What a disastrous “food tour”. La Choripaneria is solid, but far from the best. Lo de Charly is ok when nothing else is open and you’re nearby. Otherwise, the places you ate at are below average quality. What makes a couple of tourists who clearly know little about the city and next to nothing about the food think that they can make a food tour video? If you’re really going to go for it, the least you can do is get the pronunciation of the dishes somewhat close to correct and understand what you’re eating
Where would you recommend instead?
@@JordanandEmily, There are many good places to eat and drink in Buenos Aires. Here are some of my favourites:
*Parrillas*
1. Don Julio- still the best; best to make reservations when they open three months in advance; more expensive than all the other parrillas, but we’ll worth it and still cheap compared to US prices, especially if you’re paying in dollars
2. La Carnicería- probably my current second favorite; excellent mollejas that are a little bit fancier than your average parrilla; sit at the bar if it’s not hot outside
3. El Ferroviario- real Porteño experience, as not many tourists go there; huge portions at very good prices; a bit out of the way and not fancy at all, as it is under a highway with the majority of the seating outside; good for large groups
4. Nuestro Secreto- parrilla of the Four Season; different style asado; beautiful garden seating; you pay Four Seasons prices so not cheap
5. La Brigada- wasn’t as good as when we were back in Jan, but still a good option, especially if you’re in San Telmo for the Sunday market; great atmosphere
5. A few others to consider if you can’t get into the other ones- La Cabrera, Parrilla Peña, El Pobre Luis
*Argentinian (not asado) *
1. El Preferido de Palermo- best Milanesa Napolitana in my opinion; book a few weeks in advance
2. Chori- best choripán that’s not in front of a football stadium
3. Palermo Cantina- good local neighborhood spot in Palermo Hollywood; good and huge Milanesa; cool atmosphere; cheap
4. El Baqueano- more upscale and unique takes on classic Argentinian dishes
5. Peron Peron- old school atmosphere honoring Socialism in Latin America complete with typical dishes and the theme music; locations in Palermo Hollywood and San Telmo
6. La Choripaneria- good choripán option in the permanent San Telmo Market
*Upscale*
1. Chila- my favorite fine dinning option in BA; nice atmosphere located in Puerto Madero so can walk along the water before or after dinner
2. Crizia- excellent upscale seafood restaurant; go all out and get the tasting menu with wine pairing
3. Elena- another restaurant in the Four Seasons; mostly Argentinian cuisine, but more upscale
*Ethnic Cuisine (everything besides Argentinian) *
1. Niño Gordo- Argentinian-Asian fusion
2. La Alacena- my favorite Italian restaurant in a city full of Italian restaurants; good brunch option
3. Mishiguene- Argentinian-Israeli fusion; has become quite famous so need to book in advance
4. La Mar- offshoot of the original Gastón Acurio cebecheria in Lima; excellent ceviches, chaufas, etc.
5. Oviedo- Spanish restaurant good for seafood; nice atmosphere, but casual and good price
6. Gran Dabbang- excellent and innovative Argentinian-South Asia fusion in a very casual atmosphere; doesn’t take reservations so go when they open
*Pizza*
1. La Mezzetta- best fugazzetta in BA; well worth the trek to Colegiales if you’re staying in the city center, but go between lunch and dinner (say 3:00-6:00) because there’s always a queue
2. Pizzería Güerrín- not as good as La Mezzetta in my opinion, but a good option if you’re just in the commercial center
*Bars *
1. Tres Monos- world class cocktails and solid snacks in a bit of a dive bar atmosphere; gets crowded so go early or I think you can make a reservation for the new section that opened earlier this year; my favorite cocktail bar in BA
2. CoChinChina- newer cocktail bar with excellent drinks and solid Asian food; nice atmosphere
3. Florería Atlántico- internationally acclaimed cocktail bar, but not the same since the owner and cocktail guru has moved to the US and the previous head bartender went on to open Tres Monos; very cool concept though, but gets extremely crowded since it’s famous so you have to go early or book a table for food; can also wait at the bar next door, which is the same owner and has solid drinks, but not the same experience
4. Rooftop bar at the Alvear Palace Hotel- best for aperitivo when the sun is setting; book a table in advance
5. El Federal- old bar classic bar in San Telmo
6. Uptown- if you want a party, this is a good option; don’t know what the food is like, but you can book a table and eat there to avoid the usually long queues
7. Frank’s- just down the street from Uptown, this is the original speakeasy in BA if you want something more than a bar, but not a massive party
*Cafes*
1. Cuervo- my local café in Palermo Hollywood; there is another location in Palermo
2. Oli- another Palermo Hollywood cafe where I would recommend if you want pastries or lunch; excellent brunch option, but gets very busy
3. La Mulata- after Don Julio cafe just a block down Guatemala
4. Coffee Town- good option if you’re in San Telmo market and need a quick coffee
5. Atis- also in San Telmo, but a much nicer atmosphere if you want to have a longer relaxing coffee
6. If you’re interested in the classic Argentine cafes for the atmosphere and don’t care so much about the coffee itself, you have El Petit Colon and Cafe Tortorni in the center as well as Montecarlo in Palermo Hollywood
@@LeMagnifiqueDoubleAgent-cj4zo woah! A LOT of places on the internet disagree with you 👀 we'll have to try them and find out though
@@JordanandEmily, These are assuredly amongst the best places according to locals. Some of them are recognized amongst the best restaurants in Latin America so, no, the Internet does not “disagree”. If you’re using something like Trip Advisor, it’s inevitable that you’re going to get touristy places and other services are skewed towards lower priced places, not to mention the fact that crowd sourcing rarely works when it comes to quality restaurants because the majority of people don’t even know what they’re eating (kind of like what happened in your video).
Very strange!
Argentina is a country that never ceases to amaze me, I hope I can visit someday

The Choripan is an originary sandwich from Córdoba (Argentina). It then spread to the rest of the country. It is a traditional food.

I’m an Argentinian so always interested in seeing and hearing about experiences in my country. Have really been enjoying your excellent videos. I don’t know who does the editing but it is really top notch. Hope you will have time to see something else and not just Buenos Aires. I lived in Puerto Madryn, Patagonia and I would have recommended going there for whale watching but it is no longer the season and you have plenty in Australia. So, second choice would be Iguazú falls, be prepared to die of heat and get really wet if you take the boat excursion but this year has been exceptionally good with a lot of water coming over the falls. By the way loved your country, specially Tasmania where we rented a motor home. Cheers
Thanks so much for your compliments! We ran out of time in Argentina and missed so much, but it's our excuse to come back one day! We're actually renting a camper van and touring a bit of New Zealand next month!

The first time I tasted a milanesa was at a dinner party I was invited to by my co-worker and his wife in Argentina.
If heaven exists and the gods live there, the gods eat this on their special feasts.
Love this!
Wow! Thanks for letting us know
Italian, spanish, indigenous and meet based food culture.
It is difficult to come across a video of Argentine food with such accurate information. Congratulations on that!! Certainly you have tried just a hint of the gastronomic diversity, but it is very gratifying to know that you enjoyed it a lot. I hope to see more videos of your journey 👌🏻
Wow thank you so much! We know the restaurants might not have been top notch but we're so glad we covered some of the good food!
Argentinian food, no Argentine food .
Best comment 🙌🏻
Are you joking? Half of what they said was incorrect and the pronunciations were atrocious
Hi there, a Buenos Aires foodie here. The choripan typically goes with salsa: the Chimichurri. There is always some sort of container with lots of it somewhere to throw your preferred amount in there. Hope you had the chance to taste that together.
Also, the Fugazetta is not a focaccia, it's a pizza. If you find it different than any other pizza is because here we have our own interpretation of the Italian pizza, and 100% will prefer it over its origins. Ours really focuses on cheese and tends to, although depending on what you ask (pizza a la piedra, for example) be thicker than the Italian one. I hope you enjoyed your stay!
Ooooo thanks for clearing those things up! Either way, it was all delicious a d we loved our time in BA
From an Italian who lives in Argentina, please note that Club de la Milanesa is not an authentic Milanesa. Would you like to try some great options? La Recova in Recoleta, El Preferido de Palermo, El Ferroviario, and El Antojo (which has received many awards for being the best Milanesa) are some excellent choices.
Italiano😂
Amazing! Thank you for letting us know ❤️
Argie here from BA. Great video but just so you guys know, you had the "standard" version of the food you chose. Of course no one expects you to know this much, but we have places offering far more elevated experiences with milanesa, choripán, fugazzetta and icecream. Maybe not so much steak, our meat is great pretty much everywhere.
Next time you're here I'm sure you'll see these dishes in a new light if you dig deeper.
Crazy! We can’t wait to come back and try all the recommendations

I would say that with the Italian immigration ice cream has changed, but people were making some sort of ice cream in colonial times, before we were Argentina, as a teacher we ,teach the customs, food, clothing, etc. in colonial times, and that's how I learned that ice cream was made specially in winter time, if you didn't live in an area where there where snow, people used to put milk in zinc big jars and wrapped in leather soaked with nitrate or salt and they mounted these jars on horses, making them run back and forth. A certain distance at a certain speed, the salt allows the cold to pass into the milk that is being churned by the horse, obtaining a frozen foam, which is then sweetened with sugar and cinnamon, in summer. They tried to preserve ice in large pits in the ground, (just as centuries before Turks did in the sand).yep Turkish brought their idea of ice cream to spain and we all know that first to make some kind of ice cream were the Chinese, mixing milk with snow. The first actual italian gelato was made around 1608, with Vanilla and chocolate flavors
that criollo icecream sounds delicious, i wonder what it would taste like
Hola. Abrazo fraternal.
So many variations!
Your video just popped up in my feed, and since I’m an Argentinian living in Brisbane I immediately notice that you were Aussies by using the word ‘parmi’ haha.
Hope you’re having a great trip, it makes me so nostalgic to see all those good places and food!

@@JordanandEmilythere are multiple in every neighborhood in Buenos Aires, just look up bodegón in gooogle maps and they will pop up. Try to avoid chains like la farola. You have to try an authentic milanesa napolitana from a bodegón, what you had was a kind of fast food one at club de la milanesa

You ve just scratched the surface, there is a better version for every food youve tried and it isnt always more expensive. I wish you try locals recommendations next time here, plenty of hidden gems in every neighbourhood.
Also, you must try a full family asado, with achuras, vegetables and all, the cooker (asador) is kind of the host and he will take care your meat is in the right cooking stage of your preference, and so on with every guest. Thanks so much! It's nice to see a Comment like this. Most people think every place we ate was bad 😄 but it all tasted so good!
Hello. Snitzel is made with pork, milanesa can be made with beef or with chicken. When it's made with chickent breat is called suprema. The milanesa you are having is milanesa "a la napolitana" with cheese, ham and tomato sauce. The milanesa can be "sola" (plain", "a caballo" (with two fried eggs), "a la pizza" (with tomato sauce below and melted cheese on top). It can also be in a sandwich, usually with tomato slices and lettuce.
Medialunas can be sweet like the one you took with the coffee and are calle "de manteca" (butter") there are other medialumnas which are crispy and salty, thinner than the "de manteca" ones called "de grasa" (fat).
Choripan (pork saussage in bread) comes from chorizo (saussage) and pan (bread). The bread is the traditional bread, similar to french baguette. In some places you have plain choripan, with only the saussage and the bread, and a special sauce called chimichurri (a sauce made of garlic, oregano, oil, vinegar and spices). Other put salsa criolla (tomato cubes, onion and spices sauce) instead of chimichurri.
Pizzas sizes: pizzeta (one serving in one little pizza), chica (4 to 6 slices), grande (8 slices). And all pizzas in Argentina are heavily loaded with cheese.
Dulce de leche is not cream caramel. Is milk jam, made out of milk, sugar and a little vanilla.
The secreto of the argentina "asado" is that the meat is cooked very slowly on embers and never with flames. That takes much more time than barbecues.
One thing, salsa criolla is not made with tomatoes but red peppers. But i agree with everything

Fuganzeta is inspired by the common food of the Roman Empire, which was bread with cheese, onions and olives. So you can say that you ate like a Roman legionary.
Thanks for the rec!

Emily, welcome back again to YOUR ARGENTINA! It’s not LIKE YOUR MORHER’S, IT’S ARGENTINA! We-are-asado, we-are-empanadas, we-are-choripan, we-are-the-best-pizza-in-the-world:FUGAZZETTA!!
Hahahaha 😆
Milanesas are literally schnitzels, and Milanesa napolitana is basically dressing it like a pizza (traditionally with tomato slices over mozzarella cheese but today almost allways people would add ham like you saw).
There is also another variant we call "Milanesa a caballo" (wich means "Milanesa on horseback"). Being "A caballo" means that its served with two fried eggs on top.
Delicious
De Argentina lo mejor son los helados
😄 so good!
Damn it.... I got hungry looking at all the food. (likes and subscribes)
Helados Daniel… if you guys enjoyed that, you should try a proper, good, ice cream shop. Rapa Nui, for example.
😂
Your breakfast is called coffee with milk with"half moon", these can be made with butter (like the one they served you) or with fat, which are thinner and crunchier.
Ooo wouldn't mind thinner and crunching!
hermoso pais!
So beautiful!
It's not right to make people desire! The food in this country is fabulous!
