He was without a doubt so much ahead of anyone else on the planet in 1966, ( and that's coming from someone who fully appreciates what Lennon & McCartney , Brian Wilson and Paul Simon were doing at the time )
On time in the late 1960s I was walking down Sunset Blvd in Hollywood CA with my brother. It was late at night and as we walked we passed by a narrow stairway leading down to a basement room with its door open. We went down the stairs and into the room where they were showing the movie "Don't look back." That night changed my life.
I'm from Glasgow. Been in this hotel a few times whenever I could afford it while I was at Glasgow Uni. Not often. And just the bar. Got chucked out twice. I'm so proud that Bob recorded something in my hometown. And with Robbie. One day, I'll have dinner with Bobby, Robbie, Mandela, Ché, Buddha and Jesus Christ.
How ambitious and courageous of Bob to leave home so young and take his musical talents to the big city, New York. Then eventually exploded all over the World! Amazing 😅
He was gorgeous, he still looks great, saw him at the Outlaw Festival 8-10-24, my husband and my 2nd Dylan concert, he was great. I loved the movie Don’t Look Back, saw it as a teenager when it was re-released. Bobbie Baby will always be a Master of music and poetry, as George Harrison said in 1990, “Bob Dylan turns an impeccable phrase “. My husband and I say that quote from George all the time.
@ If I Were King, I went back and checked, I’m a bit spacey today. My beloved dad passed away yesterday morning, after a long illness, I am happy for him, because I truly believe he’s with my mom now, she passed away in March.❤️
i get a lot of funny looks when i say '60s Bob Dylan is my celebrity crush, but if i get the chance i'll direct those confused people to this clip. that inexplicable charm he had back then really comes through here :)
I could listen to Bob Dylan all day Saturday and Sunday morning 🌄, maybe all week, I love him 💞💞💞, never get tired of him. Love you, Bob Dylan, Elizabeth ❣️🎶🎧🌱🎸🍯🌹🌹
I remember first seeing this footage on a bootleg copy of "Eat the Document." Both songs on this clip are a testament to the singular conduit that Dylan had become. His brain was a lightning rod for ideas. Constantly spewing forth songs of the highest quality.

Love it. I was born in Glasgow. But was 5 , and well tucked up in my suburban lovely home. But know it was the best hotel at the time .. .much like Fawlty Towers at the time in Glasgow. Still the staff, they tried their best. Hope these troubadours were polite….like Glaswegians are.. until……you think you’re famous 😂
I'm amazed. I never thought this footage existed. Looks like they were stood out in Georges Square when there was some type of protest or speaking. It looked natural for them. Good stuff.
I got into Bob in the middle 90s kind of a lower ebb of popularity pre TOOM… Time has proven he is indeed the GOAT. The art just gains power … An artist at such a level it’s just incalculable really…
It’s incredible that these rehearsals include parts of songs later polished and delivered up to blood on the tracks (8 years later). I could hear the rudiment of you are a big girl now for instance, in the middle of the footage.
This is a great edit. If I Was King sounds like a different audio source and there's no footage of the performance here so probably from a different day. The bootleg series 12 lists it as May 12.
Is this footage from "Eat The Document"? I believe so, I think I've seen it before. Dylan and his band-mates and entourage all wore the same style sunglasses in 1966. I guess they all wanted to look like their leader!
Scorsese included the last song here in his No Direction Home documentary - check the ‘full performances’ part of the DVD special features. Curiously though.. RR’s been edited out.
He and Robertson have a symbiosis going on. I doubt much of that was rehearsed either; just deep comfort with another player; they complement each other so well.
I was never a big fan of Dylan's singing, but love his lyrics. However, I was always a huge fan of Robbie Robertson and The Band. I like Dylan here playing and singing with Robbie.

The guitars, the hair, the wallpaper, wearied voices, 1966, the sunglasses, the cigarettes …. and these visions of Dylan have conquered my mind.

I could probably spend the rest of the year watching footage of Dylan from 1966 and not get bored
