  • Rory is a corrections officer with a ton of experience in other branches of law enforcement. He's also a very skilled BJJ black belt at Island Top Team under Rob Biernacki. In episode 250 of the Strenuous Life Podcast (also available on Apple Podcasts, Google Podcasts, Stitcher, etc) we go into depth about how BJJ can be applied in law enforcement situations as well as talking about Rory's latest BJJ instructional, The Guard Retention Formula, which you can find out more about at www.grappleart....

I do Security work in BC, did the Advanced Security Training course...and you're bang on. That straight armbar is a very specifically-useful technique. I have yet to see it used, even though our whole team has been "trained" on it.

It's taught bloody everywhere, where in BC do you work?

@@RVVBJJ Langley. I had just taken my AST and knew that armbar wasn't going to help much, so I asked my coworker who had bounced a few years for any pointers. He'd started BJJ a few months earlier and really talked it up, so I found a place close to home, and I've been at it for the last year.

Do you own and operate any gyms in NYC? You’re very poised and have a respectable demeanor. I’d love the chance to learn from you in person
