To all those who go down the cliched road of saying "Dylan can't sing" - Utter garbage, his voice is beautiful here, amongst many other examples of how great an actual singer he is.
Musicians in studios these days go to great effort (i.e. autotune) in order to make the melody unblemished while their musical framework and ideas are garbage. Dylan, I feel, was just not primarily focused on articulating vocal melody because the songs were so complete lyrically and structurally that maybe sounding like a melodic angel was just boring to him. The "Dylan can't sing" argument I hear a lot from friends. It's not just saying "Dylan can't sing", but it implies the guy is overrated and not a quality musician. It's kind of like saying Van Gogh's brush strokes were too broad and not adequately articulate, therefore he sucks. I agree with you John, this clip is an informative glimpse that disproves that myth.

Jakob Dylan gave an interview to Rolling Stone magazine in 1997 when Time out of Mind came out. The interviewer avoided discussing Jakob's famous dad through most of the interview, but at the end he brought up "This new kid, Bob Dylan, who has a new album, Time out of Mind...what's your take on him?" "His future's bright," Jakob said.

Its hard to understand how much Dylans music has had on me since the first time I heard Like A Rolling Stone as it came flowing from the radio in 65. Some always say it was the Beatles that put a guitar in their hands, for me it was just as much Dylan too. My wife and I went to see him playing in Indy in 1988. When we got back home to our little town of Fairmount Indiana Dylan was there in a coachliner with family and friends to visit the hometown of James Dean. It was good to meet the man I have so admired. l
Damn, I’ve been wondering about this song for decades. The only part I’ve ever heard or seen. Is the final scene in Eat the Document. He and Robbie are playing a bit of it. This is fabulous. Thank you for posting.
You mean descending from the fourth down to the root in a major scale? The Beatles and Bob has certainly done a lot of groundbreaking things, but I don't think either can claim first for that.
