I just tested a 5'8" Omni with a trii-fin setup FCS II Carver fin in Ericeira, Portugal on a .5m reef break yesterday, wave form was reasonable, with a lighter 7 sec swell with some wind chop. I'm 80kg, 183cm been surfing. 17 years. This is the best board I've ever ridden because it's responsive to what you want it to do and impressive how much speed down the line! I feel like this board will improve my surfing and fun out there!. I was out paddling everybody in the pack (no pros out there) (it's light) (I'm an intermediate paddler) and getting into the wave early. I dropped into some medium steep to steeply angled sections with no problem! Did try some flatter waves and it's definitely not a Groveller. Maybe you could tune it to be a mild groveller with the right fin setup. I was making sections that I don't usually make with my other boards. The board paddles well and It feels very lively under my feet. Now, I want to test the SciFi. The Omni for waves with more push and SciFi as my everyday board is probably my next purchase. These two boards probably = Quiver killer!
I agree man, my omni has literally changed my surfing. I didnt know a board could be this easy to surf, fast, lively and responsive. I don't think I can go back to normal PU shortboards ever again.
Impressive to see how much speed down the line, and the lines themselves, with so little volume... Also, this guy surfs a bit like Slater. He looked better than a couple of guys down in Rio this past week... Kelly is brilliant... GOOD LUCK AND BEST OF HEALTH TO KELLY AND HIS EXCITING, NEW LIFE! There will never be another like him, ever.
Got a 6'6" about a month ago, and it's hands down the best board I've ever had. I'm 47, and will be 48 in July, and I'm a whole new surfer on this thing. Been surfing for 35 years now and I've been more excited to get in the water because of this board and how hard it rips. Super flowy and fast and never seems to lose speed out of huge cut backs. The learning curve was zero. The board was/is totally intuitive. Been riding it as a thruster with Jordy futures. Went out today, can't wait to go out again.
How heavy are you? I'm about the same age and looking to buy one... I'm usually around the 100kg+ long term intermediate level. Do you reckon 6'6 would be okay?
+Andrew H 185 and bought the 5'9"(34L). The boards fast, if the boards super fast, I don't need to tell you if it pushes water or not....nope. Rocker is subtle. Just enough in the right place. It's not the banana by a long shot. Board rules in a lot of conditions. I have even groveled with it. I have tested it 2-8 ft". It's all where you stand on it.
hey is it your first tomo? i have his evo which i love and have an omni on the way for when its a bit punchier... i sold all my other boards- al merrick pod mod,js,hayden shapes love buzz all gone. can't wait to get onto the omni
These boards are like Manual to Automatic. If you don't know how to handle it, it will be frustrating as hell. But when you do, ooooooh man all that power in your hands (in this case, under your feet). ;) \!!!/
so no drive out of a bottom turn and as unstable as a unicycle. What an achievement!Remember when everyone used to want to surf like KS? Now who does? Take a look at the dudes with these boards at your local. You notice the board and owner in the carpark then never see them in the lineup. These boards do NOT work in many conditions.
I sold all of my 5 CI boards and now have the Evo and Omni in my quiver with a custom Egg for those super crappy days. Tomo's boards are ridiculous. Super drivey and very responsive. I don't see myself ever going back to a traditional board ever again.
wef - me too dudde, I was practically only riding DHDs and other traditional PU boards. After I bought an Omni literally my surfing life changed forever. I have sold all of my PU shortboards and now just bought an Evo which is almost as good.
TheDawg - You're crazy dude - this is the fastest board I have ever owned (until I bought the Evo). It has more drive out of bottom turns that any of the PU short-boards I have owned (DHD BD, Monster, Haden's Hypto, 7S Salt Shaker plus a bunch of local stuff). The quad concaves give this board almost magical speed, and when you load up on a bottom turn you can feel the LFT flex. I make sections I was never making before. And better than that it holds the speed through your top turn. Its a very stable board - it has heaps of width under your front foot so its really forgiving for bad foot placement. Its easy to surf. Go and try one.
You can clearly tell how hard to read and ride this board can be, this is the guy who shaped it and still he needs to compensate his balance and body weight after most maneuvers, he doesn't look confident down the line.
No way dude, this is the easiest board to surf I have ever had. Its forgiving, smooth, has an amazing amount of natural speed on the take off and loads up nicely in bottom turns. Tomo's boards are generally extremely user friendly with plenty of volume, width and speed. You should go try one. And he doesnt do any of the things you just said - he is always centred with his chest over his front foot after each top turn. I'm not even sure what "needs to compensate with his balance" means.
did you watch the video.... He's ripping harder than 95% of people at any line-up. I live in Southern CA where there are lots of great surfers, but he'd still probably out surf most of them. No airs here to hide behind, just good powerful surfing from this dude.

Looks like an ultra-short longboard. I am more than intrigued.

@@Jimmy_Widders_Hunt I weigh 90kg. Yeah I think a 6'6" will float you for sure, it's just a matter of how fit you are.
The board paddles really well!
Daniel Tomo is hands-down the best surfer shaper in the world. If if you can find a video of a shaper who surfs better than Daniel I'll eat my shorts.
maybe Simon Anderson ?
Not today for sure
Jettylocal1502 you got me good with "eat my shorts" lol
Mark Phipps.
Ryan Burch?
I have one. I love it.
It's definitely a very fast responsive board...I love mine!

Still think the Cymatic looks better under one's feet.
For three decades i have been stabbed by the nose of my board, now why would i change
i known Jake he shreds
What is the best fcs fin for the omni?

Why there's no footage of Slater himself surfing this board?
Check out slater shredding on an Omni

Is Kelly Slater in outside on 1:25?
Yep, can recognise that bald head anywhere.
Anybody know what this wave is?
what size omni is he using and how tall is he?
What's the song they use?
whats the song?
👍👍👍:-)

Anyone else thinks he surfs a bit like Kelly, or is it just me?

Are you mad, he's ripping it to shreds!
Seriously, are you on glue? This guy is ripping.
