- On our first "The Surf Show by Magnum Martinez" episode, we feature a surfboard review on an intriguing collaboration by Tomo and Slater Designs, The Omni. We dive into the main aspects of this futuristic and efficient model and brake it down for the benefit of the viewers so they can draw in their own conclusions.
We provide info on different fin templates and set ups, based on the feedback from riding this surfboard in different types of conditions we are able to give you a fresh and honest perspective on the performance of this model.
I picked up one the Omni's 5'8" in Portugal back in July and from the first ride up to now it's my favorite goto board. Looking at it I just think it's a shorter fun board shape but don't let that fool you. It's high performance all the way! I love the acceleration and the flow. It holds very well. It's mind blowing how steep of drop ins I can take with it. I've experienced 100's of surfboard designs and I have to say, It's my favorite from 1.5ft with a little push in the wave up to overhead. Beachbreaks and reefs. I ride alot with the tri fin setup GlassFlex performers Mediums (I'm 175 lbs, 6ft) and I switch to GMB Large Quad setup when I want more hold. I like the large Carver fin tri fin on the reef. But with fins, it personal preference so go out there an experiment, take notes and make adjustments. Different fin shapes really affect the feel of the board combined with the conditions you're riding them in. I also tried the SciFi and I like that as well. With the SciFi model I would take it out on days I want a more pivoty feel or days where it's a bit mushy and the Omni doesn't do as well in mushy conditions. The Omni really lights up when the wave has some push or curl to it even if the wave height is small. Bottom line is for me, I'm selling all my boards in my quiver and I will end up with the Omni and the SciFi. It has me covered from .5 ft up to 7-8ft. That's all I need.
Amazing description Michael! that is spot on how the Omni feels... I agree about the fins and different set ups too, but the more you experiment with it, the better you are off.
Keep surfing and stay tune for a pretty cool board I'm going to be reviewing in the next month or so, can't say much about it yet, but I'm excited about riding it and doing a review!
Cheers and happy holidays!

Excellent review, Magnum. Thanks bro
I just got a 6'2" Omni,&@200 lbs plus all the winter gear you wear here in the NE(NJ), I thought it would be too small. But I was wrong.Only rode it 4x
2 knee- waist & 1 real fun day chest-,head +& it goes really well.Fast.Still gotta get in better physical shape, but getting there. Should be good by spring
Thanks Omni/ FireWire/Slater Design....

Glad you didn't go any bigger Doug, like I mentioned in the show, a lot of people tend to go too big, which is ok if you want to cruise on the board, but I feel the board works best when is about 5 inches smaller than your shortboard. I actually went 6 inches smaller, and still loved it.
As far as the ideal conditions for it, anything with a little steeper face would get the board going, even if it is knee to waist high! Boards is a keeper!
Keep up, stay warm and get some good surf!
The Surf Show by Magnum Martinez 👍👍👍
Nice review! Great surfing too.
Great review, thanks 🤙🏾

Saludos hermano desde Tenerife. De pinga la descripcion que das de la tabla, si antes me gustaba ahora ya la quiero. Un abrazo de la Guaira para el mundo.

Great review man, and ripping hard
Thanks brother! Glad you liked the review. Found a great new subject for my next review, stay tune! Cheers!
No worries man, it's actually quite funny that you know Noel Salas (from looking at the comments). I've been watching his videos for a while and for some reason thought that this video reminded me of his channel.
(no, not coz you're both bald haha... )
How does the Omni compare to the SKX? Trying to compliment my 5'4 Evo for winter waves in San Diego
looks great, i have an older Nano 5'5 which i love, thinking of replacing with a 5'4 Omni, did you ever tried the Nano? if so how would you compare those two?
hey Magnum, have you tried the cymatic? If so which do you prefer?
Keep it up brah.
When's your second show coming bru?
Hi Waxfoot Just wanted to let you know that my second show will be available very soon! Thanks a lot!
great review. Would you do a Sci-Fi review for comparison?
Hi Erik! I would do it, but I've been messing around with twin fins, twinzers and some classic retro designs... so that is probably what I'd do next. Can tell you that the sci-fi is really fast, I had two different dimensions of it, the 5'3 and 5'5 and one was too short and the other one too much volumen. What I didn't like about it was that due to the wide tail, the vertical approach became difficult. It is also a super back footed board. Hope this helps. Cheers hermano!
What's the biggest waves you've surfed the Omni in?
I think it was lowers at about three to four feet over head and bumpy. The board held well, even though wouldn't recommend it for those type of conditions.
Brother has probado la hypto crypto? Me parece que el shape es similar con diferencia de la Punta
Saludos Juan! No, solo he usado la Omni y el Sci-Fi. Si he visto que la Hypto Crypto es parecido, la diferencia es que la Omni al tener un tail mas angosto y terminar en rounded pin me parece mas versátil, al menos en mejores olas.
