you could still keep everything else relatively the same)
Y'all in this comment thread are seriously gonna gaslight me into thinking that some faceless bland office supplies have an actual fleshed out personality? Man your standards have been seriously lowed by Sticker Star and Color Splash let me tell ya
@@annacarozza9812 I mean, they DO have personalities though? I mean, it isn't a ton, but just because the character design is bland doesn't mean the writing is (which kinda encapsulates Paper Mario: Color Splash and Paper Mario: The Origami King, now that I think of it). EDIT: This doesn't mean I think the designs were good, I still would've loved for them to be, y'know, actual designs, but don't diss the writers is all I'm saying.
Colored Pencils’s redesign looks the best because he actually kind of looks like an eccentric artist, if a bit clowny. Maybe he could borrow from the actual design and have a massive mouth with colore pencil’s for teeth. Rubba doesn’t really fit the pompous actor personality though, it should’ve been a fabulous shy-guy (or girl). The rubber-band body should be kept while the mask is attached to the main rubber band, aka the one remaining at the end of the fight. Hole Punch should wear a disco-headgear with holes punched in it and also have some kind of clamp for a mouth, maybe a modified piranha plant. Tape should definitely be a Doogan in a stereotypical greaser outfit and a comically long and stick hairstyle, since there’s a disco Doogan in TTYD. Scissors’s redesign is alright, but he should take the dual-bladed duelist title seriously and have one blade which is covered up during his first phase, which splits into two that he uses for his second phase. I’m taking some inspiration from another comment on this video, but Stapler should definitely be a long, rectangular chain-chomp with staple teeth.
I agree with most of the generic NPC redesigns, but the Stationery bosses are perfect the way they are. It is true that they technically don’t have good “Designs” with what they all are, (Although all the main bosses except the final being evil inanimate objects is really funny) but whats important I think is that they ARE actually unique characters. In sticker star all the bosses where just bigger normal Mario enemies, and in color splash it was just the Koopalings. But all the stationary have unique personalities and features. -the Colored pencils act as almost an army, speaking as a group and firing like a missile launcher (also there dialogue is rainbow colored. How fun) -The rubber bands are an actor, so they “act” humanoid. -The hole puncher is a disco enthusiast, and dances by shuffling around on its side. -The Tape is a cartoonish gangster, and starts rolling around when you break his dispenser. -The scissors are a swordsmen (Haha get it, because blades) -and the stapler is literally a dog. While they don’t look cool, they all do very fun things, and their weirdly simple designs adds to their charm I think.
His designs were of the characters _before_ they got transformed into those beings. I don’t like the designs because they are quite generic. But I do like that they’re not just flat portraits, but 3D paper/origami models. Helps them stand out, make sense they’d be different if they transformed, and obviously, the game is named “Origami King” so they should be origami.
@@mrshmuga9The Legion of Stationery were always tools though. The story makes it clear that they were literally just inanimate tools before they were given life. I still like the designs in this video, but they realistically would not exist in the game either way.
Birdo's redesign looks like the kind of character who really can't resist Mario's paper stache with a kiss, just like what his female partners did in _Paper Mario: Thousand Year Door._ A deluge of regrettable fan art of the new Birdo is going to give everyone Art Attack.
When you say "Birdetta", you're refering to Birdo, right? I ask this because I've haven't seen any other official media called Birdo this, besides "Birdie" from the Super Mario RPG Series. @@fizzipawp_z
I really love the use of the Phanto Mask on the Color Pencil Boss, fits the theme and is a nice callback to Super Mario Bros. 2 Also the Caricature is a FANTASTIC rendition of the 9th Doctor aka Christopher Eccelston.
It doesn’t fit Colored Pencils in any way whatsoever, it would be more fitting on Rubber Band because of the whole theatre comedy and tragedy mask thing.
Doesn’t fit the characters personality, though your idea somehow comes closer than what Harry went with. You both clearly didn’t play the game, though.
7:19 Wha-HUH?! Did you PLAY that chapter? That would ruin the theming! Bowser’s Castle crashed into a sky oasis and Bowser’s minions are stuck on clean up and mandatory volunteer work for the damage the castle did. Kamek being here MAKES SENSE and having someone so concerned with Bowser Jr’s wellbeing who is not some random slack jawed nobody is a part of why you’re on the quest to revive him to begin with!
While I love the designs you made for the Legion of Stationery, I feel like they just dont fit the idea of the personalities established (With the exception of Scissors). Colored Pencils looks too cheerful for a cynical artist who hates critics. Rubba dosnt fit the theatrical aura and poses that Rubber Bands has. Hole Punch feels less like a disco maniac who collects records and faces and more like a posh vampire/magician. And Tape was just completely changed from a mobster with a short temper and dirty tactics to a goofy genie. I think the art and idea behind approaching each of the stationery bosses was smart, and the designs are great on their own, they just dont fit the ideas and personalities that were established with these characters, as simple as they might have been
Since the Colored Pencil acts like missile launcher, I think the boss should be depicted as a military officer, similar to General Guy from _Paper Mario 64,_ but keeps Phanto Mask design.
@@poweroffriendship2.0I believe that a Colored Pencils redesign should be a mix of a psychotic drill sergeant and a angry art snob with a stereotypical French accent.
i think it'd be neat to see the Pixls from Super Paper Mario as actual partners rather than tools. I like their simplistic computeresque designs, but I'm interested in what other species they could have used in their place.
It looks like Christopher Eccleston, specifically when he played the 9th doctor. Honestly, I thought your design for the cleaning Magikoopa was super in-line for the whole vibe of the series, and would have made a much more memorable companion than what we got. Well done.
I personally think Bob-Omb should be the ONLY entirely unoriginal design. His arc is about discovering he’s a mass produced factory bob-omb and embracing his Kamikaze role. It’s a delightfully fucked up story I think only works if he’s not the variety of Bob-omb we see consistently survive their own explosions.
11:28 i will say that kinda runs the character of Tape who is actually more a mobster with a pompadour so we could make it more the dispenser a car and the tape some slick back fella to combine 2 and 4
Honestly, a lot of these redesigns have massive “I haven’t played the origami king” energy. Like they’re not bad designs in general in fact they’re quite good. The issue is they’re not good redesigns because they don’t fit the characters they’re redesigning and some of them are just straight up unnecessary. And I will explain why first off the table, coloured pencils, or Jean-Pierre Colored Pencils the 12th if you want to use his full name. While a pencil gesture using a phantom mask is actually quite a nice design. It gives us more of a kooky, funny, someone who doesn’t take anything seriously vibes rather than the artistic snob that colour pencils is. Plus, how are you gonna explain him shooting missiles out of his body? Secondly, we have rubber bands, which turning her into a Cubba just doesn’t really fit with her vain, spotlight stealing actress personality, and how are you going to illustrate her gimmick of her rubber bands falling off and and then coming back to her to heal. Next is the disco devil, hole punch, I actually quite like this design having a vampire piranha plant with holes in his wings where it spots would be actually quite creative… but it doesn’t fit hole punch. I mean he’s basically disco stew, a vampire does not fit that vibe at all although one like the others I can imagine the hole punch attack working with this design so good job there. Next up Sticky Tape which… you honestly just made a new character, because that is not sticky tape in the slightest! This is a generic genie made out of tape, not a New York mafia goon who has a thing for motorcycles. and again I don’t see how his flight gimmicks can translate to this design. And finally, Scissors, which I’m not gonna lie this is actually a very good design, that actually takes consideration of their personality, although one big gripe I have with it is what’s the point of making the actual pair of scissors paper? That kind of defeats the point of it being scissors, especially since one big mechanical the fight is a fact it can just one shot you because, scissors beats paper. But there is one I would consider major flaw and all of these designs aside from just not really fitting the characters, if they were made by Olly, the origami king, who particularly doesn’t like the paper folk, THEN WHY ARE ALL OF HIS GENERALS MADE OUT OF PAPER?!?! Like seriously, I understand it’s hard to probably draw origami but it’s just doesn’t make sense with Olly character as since the legion of stationary only exist because of Olly. And I’m not done yet there’s still a few more. I need to get through like for example. Kamek and birdo redesigns are completely unnecessary, because these are not like just generic characters of the same species these are THE Kamek and birdo. Kamek specifically since a lot of the chapter revolves around him being Bowser junior caretaker. And honestly, there’s a lot more I could rip into if I’m being honest, but I feel like I’ve written enough and I’ve gotten my point across.
As I’ve said in many comment replies before, “I love going on message boards to complain about games I’ve never played” is basically what Harry is doing, and he’s not cool for it.
Most of these redesigns for the Legion don’t work, so here’s how Harry should’ve done it. Colored Pencils: Make him look like a mix of a psychotic drill sergeant and a French art snob who has a literal tank that shoots out the Pencils. Rubber Band: Give the Colored Pencils Phanto Mask design to her. It would be a lot more fitting since masks are associated with drama. Hole Punch: Make the vampire piranha plant wear disco clothes instead. If that still doesn’t work, make the redesign a scorpion or mummy to fit the desert theme. Tape: Replace the Ghost Genie with a creature that might as well resemble a mobster like a snake. Plus, make the tape redesign actually look like a mobster. Scissors: While Harry’s redesign is pretty good, I would’ve liked it more if the shy guy was actually origami or perhaps a new being who uses the scissors as blades. Stapler: A Large Mechanical Chain Chomp that has a Stapler Cannon inside of it’s mouth that it can use to shoot staples. Now these are better redesigns instead of just random enemies resembling art supplies.
You probably didn't notice it but they gave the tape boss a delinquent personality; like it purposely makes its tape curl up like a pompadour and it talks like one, they made it like a greaser.
Is it the same in Japan because they radically changed things in translation Like the siccors being a sociopath Dr frankstein in Japanese and some honorable swordsman in english
@@TechBlade9000 Scissors still is a sociopath Dr. Frankenstein in English and his “honorable swordsman” facade very quickly falls off when it become clear that he sheathed himself not to give Mario a fair shot, but to toy with him. He is still attributed to the creation of the cutout soldiers and the paper mistake buzzy beetle.
I will say that as much as I like the boss redesigns, it would've been cool to see them reinterpreted following their in-game personalities. Mostly Tape as a gangster, because Nintendo somehow made a piece of tape one of the most entertaining bosses in the entire game.
While the redesigns of the Origami king Bosses are cool they don’t really fit the actual characters. For example: Hole puncher is a dancer, so maybe you could give them Hole punching Castanets? Edit: The Scissor Shy guy is cool tho that one doesn’t need changing
11:11 This is a great design on the most unfitting character and context imaginable. This is supposed to be a replacement for the DISCO DEVIL HOLE PUNCH?! Where’s the party, the disco theming, whatever would make this fitting in a DESERT?!
Hi, I’m a really big fan of your videos. I love not only how you can replicate art styles, but I love how the dreads look so accurate to the UPA cartoons from the 50s. My favorite of your videos is probably the Mocumentary of Homer Simpson.
The art/reimaginings are awesome as always, Harry (I loved your take on the Birdo ballerina in particular), but it’s the little things like singing the names of the other Paper Marios in “Forest Maze’s” melody and “…if your guess last time was the Twitch streamer, Asmond Gold! (No relation…)…” that also keep me coming back for more lol
Sponsors from The Harry Gold Show are the only ones I watch. You manage to make something that should be incredibly cut & dry, & make it entertaining to watch! Also, I'm guessing the caricature is of Toad #5,387 from "Paper Mario: The Origami King". All kidding aside, my real guess is Christopher Eccleston.
I was partially in disagreement on the Origami King bosses. They had very clear personalities to them. But, granting them new forms to MATCH the personalities WOULD have been appreciated.
"This franchise is more saturated with overgrown reptile than a Mark Zuckerburg fan-cam" and "they're frequently mistaken for a pair of Star Wars fans" killed me lol
I like the inanimate object designs due to them being war criminals that are just living objects yet commit worse crimes than most living monsters, also I am fine with Birdo due to the fact she doesn’t get enough major roles in games, but the rest I can get the change
this is a great video, and i really like the designs you created on their own, but a lot of these designs dont relate to the actual characters personalities at all the most egregious example i feel is the redesign you gave to tape. the tapes whole schtick is that hes based off a classic italian mobster, new york/boston accent and all, but your redesign seems like it would fit more in a desert area. in the manga, super mario kun, they even furthered the connection to tape being a mobster by giving him a small redesign, turning his purple dispenser into a bike which i think you couldve used as a reference point here the other bosses have similar issues, not fitting their personality or theme at all, and hole punch especially doesnt look like he’d still be called the “disco devil” at all with this redesign, more fit for a ghost mansion-type area and a small correction about the vellumentals pre-folded designs not being shown; in the concept art section of the in-game museum, there is actually concept art of some of the vellumentals pre-fold, and some statues in the temples theyre found in show what they looked like before as well but dont get me wrong, i really appreciate the work and time you put into making these designs and i absolutely love all of these on their own (captain t. ode as a blooper especially), but **most** of these are not fitting for redesigns of these pre-existing characters
I am pretty sure that the paper mario devs were forced to have just generic npcs, so it’s not entirely their fault, but I’m not denying it would’ve been sick to see all these designs if we could’ve
Ooo! I think that charicature has gotta be Christopher Eccleston, no? I had been rewatching the modern Doctor Who series, really reminded myself of how much I enjoyed Davies' run of the series (and really can't wait to rewatch myself to the soft reboot where he came back in to show run!) and how the 9th doctor has always been my favorite and I still think it's so tragic that Eccleston only stuck around for one season, because in my eyes he was absolutely iconic in that role. By the by, I also wanted to say in these redesigns I really like how you gave them 2 frame idles just to give it that touch bit of more charm.
It's Christopher eccleson. Also, another lovely video from the guy that taught me how to replicate cell animation... even though I couldn't follow it all since I have a different art program.
My first thought for the caricature was Peter Cushing (Btw, I love the design for Hole Punch, that absolutely looks like a man who would deform helpless toads for fun)
I also like the idea that after you beat the Vellumentals, they return to their original forms, allowing you to call for their help in battle… Whereas, Olivia can transform into their Origami forms in the Overworld, to help solve puzzles
I’m going to rank the Legion of Stationery redesigns from Best to Worst. 1. Coloured Pencils Honestly love what you did here. I really like the use of the phanto mask and how you incorporated the pencil missile launchers into the design. 2. Scissors Another great one. Truly looks like an edgy anime villain, giant sword and all. 3. Hole Punch Another really good design. A little disappointed the disco theme was dropped, but I really like the design overall! (Especially the holes in the cape, That’s awesome.) 4. Rubber Band Okay, the quality starts to drop here. You said yourself Rubber Band was the closest thing to an actual design, so why did you make it so generic? The whole point of Rubber Band is to look other worldly, so why is it an existing Mario creature? All the uncannines and flare of the original is gone. 5. Tape Yeah, this is quite bad. Despite his short screen time, the Origami King Team were so clever in how they utilised Tape. His spool being a pompadour, his blade being a brass knuckle, himself being a motorcycle, putting people into “Stick-ups.” It was so clever and I just feel that was completely rid of in favour of something that just feels so much more generic. (Also the Vellumental are too goofy. The whole point is for them to look threatening and monstrous and that’s just not present in these designs)
I respect your opinion. However, I have unfortunately needed to debunk few of your claims. 1: The Phanto Mask Colored Pencils doesn’t fit his personality of an Angry French Art snob. 2: The Scissors redesign is the best because it’s the only one to fit the personality of the original character, who was displayed as this prideful swordsman which is definitely helped by the samurai shy guy with Scissors as a weapon. 3: Harry Gold said that the Vellumentals redesigns are actually what they look like when they are unfolded. The Vellumentals became aggressive due to them being folded so these designs could work for friendlier and unfolded versions of the 4 creatures.
Christopher Eccleston! And seeing as it's on topic, did you know that there was a cancelled American Doctor Who cartoon in the 90s? Definitely something up your ally
I would say that Nintendo should hire Harry, but Harry is too good for them and they'd waste his talent. These new designs are just so much more creative!
oh wow you didn't play this game at all did you? or at least you skipped all the dialogue. many of these designs are good but: If professor toad were a monty mole he wouldn't need the players help finding the 3 underground temples in chapter 3. If captain t.ode were a blooper, he wouldn't need a submarine. And kamek being himself is an important part of chapter 5, he isn't actually a groundskeeper it's a joke played on him. the dynamic between bowser jr and a random brand new magikoopa that has no authority over him would completely change and the paper mistake bossfight wouldnt make sense. why would it be able to use kameks magic if scissors didnt make it using kameks head? These designs are good, but they dont work for origami king, so they're not good redesigns. and it isnt in this video but bobby looking like a generic bob-omb except without a fuse is for a good reason. but I'm proud of you for giving him bandages! you're so original and that doesn't make the redesign less generic! no one has ever given an amnesiac bandages before! all amnesiacs totally keep bandages on their head for the rest of their life after leaving the hospital! the vellumentals are made of origami and the effort the artists behind this game put into making them all look and function as origami took a lot of effort for an amazing end result and you cant deny that it did take work, because you didnt even try to recreate that style in your video, so you didnt actually redesign them! designing new unfolded forms doesnt classify as a redesign but its not a bad idea. regardless, they're gods capable of manipulating reality and their origami forms are a fragment of their true selves, so I dont know how reimagining them as less intimidating and weaker, and more like existing mario characters is good. I guess that koopas are superior in the paper mario universe seeing as they were designed in a gods image, and mario wasnt. the LoS aren't redesigns, they're completely new characters. coloured pencils went from pretentious art snob to court jester. rubber bands went from attention seeking actress to generic grubba (no, just because we haven't seen a grubba for a while, doesn't make the design any less generic). The new york mobster sticky tape becomes a ghost, for some reason, and with a turban, for some reason. (It's important for me to make sure you know that sticky tape is sticky, which goes against a pretty big aspect of ghosts, that they don't make contact with things. This would be a cool character aspect to delve into if there were any thought behind the choice, but you gave it a turban, a goatee and an emo fringe so I doubt there was any thought behind it). The silent swordsman scissors becoming a shy guy works in one aspect (being silent), but Scissors is a) not the boss of an east-asian area so idk where you got that from, and b) is an enemy of regular shy guys. Like in the story it decapitates dozens of shy guys, among other minions. "AH YES! You know what boss should be at this disco at the end of an underground pyramid? A Vampire Piranha Plant!" You could maybe justify putting a piranha plant in a desert underground, but you'd be pushing it if it were the default colours (actual mario games have redesigned piranha plants for desert levels) and completely out of place if it were white (which yours is). Then the disco aspect is completely removed an replaced with a vampire theming, which again, could work in a desert setting if there were any thought behind it. And then the Piranha Plant bites its own body (for some reason) and leaves perfectly circle-shaped holes on its body with teeth that are too far apart from eachother compared to the distance of the holes, and it doesn't have bottom teeth so it can't create the pressure to actually puncture anything. Also the Stapler gets foreshadowed multiple times in ToK and is one of the most loved bosses in the game with arguably the most well-done design (because good design goes beyond visuals, it's also about characterization and animation, among many other things). Also yet again, you missed literally one of the only aspects of staplers design even when you didn't do a design for it. It's a fucking guard dog, how did it live past the age of 50.
I honestly prefer the bosses being just office supplies, making them actual characters not only changes the puzzle element of the fights but also misses the entire point of the joke, I find them being office supplies really funny
Yeah, what's better than a joke repeated 5 times . Like of just 1 of the bosses was randomly officie supplies that would be funny, but the fact is the joke overstays its welcome and the there personalities are the only interesting part. The novelty of talking items isnt gonna carry the fact the bosses are kinda lame outside of there dialogue
@@maverickdarkrath4780Me when I fundamentally misunderstand why the bosses are office supplies to begin with (hint: consider the main villain’s origin and motives)
@@septic_cipher No one's saying that there isn't a reason for the bosses to be office supplies. Just that the reason sucks and the bosses suck, especially in comparison to about any alternative you can think of.
@septic_cipher by that logic, the bosses should have been origami themed . The art supplies bosses only work because of the insistence on everything is paper craft (which is something every game since stricker star repeats on nauseum) there designs (apart from rubber band) are pretty bland once the novelty wears off, I guess tapes pompador is pretty neat, but dosent change the fact it's the only interesting part of his design, and apart from those 2 (and tape is a massive stretch),the design of the office gang is just generic office supplies. Their personalities could be put on actual characters, and you'd get an overall better boss. The theming is pretty weak because, again, it only works with everything is paper, and we're was self-aware stuff. Also, the boss battles in this game are kinda bad, so the puzzle element being lost is arguably a good thing
I like the idea that nin10dohland gave of each of the stationary are legendary weapons, each being used by the generals under olly, so my favorite one has to be the shy guy with the scissors
I genuinely really liked the stationary gang, especially Stapler & Rubber Band they surprisingly had such personality in-game (also Bobby's design was like the whole point of him, he was a replaceable generic Bomb-omb it would've been maybe cool if his design became more special the longer he was with Mario & Oliva, but Idrk)

Really, I’d just like, give Bobby a minor burn mark.
@@Tyranitar. That...could also work.
Considering Olivia’s innocent nature, she would maybe instead fold a flower to take up the fuse spot, though it doesn’t actually function as a real fuse, and Bobby would still need to get a real one from the ship.
this is exactly my interpretation of his inception
the developers went 'we can't make unique mario enemies? ok then we'll take a generic one and have his story be that he doesn't want to be generic'

-King Olly's motivation also implies this kinda developer mindset-
Tbh I feel like they should have a mix of “regular characters” and more unique designs. Basically taking the Mario Wonder approach

(I know it’s used for a different type of dancing, but you could still keep everything else relatively the same)
YES. The designs aren’t BAD, but they do not match the personalities of each character
The bear Foreman Spike joke made me SCREAM lol
How fun)
-The rubber bands are an actor, so they “act” humanoid.
-The hole puncher is a disco enthusiast, and dances by shuffling around on its side.
-The Tape is a cartoonish gangster, and starts rolling around when you break his dispenser. -The scissors are a swordsmen (Haha get it, because blades)
-and the stapler is literally a dog. While they don’t look cool, they all do very fun things, and their weirdly simple designs adds to their charm I think.
agreed
the only redesign that i would like to be kept would be the swordsman shyguy with the scissors, but make them both their own thing
@@mrshmuga9that is only true for the vellumentals

Also the Caricature is a FANTASTIC rendition of the 9th Doctor aka Christopher Eccelston.
how does the Phanto mask fit at all?
It doesn’t fit Colored Pencils in any way whatsoever, it would be more fitting on Rubber Band because of the whole theatre comedy and tragedy mask thing.
Colored Pencils is supposed to be a mix of a psychotic drill sergeant and a French art snob.
10:52 the opportunity to make a boxing character that punched holes in things WAS RIGHT THERE MAN
Doesn’t fit the characters personality, though your idea somehow comes closer than what Harry went with. You both clearly didn’t play the game, though.
Hole punch is a disco dude
3:38 There’s a sense of irony to the simplicity. Hell, it’s their simplicity that leads Olly to his worldview…
That whole part would completely fall flat on its face if not for it being characters that a majority of people will know from other games.
I’d keep the origami craftsman a toad, because ollys entire motivation revolves around toads in general
I think the art and idea behind approaching each of the stationery bosses was smart, and the designs are great on their own, they just dont fit the ideas and personalities that were established with these characters, as simple as they might have been
The samurai was cool tho.
Since the Colored Pencil acts like missile launcher, I think the boss should be depicted as a military officer, similar to General Guy from _Paper Mario 64,_ but keeps Phanto Mask design.

i think it'd be neat to see the Pixls from Super Paper Mario as actual partners rather than tools.
YES. literally this! The designs don’t reflect their personalities whatsoever.
Now these are better redesigns instead of just random enemies resembling art supplies.
imagine someone who only played Origami King plays TTYD remake and sees that Bobbery doesn't die when he explodes unlike bobby lol
9:14 OH MY GOD, I love that design so much. If that was a boss, i'd quit the game and never hurt it. It's that good.
You probably didn't notice it but they gave the tape boss a delinquent personality; like it purposely makes its tape curl up like a pompadour and it talks like one, they made it like a greaser.
the genie idea doesn't really work for the tape since they are characterized as a mobster.

@@MySnugglePuppy Yeah, I don't know where people are honourable swordsman getting from when that was just his way to toy with Mario.

I like the inanimate object designs due to them being war criminals that are just living objects yet commit worse crimes than most living monsters, also I am fine with Birdo due to the fact she doesn’t get enough major roles in games, but the rest I can get the change
this is a great video, and i really like the designs you created on their own, but a lot of these designs dont relate to the actual characters personalities at all
the most egregious example i feel is the redesign you gave to tape. the tapes whole schtick is that hes based off a classic italian mobster, new york/boston accent and all, but your redesign seems like it would fit more in a desert area. in the manga, super mario kun, they even furthered the connection to tape being a mobster by giving him a small redesign, turning his purple dispenser into a bike which i think you couldve used as a reference point here
the other bosses have similar issues, not fitting their personality or theme at all, and hole punch especially doesnt look like he’d still be called the “disco devil” at all with this redesign, more fit for a ghost mansion-type area
and a small correction about the vellumentals pre-folded designs not being shown; in the concept art section of the in-game museum, there is actually concept art of some of the vellumentals pre-fold, and some statues in the temples theyre found in show what they looked like before as well
but dont get me wrong, i really appreciate the work and time you put into making these designs and i absolutely love all of these on their own (captain t. ode as a blooper especially), but **most** of these are not fitting for redesigns of these pre-existing characters

Okay but counterpoint: An actual holepunch flopping around in an attempt to disco dance is one of the funniest moments in the game
I’m going to rank the Legion of Stationery redesigns from Best to Worst.
1. Coloured Pencils
Honestly love what you did here. I really like the use of the phanto mask and how you incorporated the pencil missile launchers into the design.
2. Scissors
Another great one. Truly looks like an edgy anime villain, giant sword and all.
3. Hole Punch
Another really good design. A little disappointed the disco theme was dropped, but I really like the design overall! (Especially the holes in the cape, That’s awesome.)
4. Rubber Band
Okay, the quality starts to drop here. You said yourself Rubber Band was the closest thing to an actual design, so why did you make it so generic? The whole point of Rubber Band is to look other worldly, so why is it an existing Mario creature? All the uncannines and flare of the original is gone.
5. Tape
Yeah, this is quite bad.

”This is mario’s epic adventure”
The only sponsorship segment I will actually watch
oh wow you didn't play this game at all did you? or at least you skipped all the dialogue.
many of these designs are good but:
If professor toad were a monty mole he wouldn't need the players help finding the 3 underground temples in chapter 3.
Concise and an epic burn. Well done.
this video focused soley on the aesthetic, which is what 99% of people seem to only ever care about
what a smug little booger
Brother, when he takes a digital pen and a tablet, he COOKS some REALLY GOOD SHET
11:15 I think he'd be best friends with the Ninja Shy Guy
Amazing designs as usual, Mr. Gold. Also, as a fan of the show, I'm fairly certain that is Christopher Eccleston (played the 9th doctor on Doctor Who)
I honestly prefer the bosses being just office supplies, making them actual characters not only changes the puzzle element of the fights but also misses the entire point of the joke, I find them being office supplies really funny

I made the mistake of not complementing the video when I guest your cousin Asmongold so I’ll do it now, that video was awesome, as is this one.
When harry gold post a video i smile
I really love your videos
And your art skills are amazing, Specially the Art fix videos
Christopher Eccleston; that is my educated guess.
Maybe the stapler can be a chain chomp.
Magikenny is such a god tier name.
Also Christopher Eccleston.
That face is iconic.
Still stunned at how well you can capture the Mario style!!!
As for the caricature, I think I know (Dr) who it could it be! Mr Christopher Eccleston?
0:50 That kind of looks like Harvey Dent from batman the animated series
9:40 thanks Harry now I have that image in my head
ITS CHRISTOPHER ECCLESTON!
Oh man, *Bloobeard* is a KILLER name
Harry Gold is out on it again, fixing broken stuff and making masterpieces.
His designs looks so good
i really wish they were official, i'd love fannart of some of them
He fixed nothing. these are OCs, not redesigns. They don’t fit the character’s established personalities and completely destroy the plot.
Nothing was broken and nothing got fixed.
Nintendo: I'm about to end this man's whole career...
2:02 Is it a crime for me to believe that I favor Snifits more than Shy Guys?
I mean I don’t think so?
Crime
(Jokes)
they’re the same race technically,
So no
11:30 what's ironic is Stapler is one of the few reoccurring characters in Paper Mario appearing as a Thing in Sticker Star
