    Hi Garry, I live in Wilde and you are right. It's a nice place to stay. It's cheaper and close to CABA, only 15 minutes in train or 30 minutes in bus. Security is no different from other neighborhoods of Buenos Aires. Following the railway branch Wilde, Don Bosco, Bernal and Quilmes, they are good places to live. Particulary Wilde is growing fast. On upper floors of buildings you have a view of Rio de la Plata. If you are still in Wilde, I can help you get to know the area. By the way I was in Chicago twice, spectacular city. Greetings.

From there I recommend you check out Ciudad Jardín, El Palomar (home of an AF base and former airport) and then keep going until you reach Bella Vista and Campo de Mayo, a big military base and training camp. This is a kind of typical city into the metropolitan area of Buenos Aires, but can be pretty dangerous in some areas, although the city center is fine.
    Inside the city of Buenos Aires you have pretty good neighbourhoods that are quite quiet and not touristy (like Villa Luro, Floresta, Villa Pueyrredón or Vélez Sarsfield), and also are safer than many parts in the metropolitan area.
    For you having an idea, while the city of Buenos Aires has about 3 million people, its metropolitan area (composed for more than 100 satellite cities - like Wilde -) has 12/13 million. Therefore, most part of the urban agglomeration as a whole is the metropolitan area and not the city of Buenos Aires itself.

    • @victoriachavez3958
      @victoriachavez3958 Месяц назад

      the general rule is that if youre close to a train station the area is quite good, the problem in the province is when you get ''too inside'' the neighbourhoods. Of course there are exceptions, like Sol y Verde..

    One of the best things about Argentine cities, and obviously Buenos Aires, is quality/lifestyle doesn't differ substantially in the suburbs compared to downtown (in case of Buenos Aires this is true in more than 80% of metropolitan area), if u wanna have an overview of the entire metropolis (city and suburbs), here:

You will find many places in Buenos Aires that have English/British names like Claypole, Hurlingham, William C. Morris, Temperley. Anyway, if you like to visit neighborhoods outside of Buenos Aires City I highly recommend visiting Villa Ballester, especially the stretch that goes from Calle Alvear to Plaza Mitre, I recommend starting on Calle Alvear and going down Calle Independencia and making a right turn on Calle Sgto. Cabral until you see Plaza Mitre . From there, you can make your return along Boulevard Ballester. The neighborhood is full of restaurants and cafes which you will see on the map. It used to be a German settlement and there are 2 German schools there to this day. It's well connected to Caiptal by train or bus, so it's really convenient.

      @@GarryMikal No, actually is not completely known the origin, It could a government minister, from the time the train station was built, Eduardo Wilde, but more likely in honor of his uncle, who was also a writer and a doctor in the nearby zone, and who became a little before the director of the National Library. Oscar Wilde was a young writer at this time and not much known.

    I'm the same way (a self-hating tourist). I'm a gringo living in Ecuador. I started traveling the world at 18 years in the military. After a short time traveling, I knew I wanted to live abroad. Now that I'm retired, I can live anywhere I want. I left America to get away from Americans. They are still around me here in Ecuador, but I dont need to mingle with them. I'm not sure what it is, but living outside the US is edifying because you realize there's a great big world out there, a lot to see and experience, and the huge insurmountable problems in the USA don't apply here.
