Milwaukee's Surge hydraulic driver is 18-20 decibels quieter than the ONE-KEY impact driver. Yet you won't sacrifice performance with the Surge.
We work in confined spaces when remodeling bathrooms and using a traditional impact driver is loud. Surge fills the need for a quieter impact driver that has less vibration.
The price for the bare tool is $149.
The Surge 1/4" hydraulic driver uses Milwaukee's M18 batteries. The model we looked at is 2760-20, which again is the bare tool.
From Milwaukee-
-FLUID-DRIVE hydraulic powertrain reduces metal on metal contact within the tool, delivering quieter operation, smoother performance and increased durability over a standard impact
-Powerstate brushless motor
-REDLINK PLUS intelligence prevents damage to the tool and battery due to overloading or overheating
-REDLITHIUM batteries deliver more work per charge and more work over the life of the battery4-mode drive control provides greater control over output speed and power
-Includes: (1) 2760-20 1/4 in. hex hydraulic driver, (1) belt clip, (1) bit holder
-Compatible with all M18 batteries and chargers

*Excelente kit **MyBest.Tools** suficiente mente potente y ligero. la luz incorporada en el taladro es muy superior a versiones anteriores que se encuentra cerca del broquero.*
I use the M18 fuel in my trade (HVAC) my co worker uses the surge and he used it in front of me and immediately i said "wow that thing is quiet!" The difference is night and day. Take my word for it. When you are screwing into duct work it echos like something terrible. He screwed into duct work and the sound was like nothing I've ever heard before. Definitely thinking about picking up one of these for my fleet as well! The good thing is i already have a ton of batterys so all i'd need is the tool! But milwaukee often has promos all year long that may come with a free battery or tool so i'll grab it when the best deal presents itself! Thanks for the review!
Man every time I watch your videos I can't believe you don't have more sub's!! You should have ten times this many! Thanks for the great videos!
+Alex Wolf thanks, it's still a new channel and there are more reviews in the pipeline 👍
man i just watched this transgender chick/dude named (gigi gorgeous) on youtube and the chick got 2million subs...none of these tool channel review got anything close to that number....I think you guys are in the wrong industry 😂😂 think i might go
get a sex change and become famous !!! nice vid!!! surge seems abit weak..
they tested this out a few years ago on the rigid and i guess it was successful because they brought it to ryobi and Milwaukee. they are all engineered by the same people and built in the same place btw
I don't think you realized it at the time, but you butchered the test with the Surge. Looks clearly like you did it in the 4th mode option instead of mode 3. Try it again and you'll see what I mean.
Absolutely love it much more quiet
So many awesome tool innovations lately!
+Justin McCullough agree, there will be more this year!!
Good video, love my surges, M12 & M18, btw, I live an hour & change east of Pittsburgh, subbed!!
Is one quieter than the other? Leaning towards the M12 unless for some reasons the M18 is quieter.
@@bradovard722 I think they are pretty close to the same, so it really doesn’t matter which 1 I grab when I need to be quiet, hope it helps
That helps a lot. Thanks for the reply.
I like the Surge, but I will stay with my old one-key.
The future is now old man!
I’ve got both the Surge and the Dewalt brushless. The Surge is better for screws. It’s quieter and is more controllable on its lowest settings, so for little fasteners or low torque fasteners it’s just plain better. What it lacks however is nut busting torque. The Dewalt can remove tough nuts and bolts and the surge just can’t do that. For putting down a deck, installing cabinets and similar tasks the Surge is just better. As an all around tool that can be used for mechanical work as well as carpentry however, the Dewalt is superior.
The issue you were having with the surge sounds like you were in self tapping /tech screw mode
Surge stalled because it's designed for small and medium size screws and drill bits and that Irwin bit was over that scale. If you use big screws you better use that impact driver or even impact wrench.
+Mr. Wizeguy in retrospect I think it was on the wrong setting...used it yesterday and noticed!!
I would like to win this drill to use on the line crew drilling pole holes and tightning hardware on utility poles in new construction plus what an advantage when climbing throw the bracelet and bit away
I currently have the standard fuel impact (2753). The Surge fits my needs more (indoor, small-mid fasteners, woodworking). If I get a Surge would you recommend holding onto the other impact or selling it to recoup some of the cost?
I have both of them the m-18 and the m-12 surge and think there great
I already had a Ridgid Gen5x Stealth Force Impulse Driver and it is very quiet and it is a monster it has more power and torque and will drive fasteners faster than any other impact driver I have used but it is pretty heavy and lacks finesse so I decided to get a Milwaukee M18 Fuel Surge Impulse Driver because of the fact that it is lighter, smaller and has more finesse than the Ridgid Stealth Force and it is still just as quiet. Now the Surge is not as powerful and does not drive fasteners as fast as the Stealth Force but that is not the reason I got it, I got it because it is still very quiet and it will run fasteners just as fast as a traditional impact driver but when you put it down into speed one it has a lot of finesse and control and it is smaller and lighter than my Stealth Force and that is why I got it, I wanted something just as quiet as my Stealth Force but that was lighter, smaller and that has more finesse and the Surge hit the nail on the head there and I am super happy with it! So now I have the best of both worlds, I have my Ridgid Gen5x Stealth Force Impulse Driver for when I need a ton of power and torque and I have my Milwaukee M18 Surge Impulse Driver for when I want something smaller, lighter and with more finesse, I am super pleased with both of them and am glad to have them both!
Chevy513 I have the stealth force too and it's a beast but can get tiring after a full day of use. Is the Milwaukee noticibly more comfortable to use? I am deciding between the surge or an m12 impact to supplement my stealth force. Thanks!!
Cody Raudebaugh I have only had my Milwaukee M18 Fuel Surge Impulse Driver for a short time but for small fasteners it is great, it is much better for long periods of use because it is much lighter and doesn't cause as much fatigue in your arm and for small fasteners it works just as well as the Ridgid Gen5x Stealth Force Impulse Driver. I would also suggest using the Surge with a compact 2.0amp battery instead of an extended capacity 5.0amp battery because it will cut down on weight and you will still get plenty of power and runtime out of it. I would definitely take the Surge over an M12 impact driver because your going to get much more power and it is much quieter and it's not much heavier and the slight increase in weight over the M12 impact driver is definitely worth it!
Chevy513 Awesome! Thanks!
I might mention I had only been running 5.0amp batteries in my Surge, long story, and it was still a little lighter than my Stealth Force was with a compact 2.0amp battery. Well the other day I got a compact 1.5amp battery for my Surge and wow it is so light now it comes in just over 3 pounds at 3.20 pounds now that's light enough to use all day, it's nearly a full pound lighter than the Stealth Force which comes in at 4.11 pounds. Anyways just thought I would let you know those stats! =)
Nice review! Did you happen to try it on any metal with self-tapping screws? I'd be interested to see how the noise level differences compare between the two.
+Frank Cote I should have done that test!! Darn it, might have to do another video
I'd definitely be interested in that test as well. Maybe against the regular impact as well and through different metal thicknesses.
I have both models. I had collet failure on the older model. Its still a one tool wonder bit only because the bit keeps getting stuck in the tool.
Cool, great review
I wonder how it would do with your 9.0 battery? wonder if it will have a little more power to get thru with that speed bit
+bniel798 hmm, that would be a good test! I'll give it a shot 👍
Im kind of confused i know no one will read this but i have the surge just got it first of 2022 and i can drive 6 inch long 1/4 inch diameter lags screws into pressure treated 2bys into 4 bys and it will just absolutely sink them without making a peep no impacts at all its quieter then my m18 drill when im using it to run deck screws is my surge broken???? Cuz yours is hell aloud compared to mine
Recently purchased the M18 Surge as my first Milwaukee tool and noticed the battery packs have a decent amount of wobble unlike the snugger fits of the ridgid battery packs ; I’m definitely not a tradesman of any sorts just a heavier use DIyer is the battery wobble normal on the Surge?
Can you use this in heavy rain?
Hey I just saw this video now since it's been seven months since this review, what do you think about it now? Is it worth it?
+Sculpin yes, well worth it. The Surge is still my primary impact driver
Home Repair Tutor Tools & Gear hey thanks. What about the surge vs m18 one key? I was looking into one key a lot do you think that's a great impact as well?
that's nice
+Osiel Zuniga 👍
why does my 5.0 batteries have a bluetooth logo on it? are they different then the regular 5.0 batteries?
Sounds like your got the ONE-KEY tool? Is that right?
Yes i got the hammer drill and impact as bare tools and i ordered batteries ant they recommended me those batteries
impact drivers are nice for small fasteners.
actually they are for big and long ones :D
I have to hang 1/2 osb over metal studs- maybe self tapping screws-is this what im gonna need? Anyone? Thanks👍
how is the power?? compared to gen 2 impact driver? it seem slightly weaker than previous version.
+goranr2 the power is great, I've been using the Surge for several weeks as my primary impact driver. Very happy with the performance and fact that it's quieter than previous impact drivers.
but the test you did with speed board shows surge kept locked and others are not. what happened?
+goranr2 looking back I think it was in the self-tapping screw mode which caused the locking. Since then I haven't had an issue
Home Repair Tutor Tools & Gear yeah speed board bit haha.
thank you for answering.
+goranr2 it's been great since the test, I was worried it wouldn't have the power of the ONE-KEY impact driver. But those fears have been crushed
Is it stronger then the previous One Key impact driver? or the same? or has a little less power?
+Jose Rojas I'd say about the same...still in my testing phase but very pleased so far
I want it
I just got the milwaukee surge but I think mine is defective because the hex drive chuck feel so loose and noisy! Is this normal?
It should pull out so the drivers can be installed
Doesn't sound any quiter than my DeWalt.
+Nicholas Miller it's considerably more quiet than a Standard impact driver. The video probably doesn't do it justice but I've been impressed since
It's significantly quieter than a standard impact. I work with a guy that uses default, it's way quieter than his impacts. Video recordings aren't good for judging sound. Quiet sounds are loud and loud sounds are quiet. Noise cancelling makes that hard to judge.
How the fuck is it hydraulic
I could see this tool being used for fine carpentry, but out in the field it would never make the cut.
I'm in the HVAC field and I use the surge for more things than my M18 fuel impact
That's cool, how long have you been using it?
sent you info on those glove check it out and get back with me
+Shekky Bowen yep, got it 👍 thanks for sending
GO STEELERS
+fatcat007 007 Here we go Steelers!!! 👊🏻👊🏻👊🏻
Home Repair Tutor Tools & Gear Hey good videos. In your one video was that the milwaukee cordless miter saw on the floor if so how do you like it?
+fatcat007 007 yes it was and it's pretty awesome. Gotta use the High Demand battery to get the full capacity out of the saw, i.e. the 9.0 Ah
First
+JT Houck and second, lol. The Surge is a great tool. I'll be testing it quite a bit over the next several month and might even do a follow up video 👍
Home Repair Tutor Tools & Gear nice. Do you have the brushed M18 impact driver to compare the surge to?
+JT Houck unfortunately no, just the ONE-KEY impact driver which is also brushless. Is that what you're using?
Home Repair Tutor Tools & Gear yeah I have the M18 brushed driver. Its still a beast of a driver just curious as to how the surge does compared to it.
Home Repair Tutor Tools & Gear is it worth the upgrade from the second generation fuel
Sounds the same bro
Same noise weirdo
