i am entering my first competition in a little less than a month... Starting jiu jitsu about five years ago (and back after taking a break), i never entered the experience to compete (i just wanted to have fun (as well as get better at self defense!)); however, i got inspired to do it after supporting a friend who was competing. He also encouraged/suggested i enter tournaments. i saw all of these women and girls who did pretty amazing, and i said 'okay! i will do it!' Of course i am nervous, but i am looking at it as an experience to learn from, whatever happens.

      @@alwaysastudent How was it ?

Nico Contreras I had fun; one thing I never heard about was how mentally and physically draining it is though.
I did lose every match, but I wasn't really expecting to win. I learned a lot in my experience. I don't think I will think about competing for another 2-6 months though. It is a lot on the body and mind. You learn REAL quick what mistakes you make. Another thing they don't tell you is how you don't always hear the coaches giving you tips as you're fighting. It's an extremely overstimulating experience.
I think that anyone who is thinking about competing should do it. It is definitely life changing.
