If anyone's confused why buttermilk was the other predeparture drink option, it's because it's not actually the buttermilk you think of in America! Idk why the english translation is buttermilk, but in India that refers to a really refreshing yogurt-based drink called chaas - it's basically thinned yogurt with spices added to it like cumin, salt, pepper, etc and it tastes really nice and cooling!
NOO WAY you missed one of the best Lounges in the world - Encalm Privé Lounge (it’s right below the Hotel you stayed) and it’s always included with your business class tickets
It was chaotic during last October during transit to EWR flight. no dedicated area for first class passengers, even worse one of lounge staff ask for tip when escorting me to shower facility. sorry air india, i must go back to either middle east , taiwanese or japanese airline next time
@ I am really sorry about your bad experience:( it never happened to me or anyone I know but if I ever saw this happening I will definitely try to report to airport authorities to take swift action against such person
Dear Dan, let me tell you how to find one's scooter in a sea of scooters: You remember where you put it. Source: me, bicycle owner in Amsterdam, the Netherlands.
My first long haul flight was on a very old Air India B707(poss B720) named Khaulugiri I think) in mid seventies. Flight was from Heathrow to Hong Kong via Frankfurt, Cairo, Delhi, Bombay and Bangkok. It took a very long time. I had no previous experience of long haul airlines/flight. The experience was really good with some of the best food ( always curry something) on every single sector I could hardly walk when I arrived!! Included time sat on the lfith deck chatting to the pilots. Happy Days. I fear air India has not (may not) have made any progress in the last 50 years .
Sad to hear that the transit experience has not gotten better. What you describe was my experience in 2017. The fact you get checked by three people who are in eye site of each other is just ridiculous.
You should have received access to Encalm Prive lounge as part of the business class ticket while their lounge is undergoing renovations. They gave me a paper slip at check-in along with my boarding pass. That lounge as many others have pointed out is business class only. And really good
Flying AI is like playing a lottery. Will I get a clean aircraft? Will I get a seat from this decade? Will I get food poisoning? I simply don't want to play that lottery anymore. 3 flights with them last year and only won on 1 flight. I'm just done with them for this year, maybe 2026. Glad you had a good flight though.
I recently flew their new A350 business class from Delhi to EWR, and I must say that the cabin upgrade is a significant improvement. I believe they will soon compete in the international market.
Air India's product may be old, but it is well and truly on its way to becoming a world class product. Just take a look at the 350s. Absolutely world class. Also Encalm Prive is the better lounge, actually one of the best lounges in the world. It is the official business class lounge in Delhi, whereas the Encalm lounge is mostly patronised by eligible credit card holders, hence the crowd in Encalm.
You are flying Business on a Dreamliner. No wonder it's not bad. I know an Indian lady who refuses to fly them to the US in economy. She flew Etihad. I flew Air India in 1966 on a Boeing 707 to New York from London. They used to give a drink in economy before take off. My aunt was in First and said it was extraordinary. My father flew on an Air India Constellation in 1950 to Cairo from Rome because TWA was full. A Trip report was recently posted in economy to Bangkok and it looked awful. I also loved TinTin.
Hopefully their hard product will be improving over the next couple of years. You can only go so far with improving the soft product. But I have a feeling they will figure it out!
There is no excuse to not fixing a tear in an armrest in Business Class. There is no safety issue or regulations with fixing a torn armrest, what is the maintenance department of Air India doing?
My Indian friends tell me to stay away from Air India. And I've been to that Holiday Inn express in New Delhi Airport. Absolute rude and uninterested staff, 6 security checkpoints to go through. Super high price. Avoid that!
I saw airfare promo in business class for IAD-SGN via DEL do you think 90 min are enough to go thru security and catch connecting flight? (we won't leave the airport). Last July we flew from GVA to IAD with Royal Maroc Air, we waited 2 hrs to go thru security as they opened only 2 stations for more 2000 people thus triggering stampede; my son recorded the chaotic scene, officer came and seized his phone asking to delete it. Can you grade the food and service of Maroc Air and Air India in business class . Very glad that you know Tintin, he was very popular in the 80's-90's, i have full collection in French. Thanks for sharing with us your trip.
I flew on the A350 in the business cabin to LHR. It’s not even the same league as the 787 cabin. It’s superb. Plenty of videos on RUclips. The service, food and seat all were great. And the Polaris on 767 for the next flight felt like a downgrade 😅
Dan, you need to fly the new a350 on long haul. Will help you better understand the direction the airline is headed and the progress it has made. Can’t wait for more Indian related content.
Air India is still shitty. The reason you got a good flight is because it’s a short flight. I don’t know what the logic of air India is for longer flights they give shitty flights. I travelled in air India twice and in business both times and still had the worst experience. I would never dream of travelling in economy in that worthless airlines.
Absolutely agree! I flew with them in December from Amsterdam to Delhi. FAs were so sweet, but the plane was so old. It was like they are stuck in the 40s. And let’s not even talk about the Delhi Airport. Locals have absolutely no manners. They constantly cut the lines. Also the check-in is so unorganized. It is going to take 50 years for them to upgrade.
Very curious to see where Air India is going in the next couple of years. I was a bit disapointed you didn't talk about the current situation under Tata's management and the upgrade the airline will get in the years to come.
I am glad you had a good experience with AI. Although, AI has had it's challenges I would still give props to them as compared to many carries in the North American and European region. Despite flying on AI extensively, with the NA/EU/Middle East carries equally participating in my expeditions, I have always had a pleasant experience. Are they luxurious? Nope but are they decent? Absolutely! Their hard and soft products need a significant upgrade and that is known to us all. But, we are also aware that AI has put forth one of the largest aircraft orders, which both Airbus and Boeing are struggling to fulfill in time due to supply chain challenges and general excellence (looking at Boeing). Due to that, it is taking longer for AI to retrofit the existing fleet and hence we will need to given them couple more years to significantly modernize their fleet. As usual, loved your video! :)
Hi, Business Class Passengers on Air India flights have access to Encalm Prive and not the regular Encalm Lounge. Encalm Prive is a fantastic lounge, only accessible to Airline Guests.
I think you need to wait for the new aircraft and then do a review as in my experience I didn’t enjoy the old product and planes. Hopefully they pull their fingers out and TATA I’m sure will make the change, please try and get an interview with the new CEO and ask questions about the progress so far and future!!!
Thank you for sharing…..❤ …the first desert looked like something I would break up as a wax melt and put in my oil burner 😂…have a lovely weekend..xxxx
Flew from Dubai to Bangkok via the absolutely beautiful and serene airport in Bangalore last month on Indigo, which is a really fabulous low cost carrier - the international transit experience was the slowest, worst managed and frustrating I have experienced anywhere! It seems the pieces that are in the hands of the Federal authorities ie security and passport control are the points of most friction; in order for Indian aviation to grow their international market the government needs to iron this out…
Air India was a private airline run by tatas taken over by govt in nationalisation process now after a century its back with tatas it’s in transition it will do well in future Singapore airlines staff was trained by air india in history
You should have tried the new A350 with the brand new interiors for the authentic "New Air India" experience Hope to see a video on that soon :) They have a long haul from Delhi to New York City on the 350!
Wait a few years ..Air india has been taken over by its original owners who were forced to see it in the 1950s ...back then it was the best airlines in the world. It may not go back there but it's going to be one of the best airlines in the world definitely..
The business class in the new Airbus A350 looks far more superior compared to their old boeing fleet. 777-300ER and 787-9 especially. They look very outdated and shabby.
I've seen a few reviews now where people have been praising Air India's soft product since the takeover of Vistara - hopefully, once the hard product is introduced across the fleet, it'll be a real contender.
I've flown this exact hard product numerous times and can't tell if you're being serious. It's terrible lol. The service is great - esp. post-Tata acquisition, but that's about it.
Hahaha. the seat next to you desintegrated completely.. My experience with Air India was utterly sick.. Panels were loose in the toilet. The diaper changing table kept falling down so you had to stand and hold it with one hand during Peeing. Otherwise it would knock your head. All people had the same problem so imagine the smell on that Loo.. Then my seat was converted in to a lowrider.. The seatpillow came off and you could basically take your seat home as a souvenir. The plane broke down at takeoff and then aborted and stayed on the tarmac with all people inside for 3 hours without working Aircon.. best experience in my life.. the only good thing was the staff.. All women.. but caring and helpfull. even though that they couldnt do shit.. People got agressive towards the crew so I ended up protecting them. Saddest experience in aviation ever... in the end had 8 hours delay but never got compensation.. Even though the ticket was booked in the Netherlands.. The company experienced in compensation claiming said: Air India will never pay.. Worst company I have ever done business with.. Avoid at all costs and boycot if possible..
Air India lounge is under renovation and statutory permissions in process so delayed to open Soon we shall not have good service but awesome fantastic experience very soon
To be fair regarding both cities, some of the airport staff's behaviour need more improvement. Some appear to get a buzz out of expecting to be told off for wasting every polite passenger's time.
Watched your video for years and loved them but the last few and more so this one it looks likes your being paid by air India.. you look how bad the cabin looks broken seats a mess no Business class lounge the food did not look good. Then your saying how great it is a few years ago on other air line that looked great your saying how bad the air line is just because you never liked the meal …. How much is air India paying to sell yourself out
Your reviews are always among the best, Dan. Air India declined a lot some years ago (just as B.A. did) but hopefully they’re on the way back up again. There was a time when they were considered a prestige airline.😊
Dan, great videos, but please stop saying you “slept like a baby”! Babies wake up every 2-3 hrs, cry, hungry, etc. I don’t think that’s what you meant right?
I find it hard to take an American commenting on international airlines. The worst customer service, airport experience and in-flight experiences are in the US. Across the board. This chap should start by reviewing some of them!

I was about to say the same, the Encalm lounge shown in the video is the Priority Pass lounge! The (separate) Encalm Prive lounge is FANTASTIC!
EXACTLY!!!!! OMG I THOUGHT HE WOULD KNOW!!!!
It was chaotic during last October during transit to EWR flight. no dedicated area for first class passengers, even worse one of lounge staff ask for tip when escorting me to shower facility. sorry air india, i must go back to either middle east , taiwanese or japanese airline next time

Dear Dan, let me tell you how to find one's scooter in a sea of scooters: You remember where you put it.

😂
Dan- Encalm has a dedicated business lounge that’s away from the chaos you see and it’s one of the best lounges you will ses
Can't believe both you and Josh Cahill have Air India this week. It's good to see the contrast between economy and business classes.
Josh Cahill is just a little trouble maker, dont compare him to Dan,
@@hkgwestgg nope he isn't. Both are good and show the reality
My first long haul flight was on a very old Air India B707(poss B720) named Khaulugiri I think) in mid seventies. All of those aircraft are going to retrofit, they are waiting for so many wide body deliveries which is tremendously getting late.
Sad to hear that the transit experience has not gotten better. What you describe was my experience in 2017. The fact you get checked by three people who are in eye site of each other is just ridiculous.
I got chaperone escoritng me through transit process due to F class ticket last October
@@ka151515you’re fortunate. I had the same experience as Dan, on two different occasions, and I was in KLM World Business.
Dan encalm privé is different from the enclam you saw. Encalm privé is only for business much more modern and less crowded than the encalm you saw
You missed the encalm prive, the lounge AI is using while theirs is getting renovated. It’s a pretty good one!

One thing is certain. They couldn’t be any worse than Finnair business class.
You could have visited the emcalm prive lounge which is a completely separate lounge and is only available if you fly a premium cabin.

Flying their A350 business class this April from New York!
Air India was a private airline run by tatas taken over by govt in nationalisation process now after a century its back with tatas it’s in transition it will do well in future
Singapore airlines staff was trained by air india in history

They have a long haul from Delhi to New York City on the 350!
I became your subscriber in 2017 from your Air India B747 video. Nice to see you uoi trying AI again.
Dan, I really like your videos, but please stop promoting scam. Better help sells your most vulnerable data to Meta & co.
Thanks. I am forever fan of Air India. Hope they will reclaim their service status like Maharaja soon. Thanks for supporting them.

Air India? What's next? Philippine Airlines?
Why’d you post this on the vlog channel? It’s a regular flight review isn’t it?
No problems with the California Something Something Mocktail on Allegiant. They charge extra for the salt.

Did I hear Dan hint at starting a family? :D 03:50
Very interesting. They don't have mobile boarding passes? IHG is good but Holiday Inn Express can be a little iffy (p.s. nice fluffy microphone)
Couldn’t pay me to fly on that airline. Qatar had been my go to for every trip including one in a few weeks
You should have gone on the A359 no point on the older aircraft
I Have Experience Simlar Business Class Seats On Kenya Airlines On B787-8.Great Video And Info
Interesting route map. Last time I checked they fly to Bali and Jakarta.
Bro you must have flied air India a350 it would be a great experience,by the way nice video ❤
Can you record in 4K ?

Dan, please do the long-haul US to India flight review. JFk to Del or EWR to Del
Salty drinks are good for hydration
I've seen a few reviews now where people have been praising Air India's soft product since the takeover of Vistara - hopefully, once the hard product is introduced across the fleet, it'll be a real contender.
That is a false sentiment. Take American Airlines with it's new "hard product" - well, AA still ranks like a third world airline!
Guys, Dan "fnally" posted again!
He loves TinTin. he kind of looks like TinTin:) 4:04
I've flown this exact hard product numerous times and can't tell if you're being serious. It's terrible lol. The service is great - esp. post-Tata acquisition, but that's about it.
Dan will you ever try the emirates new 777 business (the 1-21 layout)
Dan love your videos but please try the new Air India A350s it'll be an experience that rivals the middle eastern carriers!

Great video, but I can't get over the colors. They could pick different colors and totally change the first impression.
He tried so hard to make this video exiting but let’s be real… this air India is trash not an a350
Air India lounge is under renovation and statutory permissions in process so delayed to open

This feels like a hostage video.
You miseed the Encalm Prive Lounge in DEL (Exclusive for J tickets) - #1 lounge in India
Wow man nice video👍Air India and ground India there are many differences 😅
Air India 🇮🇳 Can't Be Like Emirates
You made a great mistake by not visiting enclam launge
interesting review... I would take it if it was the last airline on earth to get me to my destination - the last & only😎
You must fly air indias new a350 and vistara aircrafts
This almost looks like a fluff piece 😮 I have you in very high regards.
Dan you are in business class so it should be good but I just wonder what it is like in economy ?
Only first class air india passengers get chaperone escorting through transit process in Delhi airport.
please fly their A350 DAN!!!!!!!!
I flew yesterday 😅
Hope your fly Air India A350 one day
Mumbai T2 is way better
TinTin is my favourite too.
Delhi is the absolute worst, both city and airport. Mumbai is way better for transit and the airport as a whole.
Not really I liked Delhi transit it’s personal choice
@Trickyx786Ignore- Mumbai folks are jealous
To be fair regarding both cities, some of the airport staff's behaviour need more improvement. Some appear to get a buzz out of expecting to be told off for wasting every polite passenger's time.
FNALLY 🥲
omg the main course looks so bad and basic
All thumbs up #danteam
